Help me style this hedgehog dress

I have a new frock that I love and want to wear to my first ever non zoom mtg with my work team, but the event is outside. I've got these boots which are warm and waterproof and then thinking leggings and a chunky cardigan ideally in proper wool for warmth. But complete stuck on colours, let alone where to find decent wool without breaking the bank. Happy to pay £50ish which I know won't buy cashmere but maybe merino lambswool?

Navy or green cardigan? Thermal tights or leggings

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/10/2021 11:01

I’d go orange/mustard/brown on the cardigan.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/10/2021 12:01

I'm liking this

Depending on your industry I wouldn’t wear this dress. In most corporate places you wouldn’t be taken seriously. But I guess depends on your industry…

GlitterBiscuits · 03/10/2021 12:04

Popsy dresses have various groups on Facebook.
They are like fan sites! Some very enthusiastic customers.
You'd get loads of experts on there.

I wouldn’t either but maybe it would be ok in whatever industry OP is in
Ozanj · 03/10/2021 12:13

What is your industry? In mine (childcare) we have started networking again & arranging awards etc and everyone is going uber formal

Kittykate15 · 03/10/2021 12:14

Ah yes more context. I'm an ecologist. Male colleagues will be in jeans and fleeces, women jeans and blouses, skirts and jumpers. Smart counts as clean rather than fresh off field work!!!!

Uniqlo would be a good place to look.

UniformSchmooniform · 03/10/2021 12:19

Just want to say I love the dress! Not all industries have stuffy dress codes. I work in broadcasting amongst a lot of creative people and that outfit would be totally fine.

Would be absolutely fine across most of health and social care, education, arts, lots of charity sector roles and apparently ecology too.

What is it you have taken offence to, the hedgehogs? The mushrooms?

Would swallows be okay, or a flower pattern?

Dashinghaberdashery · 03/10/2021 12:25

Aww please enjoy your hedgehog dress. It suits an ecologist.

Caramellatteplease · 03/10/2021 12:34

Have a look at woolovers some of their coatigans might fit the bill (looks, warmth and natural fibres) and come in under budget

Kittykate15 · 03/10/2021 12:37

@Caramellatteplease ooh not come across them before thanks :-)

Really nice dress OP. This cardigan from GAP might tick your boxes.

Green or tan could complement the dress, and go with lots of other things. Navy too.

whatswithtodaytoday · 03/10/2021 12:41

Would be absolutely fine in publishing 😁 Very few people wear formal dress, you'd look very out of place unless you were literally the CEO.

I always struggle with brown shoes and tights/leggings, not sure what to suggest there. But I'd definitely go with a cardigan around the same length as the dress, with pockets, in a darker green or blue.

thesearelaughterlines · 03/10/2021 12:45

Love the dress
I have no fashion sense whatsoever so just wear whatever you like with it 😊

Caramellatteplease · 03/10/2021 12:46

Their wool isn't the trendiest cuts but it is incredibly warm, often machine washable and very practical. I'm sorry i got your budget wrong, the long coatigans will be over but if you can comfortably stretch the budget you wont regret it. They prevent the horrible back gap.

Although you shouldn't get that anyway as long a you are happy to tuck thermals into your trousers/skirt or wear a dress. And no dealing with toilets and dungarees!!

JaninaDuszejko · 03/10/2021 12:47

Half my (scientist) workmates wear clothes like this. I suspect it would only be considered unsuitable in very formal and traditional industries like law, accountancy, finance. For an ecologist hedgehogs sounds perfect!

KirstenBlest · 03/10/2021 13:58

I work somewhere that is old and traditional and I'd wear the dress.

Abbielyn · 03/10/2021 14:00

This dress is amazing!

Joe Browns have some lovely pieces in the Autumn range. I like these:

What colour tights are you going for? I’m guessing you want opaque woolly tights rather than nude? So maybe navy tights and navy cardi? I’m not sure I would do a different colour leg and cardi, I think that would be too much

BungleandGeorge · 03/10/2021 15:10

Or maybe chocolate brown leg and cardi?
