Help me style this hedgehog dress

I have a new frock that I love and want to wear to my first ever non zoom mtg with my work team, but the event is outside. I've got these boots which are warm and waterproof and then thinking leggings and a chunky cardigan ideally in proper wool for warmth. But complete stuck on colours, let alone where to find decent wool without breaking the bank. Happy to pay £50ish which I know won't buy cashmere but maybe merino lambswool?

Absolutely lovely dress!🦔
I would go for rusty or terracotta colour.

RainbowCrayons · 03/10/2021 15:18

I love the dress and boots. I would wear some knit tights like these:

And then a long cardigan like this:

Or

With a thin tan belt over the cardigan holing it half open half closed to keep you a bit warmer.
You could even get a fine merino mock-neck to layer underneath to keep you warmer if it was really cold, depending on where you are.

I think I would wear it with tights and a black denim jacket but since it's for work I think a tailored blazer would work great. If you want a cardigan maybe a slightly shorter cropped one so it doesn't drown out the shape of the dress.

AnnaMagnani · 03/10/2021 15:24

People would be jealous of that dress in my industry - healthcare - where since Covid scrubs have taken over and pre-Covid Whitestuff was practically mandatory uniform.

Kittykate15 · 03/10/2021 15:51

@BungleandGeorge I was thinking similar, matched wool tights (or if it gets cold leggings) and cardi, but wasn't sure if it would be too matchy! I've got chocolate brown wool tights that would work.

@RainbowCrayons oooh hadn't really considered lighter but love that second cardi so maybe that's the way to go. Not quite sure about pale on legs but might just have to buy and try it all together. Many thanks 😊

Where did you get the dress? It is amazing and I need it

Gizmo98765 · 04/10/2021 17:48

With that dress I would maybe go for a versatile cream/oatmeal colour or rust or navy and if you want to jazz it up a bit a plain brightly coloured scarf which matches one of the brighter colours in the dress.

Gizmo98765 · 04/10/2021 17:51

Tights or leggings navy or brown depending which colour cardigan you go for.

Have a look at Snag tights they have some fab colourful shades in.

BusterGonad · 04/10/2021 17:57

I've not clicked the links but I'd team it with a rusty orange cardigan. Very autumal.

MadMadMadamMim · 04/10/2021 18:01

I love the dress! Where did you get it?

cheesegloriouscheeseyum · 04/10/2021 21:33

@Kittykate15 where are your boots from?

Kittykate15 · 04/10/2021 22:00

@cheesegloriouscheeseyum boots are from the very unglamorous, but v comfy pavers. They're mostly waterproof so good for semi presentable school run/work things

I love those boots- where are they from?!

As for cardi- I’ve got just the thing that my mum knitted. Chunky knit mustard yellow number with big wooden buttons and pockets. I teach and it’s perfect for cold classrooms and ensuring I always have required stationery and tissues at hand.
I’m not sure mum would knit you one but it’s an idea of what to look for.

That dress is right up my street.

GlitterBiscuits · 06/10/2021 18:12

@MadMadMadamMim Popsy clothes.
They have loads of quirky stuff like this but it doesn't wear well, it bobbles!

1frenchfoodie · 06/10/2021 21:40

Great dress OP. Love your styling suggestions @RainbowCrayons - having to exercise great willpower not to buy eveything you recommended after an expensive few weeks.

Your cardigan sounds great @kennycat - don’t suppose you know what the pattern was? My mum loves to knit but needs direction or we get slightly ‘off’ stuff every Christmas..

MadMadMadamMim · 06/10/2021 21:46

@GlitterBiscuits. Thank you so much. I'll have a look but the "bobbling" has put me off a bit!😊

I'm not sure about the pattern but I could ask my mum.

I like the dress too. Enjoy wearing it. It's lovely. Smile

kennycat · 08/10/2021 20:41

Here is the cardi pattern www.lovecrafts.com/en-gb/p/paprika-mustard-classic-knitted-cardigan-jacket-knitting-pattern-by-knitty-little-thing

Mum adapted it a bit but that’s basically want it is.

1frenchfoodie · 08/10/2021 21:37

Thanks so much @kennycat - willput my mum to work for a christmas cardigan (once she has finished my birthday one Smile )
