High waist & dreaded 'gunt'

Sorry to be crude but how do women with a slight tummy avoid enhancing it with high waisted jeans or trousers?! I have a lovely shirt that looks much dressier tucked in jeans but the nice ones all seem to be high waisted. I am not massively overweight (a tall quite slim size 12) but being the wrong size of 40 and two kids doesn't do anything for your lower belly! It feels like pregnancy again with either over bump or under bump style trousers! I have only tried more fitted style high waisted jeans with loose tops. maybe I need to go the full hog and get the thick denim type so it doesn't cling? I just feel massive! Any advise on nice jeans for tucking shirt in for nice meal/casual with friends type thing.

A bit wrong not a it

NiceGerbil · 03/11/2021 03:21

Does it just mean having a tummy?

The pic is a nasty piss take of a woman who is vv overweight, OP etc with 'gunts' that's your size?

Or is it just tum being talked about?

In general dress to fit your shape, things that you think look good. Rather than trying to make yourself fit whatever is in fashion. If something doesn't suit you, don't wear it.. Easy!

SarahBellam · 03/11/2021 03:47

@LaBellaTrix

I've never heard the word gunt before. Can you have camel toe and a gunt at the same time?
This is the kind of content I am here for.
NiceGerbil · 03/11/2021 04:00

If you are an apple do you have a gunt your whole life?

MalagaNights · 03/11/2021 07:03

I think women with 'tummies' can still do high waisted/ tucked in look.

I think you need good quality thick denim e.g. Levi's, and make sure you are wearing a size small enough to hold you in. The jeans then actually provide the structure.

They look good on women with small waists and bigger arses.
I have neither but still wear them, as I love the look.

Also wear them really long so you get a really long look leg from waist to floor. With really chunky platforms.

Then no-one notices your grunt they just see: stylish women.

The Oblex image made me laugh out loud Grin

RampantIvy · 03/11/2021 07:15

I have learned a new word today.
Isn't it just what most people refer to as a pot belly or spare tyre?

DietrichandDiMaggio · 03/11/2021 07:45

@mummabear20202022

I've used gunt for years. Really didn't realise people didn't know of it, however I am Scottish so swearing is much less frowned upon and slang is widely accepted Grin also can't believe how precious people are being haha!

Op, wear that gunt with pride Gin

It's fine if you want to use cunt for your vagina, but unless you have a very unusual anatomy it is nowhere near your gut, so gunt makes no sense whatsoever.
brokenbiscuitsx · 03/11/2021 07:48

Get jeans with a thick denim OP if you’re going high waisted. Anything with Lycra or stretch is just accentuates any bumps for me. It’s almost magic, no jeans, hardly a bump, high waisted jeans, it just poofs right out like I’m 6 months pregnant! Not sure if it’s due to the high waist squeezing me in but I’ve found that a thick almost hard cotton denim keeps me in and makes me look like I’ve a flat tummy.

Mid rise are also good. Jeans that come just up to the belly button no matter how stretch tends to hold me in better.

Came on here just to say

PLEASE don't use that fucking misogynist term!! Dear god, as if we needed yet another part of our normal, natural bodies to feel disgust over, or a really repugnant term for it? Sad Please please don't use that word, it's loathsome. Far nastier than a bit of a bulge in clothes that were clearly not designed for many female bodies...

GlomOfNit · 03/11/2021 08:03

@NiceGerbil

Gunt?

Not heard that before!

I'll add it to cankles, camel toe, muffin top, double tit etc etc in my vocab.

Going to look at pics now as still not sure what is!

All words for parts of our normal bodies in clothes that weren't designed for our normal bodies or draw attention to certain parts of them... These clothes are designed by people who have absolutely ZERO interest in them fitting real women who have lived real lives in their bodies and we're meant to be slavishly grateful that they've 'rediscovered' yet another unflattering jeans shape for us to cram ourselves into and find ourselves wanting?? Sad OP, you said you were 'the wrong side of 40' and have had 2 kids. How very dare you be that! Sad

I really despair at the levels of women-despising women on this thread.

(NiceGerbil that wasn't directed at you btw, I just thought your post about the other words for body parts we're not meant to have was pertinent.)

Atalune · 03/11/2021 08:07

Monki denim is good and holds ones shape in. I recommend!

I also agree if it bothers you then shape wear is good but that can lead to bad wind later in the day!

MamDancer · 03/11/2021 09:07

@ClaudiusTheGod

Gunt is when your stomach and your vagina optically become like one

It’s depressing how many women think that their vulva is actually called their vagina.

It certainly is.

This ! I am in no way easily offended or Pearl clutching or whatever else is being said but I hate this term! Also hate cunt though so I suppose it’s expected. Fair enough if you really want to call one of your body parts that it’s up to you but I really wouldn’t want it being popularised or a term that is ok to use as an insult etc as it’s vile! I mean I have one after 2 c sections but find that word just unnecessarily offensive !

Hip dips and gunts this week on MN - what will we find to hate about ourselves next week I wonder?

My 80 year old auntie (who is absolutely hilarious and is, in this case, speaking in AAVE) calls it a "booby-do" because "it's when your belly stick out further than your booby do"

Courtier · 03/11/2021 10:35

I wear H&Ms high waisted slim mom jeans for this reason. They don't cling to it as much

😂😂 this made me giggle
hugocat · 03/11/2021 10:37

@Boood

I don’t know if there’s a difference between a gunt and a spare tyre, but my spare tyre looks better in high waisted jeans, because they squash it in neatly. Whereas mid-rise jeans cut off right at the point that allows the tyre to turn into a muffin top.
Same here Grin

I've seen a few plus-size influencers wearing the high-waisted, tucked in look with pride, and looking cool and stylish.

I like high waist jeans and have had to adjust to the "unflattering" aspect of having a bit of an enhanced tummy. I agree with pp, thick proper denim looks best.
