I'm conscious that their main target audience are more around the 30s mark, but I had my eye on this dress for a while and recently got it in the sale. I'm waiting for it to be delivered, but was just thinking that they have a reputation for looking a bit "mumsy"(I'm sans children for now lol!) What do you think?

'Older lady' @ambereeree? Strange phrasing.

It looks great @wintercandyland, very preppy, I'd keep any accessorising simple.

Mumsy....I'm cleary aged in my 30s OP.

Your ageist comments aside, I wouldn't be seen dead in that at any age.

That candy stripe wouldn't work on anyone other children

Easy @AliceinBorderland, I'm a good decade older than you and all this nonsense causes divisions.

Desist.

GemmaRuby · 16/10/2021 21:26

Could you explain what you mean by mumsy please OP?

I’m not sure I could identify whether someone had children or not based on that dress alone - so not sure if it’s mumsy or not!

I’ve become a mum recently, should I make sure that I wear mumsy clothes now? If you could point some out to me that would be great as I’m not sure what I’m looking for. Or have the clothes I owned before now become mumsy? It’s a minefield!

Any help most appreciated.

GemmaRuby I unfortunately have no advice, hence me asking for advice on my own dress, I just read a quote from the founder saying that the clothes were targeted towards women with children. Do with that what you will I guess! Smile

AliceinBorderland Ooh no not to come across as ageist at all, I just read that their prime target audience was the 35 year old women with children, of which I am neither at the moment Wink Source here: newtonprint.co.uk/boden-ugly-building-nice-clothes/

Also, I have to disagree, I LOVE the candy stripe! Grin

My 24 year old dd wouldn't wear it but neither would I at 53.

Why would you care what age range a shop is directed at? You like something you buy it.

Many days later, just seen your photo. You look beautiful in it.

Are you Dynaeris Tygarean?

Ignore the negative (jealous) comments and enjoy your dress.

It’s gorgeous and would great at any age!

@wintercandyland, you look wonderful in the dress!

No matter a brand's target market, most make a range of items to appeal to as many shoppers as possible.

I worked for seven years in the wedding gown industry and we carried a line called Reem Acra. Reem's gowns were gorgeous and known particularly for their delicate and elaborate beading and embroidery on voluminous satin ball gowns. They were all stunning, but funnily enough, my favorite one was a slim silk crepe gown with sleeves and a deep v-neck with just a beaded/embroidered medallion at the waist. Very 1930s. No one would have looked at it and guessed Reem Acra, but there it was. So, there may be items from brands that aren't typically "your look" or "your age target" can still make something just right for you.

I think that both the color and cut are on the more youthful side and are very appropriate for summer. Will look great with neutral flats or sandals! I'd keep jewelry delicate/minimal.

Isn't it fun to find a dress you love on sale! You look great!

It's lovely on you.
