Which Olpalex?

Hereslookingatyoukid · 06/10/2021 21:56

I wonder if people might be able to advise me on which number Olpalex might be best for me to try? I have quite thick, naturally wavy and quite coarse hair that has a tendency to frizz and look quite dry. I've heard really good things about Olpalex so decided it could be worth a try but then got thoroughly confused by all the different numbers. With hair like mine, could anyone suggest which one might be best? Thanks!

I think 3 is the classic entry point, being the bond builder. I recently bought a trial sized pack of 0 and 3 and have to say I was stunned by the effect, my hair felt and looked so much better. There's also a trial set with four minis in but I was particularly interested in 3.

The leave-in cream. I think it's four. I'm a hairdresser and have tried all of them including Olaplex 1. Four is the one which makes the most long term difference. The shampoo and conditioner are shit, don't bother. The oil is OK. 00 I didn't find much different to Olaplex 1 and 2. The moisture mask is good but not mind blowing.

Watching with interest as I have very similar hair to OP

So maybe three and four are the ones to go for? Thank you; here's hoping a hair transformation is coming my way! 😀

It’s a minefield isn’t it!! I decided to invest on the recommendation of my hairdresser & then was overwhelmed when I saw all the different options. I went for 6 & 7 which is the oil and the ‘bond smoother’. I mix a little bit of each together and put on my damp hair before drying. It’s made a big difference to my hair, I will definitely buy again once I’ve used them up. I got a freebie of the overnight mask too (I bought through LookFantastic, they may still be doing the same offer) which I’ve used & seemed good too.

4 is the shampoo.

Start with 3 and 6. 6 is the leave in conditioner. These are the staples. You can add others in later.

SmileySandwich · 07/10/2021 07:09

I'd go for 3 to start with or the trial set

3 is rubbish without 0. 0 first then 3 is amazing. the rest are just shampoo, conditioner, oil, leave in stuff etc. It's 0 and 3 that change the integrity of the hair and make the most difference.
SmileySandwich · 07/10/2021 07:44

Yeah I only said the trial set incase it was cheaper

Hereslookingatyoukid · 07/10/2021 09:32

Thanks for the responses. I must admit, I'm still a bit confused but 3 has come up a few times so 3 sounds like definitely one to try but maybe 0 as well - thanks for the suggestion of the trial kit. That sounds like a good plan!

Trial kit is a good plan. No 3 is underwhelming on its own.

WellTidy · 07/10/2021 12:28

I bought 0 and 3. I’ve used them together and I’ve also used 3 on it’s own. I found no difference using 0 in conjunction with the 3, compared to 3 on its own. 3 is amazing! My hair is very dry indeed and it was left incredibly soft and the dryness just wasn’t there anymore.

I would start off with just the 3 and see what you think.

SmileySandwich · 07/10/2021 12:30

Also make sure you read the instructions when you use 3, you use it before washing if I remember correctly

VladmirsPoutine · 07/10/2021 15:39

I think I might try this! I was under the impression it was mainly for people who'd dyed their hair.

It kind of is. It's added to bleach in the salon. 0 is the at-home version of the in-salon treatment.
PaleGreenGhost · 07/10/2021 17:54

Following as I've the same hair. My hairdresser recommended it due to the extreme coarseness... But I also forgot which number!

However I'm fairly sure she said it wasn't the bond repair one because my hair isn't damaged. It's just always been coarse and wild.

TheDuchessOfMN · 07/10/2021 18:40

I find it confusing too.
I tried 4 (the shampoo) and found it useless. I much prefer my usual L’Oréal.

I’m getting 3 in a beauty advent calendar. I think it’s a pre-shampoo treatment.

Hereslookingatyoukid · 07/10/2021 18:50

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to buy it? I've just been looking on Amazon but there's lots of reviewers suggesting it isn't the real thing. It doesn't need to be online although that always makes things a bit easier! Thanks!

I've got 3 and 6. 3 did make a bit of a difference to my dried out hair but not as much as I was hoping for. 6 seems to have had much more instant results and my hair is much softer and sleeker since I've been using it. It does look expensive for the tiny bottle but I use only about a pea size if that so should last a long while.

TheDuchessOfMN · 07/10/2021 18:58

I bought it online from SpaceNK when it was 20% off. Cult beauty regularly do 20% off too

Gwenhwyfar · 07/10/2021 19:03

I've got thin, damaged and coloured hair. What number would you suggest for me? I had some at the salon once and it made no difference.

Hereslookingatyoukid · 07/10/2021 19:08

@TheDuchessOfMN thank you; will have a look at both of those.

I've just looked at Cult beauty and they give 15% off your first order!

I got the trial set from Cult beauty with 15% off too. Look Fantastic often have offers on it.

MeredithGreyishblue · 08/10/2021 17:43

Olaplex made my hair fall out in clumps! I wouldn't go near it!
