Found the perfect wool dress and can't work out what to wear on my legs!

Hello. I've just bought a lovely wool dress - loose fitting with pockets, just above the knee. It's navy blue but I can't work out what to wear on my legs. Black looks wrong but also don't really want to look quirky at almost fifty! I will be wearing it for work. Thanks!

Navy leggings? I've got a pair that I wear with a similar-sounding dress in the colder months

WalkingOnSonshine · 06/11/2021 16:56

I think black looks more stylish with navy blue.

I always think coloured tights either look quite old fashioned or like someone’s trying too hard to dress “alternatively”.

Sheer black dot tights. A little bit less heavy than opaque and the dot makes them more modern.

Don’t put anything in those pockets! Wool pockets will quickly bag and look awful. I would sew them up to remove temptation!!!!

CiderWithLizzie · 06/11/2021 17:00

Navy opaque tights and navy blue boots.

PlinkPlankPlunk · 06/11/2021 17:01

I would wear charcoal grey, or grey marl thick tights. It partly depends on what footwear; I also have navy ribbed tights I would wear if wearing knee boots (ie they are mostly covered up)

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/11/2021 17:01

Can we have a picture of your lovely dress please.

I need a wool dress and some inspiration would be good @Europilgrim

Totally agree with this btw - way to change the shape of the dress!
misslomi · 06/11/2021 17:02

I would wear grey wool tights and tan boots or shoes.

OK - I'll try not to ! I have tried navy and black and it just looks really unflattering. Like I have really thick legs. Maybe that's because I actually have thick legs. Grin

Navy tights and brown boots.

Pucarbuile · 06/11/2021 17:10

Grey tights are lovely with navy dresses, not quite as stark as black if you're hesitant about it. Although I love black and navy together.

Timetable99 · 06/11/2021 17:11

Love grey tights, I think brown also might work.

TheHuntingoftheSnark · 06/11/2021 17:11

Green or purple tights

Aposterhasnoname · 06/11/2021 17:11

We need a link to this dress, sounds lovely

No link I'm afraid as I bought in a little local wool shop where they sell wool and woollen goods. I'd take a picture but it really doesn't look much on the hanger. Once I get the right tights I might take a picture!

Having tried blue tights with a blue dress, I have to say DON'T DO IT.

I looked like an off duty Nun.

impressivelycunty · 06/11/2021 17:18

Falke grey cotton tights

ghislaine · 06/11/2021 17:24

Cream tights? Or light grey marl, perhaps with interwoven sparkles? I would wear grey or navy myself but perhaps you’d prefer something less dark.

devildeepbluesea · 06/11/2021 17:25

I'd go charcoal wool tights.

AnyFucker · 06/11/2021 17:26

Grey or burgundy tights for me

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/11/2021 17:26

I bought what I thought were lovely mustard coloured tights, looked like baby poo all over my legs when I wore them.

Wimpeyspread · 06/11/2021 17:26

I’d be going for red tights

TuftyRusty · 06/11/2021 17:29

Charcoal thick tights and cherry red DMs or similar dark red/burgundy boots.

I wear dark dresses a lot. Nude or tan with a pair of boots. Lightens the whole thing up.
