Could you find me this Ganni dress?

To buy it rent in the UK. Size 12ish.

I know I’ll look like Bigbird and it will make me look like a tent but it’s such a long time since I’ve properly fallen in love with an outfit. I know I have no taste.

It’s a faux feather army green maxi apparently.

I’d be ever so grateful.

Yes definitely show it off. Isn't Hurr a peer to peer platform? Maybe the owner can be persuaded to sell it to you if you absolutely love it when you rent it?

SummerWhy · 16/10/2021 11:06

I love the dress! It reminds me of someone I follow on insta called Franki.dammone. If you like this you might like her style.

I bet a the 10 would be fine. Ganni definitely comes up large, in my experience. I bought one of their blouses second hand recently and it fits as a size bigger, I’m having to try and sell it on Sad

Ruggish · 16/10/2021 13:38

Yes, Hurr is peer-to-peer so I could ask. It was pretty expensive full-price though and barely doable when it went in the Outnet sale, but worth thinking about. You do wonder if some of the sellers were gifted the items for Instagram anyway though.

I’ll see if I can get it for the week I want, if I do I’ll show it off.

I’ll also have a look at Frank Danone too, although I’m not a massive fan of the Gram, it makes me feel quite anxious.

Flannels have the silver shiny one in their outlet reduced. Only a size 36 though.

Kenworthington · 19/10/2021 19:56

@Ruggish ok so the silver one arrived. I’m massively disappointed. It’s HUGE but in a doesn’t fit way rather than being just oversized. . The fabric is really stiff too and the general effect is of a turkey in foil about to go in the oven. It’s going back. In possibly two sizes down it may be ok.

Ruggish · 20/10/2021 05:17

Oh no! Although the turkey in foul analogy made me laugh. Thanks is for letting me know. Sounds like I will need to try the silver one on for size before I rent the green one.

@botemp @Kenworthington

Standing next to a massive plant to emphasise how much I looked like a Christmas tree. I wore a biker jacket and clogs and had a lovely time.

I really want to own this dress. It’s such fun, hides a multitude of sins, and has pockets.

Renting was expensive but the owner seems lovely and the process smooth.

Could you find me this Ganni dress?

You look amazing!

ronniz · 04/12/2021 11:13

I love it op!

SnoopsCaliforniaRoll · 04/12/2021 11:27

That dress looks beautiful against your skin tone, how lovely.

WeeTattieBogle · 04/12/2021 11:29

@TimetohittheroadJack

Anyone who finds a link to that monstrosity is not doing the OP a favour.

It's a combo of bad curtains and a terribly coloured fluffy blanket.

If you can't find it, you could go to B&M and make your own...

You should take heed from your username.
WeeTattieBogle · 04/12/2021 11:38

Op, you looked confident and rather fetching 👍

I’m happy you found your dress.

BringMeTea · 04/12/2021 11:46

You looked FAB!

botemp · 04/12/2021 11:49

Ruggish you look fantastic, glad it all worked out and sorry you're now hopelessly in love with it. Set up some alerts with wide parameters, one sold recently on Vestiaire, they listed it as gold and the Galerie Lafayette one in a size 34 I linked way back upthread still appears to be available.

BusySittingDown · 04/12/2021 11:49

I actually quite like it. Although it's less Big Bird and more Oscar the Grouch due to the colour.

BusySittingDown · 04/12/2021 11:51

Oops sorry, I didn't see the second page! It's a completely different colour to what I thought. I really like it!

timeisnotaline · 04/12/2021 11:51

It looks great, I’m so glad you found it, even if not to buy (yet!)

picklemewalnuts · 04/12/2021 11:53

It's gorgeous on you! So glad you found it.

Must say, removing your face from the image doesn't enormously help with privacy! That's a very distinctive outfit you are wearing! Grin

Ruggish · 04/12/2021 13:25

Thanks all. Oh well, I think anyone at the bash that knows me knows I MN. I don’t think I use this username much. Although obviously I’ll now remember I used it to tell you all about the great Vimto snorting of 1985. Quite a lot of people may recognise the plant though.
It is more Oscar than Big Bird, you’re so right. That is even better as I am quite cross and I love the Muppets. Who wouldn’t want to be a Muppet?
The dress has massive pockets. If it was my own dress I’d keep snacks in there but I didn’t feel I could leave biscuit crumbs in a hired dress.
I will put out some searches. Gutted I missed out on the Vestiare one. An 8 wouldn’t fit me, this was a 10 and it was only just okay.
Thanks all for your help, even and especially if it’s not your thing.

botemp · 04/12/2021 13:31

It's on sale on Vestiaire again here, they confuse me with the sizing but I guess 6-8 is American sizing, 40 is a 12 at Ganni, I think. Only downside is it's in Australia so import fees will be a lot. Any chance you know someone in Australia?

Ruggish · 04/12/2021 13:53

I’m looking at it now Botemp. And yes I know people in Oz. Would it be cheaper to send to them and have them post onto me?

It’s all moot anyway as there is no way I can afford it. DH said he’d buy one for me for Christmas even if it went as high as £50. Grin.
Shame as it’s the right size. I hired a 38 and the one for sale is a 40 so would be perfect. I guess I need a second hand one.

OP posts:
botemp · 04/12/2021 13:59

Yes, if someone from Oz sends it to you and marks it as a gift and puts down a lower value you'll likely be free of vat/import fees (IME anything under £135 from a private sender is waived through as they just don't have the manpower to process it all). If sending it from Vestiaire you'll end up with another 30-50% on top of the asking price. Shipping might be more costly as a private individual though, best case scenario someone you know is willing to bring it in their suitcase when they're coming to the UK.

You can always haggle on Vestiaire Wink

Ruggish · 04/12/2021 14:09

Interesting, thanks Botemp. Good to know that it’s okay to haggle, although a lot of people have it on their wish list. I’ll think it over.

OP posts:
botemp · 04/12/2021 14:19

Yes, you can put in an offer so long as they haven't disabled the option (and this seller hasn't), I think it's maxed at 40% below asking price. Sometimes when you favourite it they'll send you an offer. It looks like a relisting, they bought it and then for whatever reason don't want to keep it, they can then relist it for free (so no commission to VC) to get most of their money back. I can't remember if it's time limited but people who relist are usually more eager to sell and recoup their outlay. By VC standards it's not a whole lot of people who have favourited it, probably down to location and high asking price.

Ruggish · 04/12/2021 14:57

Gosh, you do know your Vestiaire Bo. I don’t think I know that much about my day job. Probably why I can’t spend £300 on a frock.

I’ll check my piggy bank and see how much I can spend and get in touch with the Oz relatives.

Thanks for enabling.
