Waterproof or tubing mascara

Most normal mascaras smudge on me these days so recently bought:-

  • Glossier tubing mascara - doesn't give me the definition I need but nice, looks more 'natural' on me!
  • Dior Waterproof mascara - great, good definition - nice colour but smudged once last week!

Ideally I'd love a great waterproof or tubing mascara budget prices or pay more but give the definition that I prefer as I have fairly short lashes otherwise.

Anyone seen anything?

Waterproof mascara becomes crumbs on me. Tubing mascara doesn't
The Boots No 7 Stay Perfect tubing mascara is the one I use.

I have tried many waterproof mascaras incl Chanel and Lancome, and won't bother again.

The only downside to the tubing mascara is that you need to wash it off.

Standstheclockattentothree · 06/10/2021 10:55

Yes, No 7 here too. It's the best mascara I've ever used.

IShoveLula · 06/10/2021 11:00

I have a Maybelline one that's good - snapscara.
If you want a waterproof one - Great Lash waterproof mascara is pretty good.

I’ve recently been using DHC tubing mascara, recommended on here, and it just doesn’t budge! I live abroad and even when the sweat is dripping my tinted moisturiser into my eyes, this mascara doesn’t shift! I’m a real eye rubber too.

The only thing that’s slightly annoying is that it is genuinely hard to shift. If I wear it two or three days in a row I get quite a lot of build up on my lashes, which is uncomfortable and annoying. And yes I do use a soft cloth and warm water to try and wipe it off.

Thanks for this. Will stick with the tubing mascara.

Yes, I did have to wash the Glossier tubing mascara off which is a bind.

I was quite disappointed in the Dior mascara and even more so in a your lips but better lip pencil that barely shows up which I ordered because the mascara was being delivered - I mean it's nice - but not worth what I paid for it!

I might try both of these.

I used to buy the more expensive make up, but I don't think it's worth it. Boots No 7 and Rimmel are my go to brands now.

I liked Helena Rubenstein, Bourjois and Almay but they're not around any more

I have problems with mascara smudging.
I recently watched an interview with a top make up artist (sorry can't remember name) who said that the reason mascara smudges, is because of grease, not water. Wearing waterproof mascara all the time is bad for your lashes and doesn't alleviate the problem of smudging due to oil.

He recommended tubing mascaras.

see that's the thing - it's only been an issue for me in my 40's - is it an age thing that your skin gets more greasy with age? And my skin doesn't appear to be that much more greasy anyway!

Think will stick to tubing mascaras then.

But if what makeup artist says is it's due to grease then would powdering eyelids help before putting on mascara? Hmm

Another vote for No7 Stay Perfect. It makes my lashes look like they've had subtle lash extensions. Doesn't budge during the day but washes off easily with warm water. I've also got their Stay Perfect Ultra but I'm saving that for a night out, whenever that might be!

Recently bought the eyeko one (cocoa edit) and LOVE it- stays through a toddlers swimming lesson without a fleck out of place, and comes off with cleanser in the evening…

very interesting re the Eyeko one - I did have their sport one which I thought was ok but nothing to write home about. Reviews good on it.

Agree the no.7 one is good, and they do another of it - Stay Perfect Ultra - which gives a more dramatic effect. The Clinique tubing one, Lash Power, is great too.

I find having to wash them off easier as I don't need a separate cleanser and eye make up remover. I just use a wash-off cleanser that's safe for the eyes (Nivea do a good, dirt cheap one), and use it and a hot flannel to take everything off.

Bert2e · 06/10/2021 16:30

No7 Stay Perfect is probably the best mascara I've ever used! Love the fact that it comes off with warm water. Did look at the Ultra version the other day but decided to stick with what I know.

Figroll16 · 06/10/2021 18:02

Maybelline snapscara

Gonnagetgoing · 06/10/2021 20:42

I think it might be discontinued. LOreal do a tubing mascara but I can't remember the name.

It usually doesn't say 'tubing'on it bu it will say 'remove with warm water'.

Standstheclockattentothree · 10/10/2021 14:35

I've just picked up some snapscara on the back of this thread. It's pretty good - a bit less length than the No 7, but glossier.

MamaCasey2 · 10/10/2021 14:47

There a a newish L'Oréal one called air volume in a blue metallic tube which is tubing and very good. The no7 one didn't work well for me.

TheChosenTwo · 10/10/2021 14:52

I’ve been happy with the hourglass tubing one, think it’s called unlocked? I don’t wear mascara often but that doesn’t budge, flake, smudge or anything.
I have quite hooded eyelids so was finding other mascaras were reacting to my oily skin quickly.
The too face mascara melt off has also been brilliant, I received a sample as a GWP once and was really impressed at how it made mascara melt away and left no residue.

Scrunchcake · 10/10/2021 15:01

I'm a notorious panda when it comes to mascara. I've been buying Collection Lash Surge Waterproof lately. It's only a fiver, lengthens beautifully, and rarely smudges on me. Probably worth a shot for you at that price.

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 10/10/2021 17:47

Victoria Beckham mascara is my HG. Tubing, non smudge, good definition and comes off really easily. Totally recommend.

Gherkingreen · 10/10/2021 17:51

Clinique lash power, in onyx, every time. It goes on easily on both upper and lower lashes, doesn't clump, doesn't shift during the day, but easy to wash off with warm water. Perfect for contact lense wearers. I don't think I will ever use any other mascara Grin

CornishTiger · 10/10/2021 17:54

This is what I use.

www.limelifebyalcone.com/corporphan/product/AAHPMM?parentCategoryKey=makeup&subCategoryKey=eyes&category=Eyes

Recently got the waterproof one.

Can anyone recommend if any of the mascaras mentioned above will give me similar natural results with staying power. I’d rather my mascara was more easily available than limelife.

EerilyDisembodied · 10/10/2021 17:57

I find the tubing ones almost impossible to get off even with a flannel and hot water (I use a balm cleanser for my whole face and take it off with a wet flannel), but they do look more natural than waterproof. I always seem to end up picking bits of them off in the shower the next morning which is pretty yuck. It's really annoying that they never say they are tubing and you have to peer at the instructions to work it out.
