I would like a beautiful scarf

I have a new wool coat, it's a rich burgundy / wine colour. It's long with lapels and a belt (a bit like a very beautiful dressing gown!)

I would love a beautiful scarf to wear with it, and I'm looking for recommendations.

I don't know if I should go for silk or wool or cashmere..

If you've seen anything nice please point me in the right direction.

I am 50 and tall, size 12. I mainly dress from Whistles, Jigsaw, Sezane etc

I'm currently obsessed with Hilary Grant's knitwear, currently lusting after the St Ives scarf. Her stuff is gorgeous.

Are you wanting the scarf to be more functional and keep you warm or would you rather it was a beautiful design/pattern to highlight coat ?

Immediate thoughts - Jigsaw or Beulah,

What price range and what shape?

This one is beautiful.

Fabulous link, JaninaDuszejko!

Thank you all, some wonderful links and new brands I have not come across before.

At a first glance I LOVE the Liberty one, though it is on the pricey side of things...

Jo Edwards has beautiful scarves. House of Bruar also has a very good range - definitely worth a browse.

Liberty scarves are indeed £££ but they are gorgeous. Some of my favourite scarves were bought there years ago and have been worn such a lot! Decent cost per wear after a few years. 😉
Oh, and museum shops have good scarves - have a look at V&A.

Otrium have some nice cashmere scarves from JoE.

I think the most beautiful scarves are from Hermès. You can get well-priced ones second hand on Vestiaire Collective. I have one in the Kachinas design that I just love. The are truly life-time pieces.

XingMing · 04/10/2021 16:12

Loving the Hilary Grant link; thank you for posting, and I was going to offer Jo Gordon but see that EdmontinaDon has beaten me to it. I think we share a very similar aesthetic sensibility, Edmontina.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 04/10/2021 19:38

Probably!

Liberty is my go to for scarves (and I have many!) Have a look at Weston www.libertylondon.com/uk/search?q=Weston&search-button=&lang=default for beautiful quality and colours.

Oh no, and now I'm obsessed too! I love everything on this site!

And this is why it’s wise to be a little miserly about spreading the name of one’s favourite (tiny, limited stock) brand all over MN. Demand explodes, prices rise, the thing I’ve been saving my pennies for - heartbreakingly sold out …

At a completely different price point, £200 for something that would get left on the bus., Not on the high street have some really pretty ones. I like this www.notonthehighstreet.com/studiohop/product/chunky-stripe-winter-scarf?referredBy=plp

Talipesmum · 04/10/2021 23:14

I’ve seen these scarves at a couple of craft shows around Surrey and they’re utterly beautiful. Very fine material, so not a thick woolly scarf, but made of fine soft silk. The colours are incredible.
