Dr Martens question again - which colour, black or pink?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 06/10/2021 14:08

I have just been into Dr Martens store - went in thinking I wanted the fur lined boots but found the lace up uncomfortable, the Chelsea looked too much like wellies and the platform lace up to clunky at the front - but I found these buckle ones which I really like.

I tried the black in store (see pic) and now trying to decide whether to get them in black or pink (also see pics).

I like the idea of pink shoes, I am tall with long legs so not overly worried about the shortening effect of colourful footwear. I mostly wear jeans or black leggings. Most of my dresses are black or blue. My main coat is deep but not maroon red.

But black is clearly more sensible and practical. Any advice?

Buy all of them!

Black will go with anything but the pink are amazing and you will smile every time you look at your feet.

Sadly I can't afford both (or either actually, they are to be a generous birthday gift!) It is either or...

This really comes down to if you are the type of person that likes to pull off brights or statement pieces. Myself for example, I know that I don't venture much outside my 'pallete' so I'd definitely go for the black.

The pink could definitely be styled up with a lot of things, like jeans and t shirt, though it might result in you muting the rest of your look, is that something you would do naturally anyway?

The black are a goes with everything shoe, so if you want something to wear to death I'd go with that. If for a fashion statement, the pink.

Sorry if that's not helpful, perhaps flip a coin?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 06/10/2021 15:04

No that's very helpful. I think I will have to look at the rest of my wardrobe and decide. Mostly I wear dark blue and black, with a few colours here and there. So the pink shoes might shake things up a little. Hmm.

I was going to say black, but I have recently been rudely reminded that life is extremely short and we should grab our happiness whenever we can.

Buy the pink, and smile every time you wear theme

I am going to throw a spanner in the works now, but I prefer the look of the lace ups on you. They are notorious for having to break in though, so they aren't usually the most comfy from the get go.

But those pink ones are very nice.

Good luck OP. Tough choice.

And I know I have not been any help at all.....Blush

Anordinarymum · 06/10/2021 15:14

I have two pairs of Docs. Purple patent and the black one with daisies on. I would say to get the black as they will go with most things but the pink won't.
My next pair will be black Most definitely !

And yes you are right. The Pascal leather are supposed to be better but they are not. I have worn my new pair twice now for short walks and am currently wearing two plasters on my heels.
RestingPandaFace · 06/10/2021 15:19

Buy the bright ones. I still have a purple pair I bought in 6th form 25 years ago and they still make me smile every single time I wear them.

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 06/10/2021 15:22

If you love this style, go for the pink. The detail is lost on the black.

Candleabra · 06/10/2021 15:24

Go for what you love. Life is short.

Blossomtoes · 06/10/2021 15:28

Oh God, the pink are gorgeous. It would be no contest for me. Matching lipstick, job done.

BelleOfTheProvince · 06/10/2021 15:28

The other thing is that places like new look do good quality biker boots in black. I've had my vegan leather ones over two years now and are in pretty good nick(under all the mud)

So could buying the pink and then a £20 black boot for outfits that don't compliment the pink work. If you found a good discount code for the doc Martin's you might save that much or so?

riotlady · 06/10/2021 15:30

Pink!

thesearelaughterlines · 06/10/2021 15:31

Buy the black ! Run out of the shop in the pink ! They are lush 🤣

OldWivesTale · 06/10/2021 15:38

I love the pink. The black are the safe option but you don't really notice them. The pink are gorgeous!

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 06/10/2021 16:02

I have two pairs of boots, silver and black. I LOVE colour in my clothes but I rarely wear the silver. The black will be understated cool with any outfit but the pink runs the risk of clashing or looking a little too try hard/gimmicky unless bright colours (hair etc) is your whole look.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 06/10/2021 16:03

I’ve remembered my mums saying. Are you wearing the [shoes] or are the [shoes] wearing you?

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/10/2021 16:09

I have my eye on these - they come in a pale pinky lilac too. I like bright colours so I'd vote pink.

IShoveLula · 06/10/2021 16:16

The lace ups are great. The pink ones are hideous and the colour is vile. Get the chelsea boots or the lace ups or go to another shop

NerrSnerr · 06/10/2021 16:29

I'd go for the pink. I think they're really nice.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 06/10/2021 16:30

I agree that the lace ups do look good from the front, but when you walk the front is really massive and sort of looks even more massive and unwieldy somehow. They also look horrible from above ie. the view that I would have...

The thin soles ones looked much better but had a seam right across my high instep which would not have loosened so they are out sadly.

These photos may or may not show what bothered me about the lace up.

Also they have a zip - which is good for ease, but also would be the bit that would break eventually.

Toot many 'fronts' in that post. They look good in the mirror, viewing them from a front view. But the front part (toe) of the actual shoe is mahoosive and to me looks too much like a work boot.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 06/10/2021 16:35

I see what you mean - the shape of the toe/front is quite different on the lace ups

Onynx · 06/10/2021 16:37

Get the pink. Life is far far too short. I would love really purple ones but currently debating the floral ones. Also if you are a size 5 or smaller they do youth's sizing - and pricing is about half the price of regular boots!
