High waist & dreaded 'gunt'

Sorry to be crude but how do women with a slight tummy avoid enhancing it with high waisted jeans or trousers?! I have a lovely shirt that looks much dressier tucked in jeans but the nice ones all seem to be high waisted. I am not massively overweight (a tall quite slim size 12) but being the wrong size of 40 and two kids doesn't do anything for your lower belly! It feels like pregnancy again with either over bump or under bump style trousers! I have only tried more fitted style high waisted jeans with loose tops. maybe I need to go the full hog and get the thick denim type so it doesn't cling? I just feel massive! Any advise on nice jeans for tucking shirt in for nice meal/casual with friends type thing.

@Blendabrethin

I wouldn't bother trying to hide it tbh. It's totally normal for anyone who has had a vhild/is over 30 to have a sticky out belly. It is a normal human shape.
This, a million times.
RacketeerRalph · 02/11/2021 16:12

Yes, I think some high waisted trousers will give all but the most taught of stomachs a gunt look, but others won't.

JorisBonson · 02/11/2021 16:13

I always put a shapewear camisole on under my top, helps flatter everything under high waisted jeans!

hilbil21 · 02/11/2021 16:13

Gunt is a fab word!! Lol. I've had a tummy tuck and I STILL have this problem with high waisted, because there's too much material Grin can't win

EdgeOfTheSky · 02/11/2021 16:16

Those Mango wide legged jeans are fab.

rainydogday · 02/11/2021 16:20

The mango jeans are nice, wish they did different lengths! I wonder if the thicker or stiffer the material the less your bulge will show? Mid waist jeans are so much better as they seem to cut it in half Blush

I'm a size 6 to 8 and absolutely hate the shape of my 'upper pubic area' in high waisted jeans and only wear them when I'm wearing a baggier or 'non tucked in' top. I blame my 2 c sections, I'm sure they stitched me up wrong deliberately to give me a gunt.

Helloise · 02/11/2021 16:23

I see a lot of younger plus-size women just going for it- high waisted bottoms, tucked in tops, even crop tops. It's just a body shape, you may think you're "hiding" it with loose, oversized clothes, but you're really not. Someone who confidently accepts their body shape and wears cute clothes and styles will always be more visually attractive to me* than someone who is clearly trying to "disguise" something. No, that doesn't mean that only tight or fitted clothes or tucked in clothes can be cute and stylish - I personally, for example, probably wouldn't go for the look you're describing tend as I tend to go for loose, sculptural, kind of arty Japanese-influenced styles (think COS) but it's not because I'm trying to hide my body - I'm just trying to look cool and interesting and be comfortable. Some of my favourite clothes probably (definitely) make me look "bigger" than I am and wouldn't be considered flattering by some people and I don't care a jot, I am allowed to take up as much space as I like and look how I like and so are you.

*I could give a rat's ass about the male gaze but I am a gay woman and I am speaking about what is attractive to me.

This is so true. Maybe I just need to embrace the gunt! It just feels alien and has crept up on me! My DH thinks it's funny what I call my tummy. He would never judge me for what I look like. I like to look nice for myself

Due to the angle of viewing I am certain that tummies always look bigger than they really are in real life especially in high waited trousers.

Boood · 02/11/2021 20:24

I don’t know if there’s a difference between a gunt and a spare tyre, but my spare tyre looks better in high waisted jeans, because they squash it in neatly. Whereas mid-rise jeans cut off right at the point that allows the tyre to turn into a muffin top.

@Frauhubert

It took a good few minutes for the offended and disgusted to find this thread! The moaning and complaining makes my gunt turn

RubyRedSlippers1 · 02/11/2021 21:30

I have the same problem! I sometimes try to embrace it and not care. Other days I swear I will wear nothing but dresses for the rest of my days!

CinnamonJellyBeans · 02/11/2021 21:31

What a vile way to describe yourself and other women.

ClaudiusTheGod · 02/11/2021 21:33

Gunt is when your stomach and your vagina optically become like one

It’s depressing how many women think that their vulva is actually called their vagina.

TheCategoryIs · 02/11/2021 22:03

I’m not a fan of high waist trousers, they can give a sort of nappy look at the back too. I don’t wear them but do agree if you like them you should. But for the OP it’s not compulsory if you don’t like the way they look.

Shuffleuplove · 02/11/2021 22:08

A question for many of the posters on this thread:

Do you iron your knickers?

A question for many of the posters on this thread:

Do you iron your knickers?

Why would anyone do that?
peachgreen · 02/11/2021 22:17

@Helloise Please can you follow me around all day saying these kinds of sensible, life-affirming things? What a wonderful post.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 02/11/2021 22:18

The word 'gunt' is simultaneously the most horrible and fabulous word all at once!

DerbyshireMama · 02/11/2021 22:19

It is a grin phrase. 99% of women have a pouch of fat over our upper pubic areas. It's to protect our uteruses - you know, that part of the body which creates and brings LIFE into the world. Why the fuck should we be embarrassed of how that naturally looks. Not like men can do it.

Blondiney · 02/11/2021 22:20

@Goawaymorningsickeness

How disgusting. How can we expect men to be respectful of our bodies if we refer to them like this.
We can refer to our OWN bodies however the hell we choose. Christ!
5128gap · 02/11/2021 22:24

Most people have it a bit and it looks fine imo. Its minimised with strong denim in the affected area (can push fat above the waistband, but easier to hide with slightly looser shirt tuck); very broad waistband that at its lowest cuts across the middle of the offending area, thus adding an extra layer of support; or alternatively high waist flowing over area into wide leg style. Soft denim required for this.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/11/2021 22:34

I wear a lot of high waisted jeans, always with something tucked in or sitting on the waistband. I think you need denim with a high cotton content/not much stretch so it doesn’t “cling to the area”. I’m average size (UK 10, 5ft 6, so not slim-slim) and think it looks good - although obviously others may disagree!

My favourite jeans are the Levi’s high loose taper cut if that’s any help.

LondonTan · 02/11/2021 22:43

@rainydogday, I have this too (my lovely overhang following 2 c sections is very gunty), despite being a size 8-10. I've found that stronger, thicker fabrics work well to hide it the best... Stretchy things just accentuate it. I now look at the elastane content of all of my prospective jeans... The lower the better. Stiff, old fashioned proper denim is the way to go!

@Allgreyeverything - I love those Mango jeans! I'm on the lookout for some nice wide leg ones (my current ones are too stretchy). What is the sizing like? Are they nice and stiff?!
