Posh London lunch

Help! I'm going to lunch at a nice London restaurant next month and I really need help finding a pretty dress and (ankle?) boots

I'm currently a size 13 but today is day 1 of my diet and I will try to stick to it. 5.4" so I get drowned if dresses are too long.

I really want to look elegant and together, budget about £150. Can anyone help, I'm open to anything. Never had my colours done but look okay in most except bright red.

Thank you.

I love the mint velvet outfit that remus linked. I would wear the leather skirt with a black or white simple jumper rather than silk shirt to dress it down a bit.

IslaPineappple · 22/10/2021 11:14

I like the leather skirt too but it's too pricey. I've been looking for other but can only find fake ones so far.

I've actually got nice legs so I don't mind showing them off!

I'm currently eyeing up this skirt from Sezane. Would wear with over the knee suede boots. That's this kind of thing is go for. Love how it's styled on the website

Picture would be helpful!

There's a leather mini skirt in the Hush sale

Vohgue · 22/10/2021 13:20

Also a number of nice mini skirts in & Other Stories

Verite1 · 22/10/2021 13:32

I have this skirt and it is currently on sale in size 12. You can wear in summer with T-shirt and trainers/sandals or winter with v fine slim knit and black tights and boots. I think it’s one of those items that is great for any occasion.

I’ve got a faux leather pencil skirt from Next and it’s surprisingly nice. I really want a real one from Whistles though, as the zip has broken on the fake one.

Skirt with a neat jumper would be lovely.

IslaPineappple · 22/10/2021 18:37

How about this one? www.hush-uk.com/leather-mini-skirt-black/SKT129-001.html

It's in my bag

I've ordered it. Think it might be too short. But it's a start.

Has anyone got a friend referral code for Hush, it's not gone through yet so worth a try. Thanks

This is under your budget but I have it and it can be dressed up with jewellery and smart jacket

IslaPineappple · 22/10/2021 19:32

That's a nice dress but I've bought the hush mini skirt, so I'm in search of a suitable top now, thank you.

How about this to go with the skirt?

That's a lovely skirt and I think exactly right for the event you're describing. With opaques and ankle boots/brogues/flats it will look lovely. (Also, a great purchase: I wear my leather mini all the time - if I'm ever in doubt that's what I put on. It's a good mix of casual while also looking like you've made an effort.)

I'd wear with a classic cashmere or lambswool jumper in navy/grey/camel/black; a cotton/linen t-shirt (long-sleeved given the season? Probably in white. John Lewis And/Or is good for this kind of thing); a silk shirt (& Other Stories usually have quite a lot to choose from). Or even a smart sweatshirt or cropped cardigan. Plus gold chain(s)/earrings, nice bag... Cos & Arket good for 'nice' tops that look cool.

I live in London and work in fashion (and I'm the same age as you) and that's the kind of thing I'd wear to a nice lunch.

Hope you have a lovely time!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2021 21:51

Love the skirt.

Vohgue · 23/10/2021 04:22

Yes that's the one Isla!
What sort of neckline would you like on the top - and do you like the idea of a fine knit as others suggested? Or a slouchy cropped cardi? Someone on the other threads has a lovely animal print one, also from Hush but I think it's expensive.

IslaPineappple · 23/10/2021 08:03

Hope it fits now!

I'm thinking maybe a fine knit or a shirt, but as it'll be December and cold maybe a jumper would be better. Nothing too cropped.

I'm trying really hard with my diet so think fine knit will show off my results better if that makes sense?

I'm off on a boot hunt today. Thanks very much everyone for all your help.

Boden can be pretty decent for fine knit cotton jumpers.

IslaPineappple · 23/10/2021 08:18

(I'm not very big boobed and most necklines look okay)

IslaPineappple · 23/10/2021 08:24

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie thanks I'll have a look. They had a lovely leather skirt in their sale but it was sold out.

IslaPineappple · 27/10/2021 18:52

The Hush skirt arrived and it's lovely, really buttery soft and a great fit.

I'm going to find a fine knit top. I've also bought some Chelsea boots and am getting excited about lunch now.

Thank you all

Size 13? Not in the UK.

Laquila · 28/10/2021 12:36

I'm intrigued to see what outfit you end up with, OP! Some great suggestions on this thread.

(@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I do know what you mean about the slightly distasteful search to look expensive...hard to articulate but yes)

IslaPineappple · 28/10/2021 12:39

@LoisLane66

Size 13? Not in the UK.
I meant in between sizes Wink i have seen some jeans in a 13 though. Must be a new thing.

My diet is going well and the 12 hush skirt fitted perfectly.
