I want a warm winter dress

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 28/09/2021 12:49

Do they exist, or do I need to buy trousers?

Hush is usually good for relaxed winter dresses, they've got wool and corduroy dresses this season.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/09/2021 16:18

@londonmummy1966

TU have quite a lot of knitted dresses at the moment. I've recently bought a black cord shirtdress from there - it is out of stock online but you might find one in store.
I got a cute wine-coloured one there just today. And I keep going back and forwards on a Superdry v-neck wool-cashmere blend jumper dress that's currently reduced to £42.

Do you feel like that about men in full length sleeves too?

😂 no
turkeyboots · 28/09/2021 16:32

These people are following me round the Internet eu.wooland.com/

They look useful and warm, may give them a go.

Men should ideally show their sexy forearms at all times, you no matter how cold the weather.
Dashinghaberdashery · 28/09/2021 18:23

I have no idea where the random you came from!

QueenofLouisiana · 28/09/2021 18:23

I’ve bought a corduroy dress from Elsie’s Attic which is looking good for winter. Roomy enough to put a long sleeve tshirt under and will be fine with tights and boys.
I wore thermal tights and leggings under dresses last year due to the need to ventilate my classroom (open doors and windows in February was fun) so I’m planning ahead this year.

TheChosenTwo · 28/09/2021 18:44

I love long sleeves but they’re never bloody long enough! I have stupidly long arms and no sleeves ever seem to make it down to my wrists, it makes me so mad.
I live in ‘long’ Hmm sleeved jumper dresses or midi dresses in the winter, tights and boots.
I’m not one for trousers, waist size is too interchangeable and I don’t like the fastenings digging in or the trousers being loose! I have a couple of pairs of what are called tailored leggings which are smart enough to wear for work, thick like trousers but really comfortable and fine with a long shirt covering my bum.

AgnesNaismith · 28/09/2021 19:02

I love long sleeves too and am tall, it looks good when they poke out under coats and such like. They have to be super long sleeves though , very hard to find! I also don’t like tights too much because of the gusset sagging thing and they feel a bit claustrophobic so I bought some suspender type tights from snag whilst I was half asleep in the middle of the night!

Uniqlo dresses have been good but their waist comes up too high and makes my hips look massive. I’ve just found this one on M&S to try (for those who like similar to me): www.marksandspencer.com/soft-touch-knitted-belted-midi-jumper-dress/p/clp60511018?color=BLACK&prevPage=srp#intid=prodColourId-60511018

MalbecIsMyOne · 28/09/2021 19:46
Uniqlo has loads every year in different colors, designs and materials. This one looks pretty warm :

I also have this and can confirm it is the warmest, comfiest dress I own!

I bought last years version of this and although it is listed as a tunic I wear it as a dress with thick black tights and it sits just above the knee on me. The burgundy one is in their outlet but only available in sizes 8 and 10.

Bertiebiscuit · 29/09/2021 17:59

Tbh I don't think warm winter dresses for women exist - I've given up - if I could afford a cashmere skirt I would buy one, but haven't seen any nice ones, women are expected to freeze in horrible man made fibre dresses that are too short and don't have proper long sleeves or pockets 🤮🥶

DGFB · 29/09/2021 19:21

Hobbs do lovely wool dresses every year but might be a bit early

actiongirl1978 · 29/09/2021 19:41

I have two warm thick not wool dresses from boden. Both are lined and cotton/poly mix and are perfect for work.

I also have a coccon thick winter dress from Cos. Also a wool dress from sweaty Betty.

Also Oliver bonas have loads of winter dresses that dont involve the hideous lampshade look!

I hate full length sleeves! They looks so frumpy!
No they don't Hmm
I hate three quarter length sleeves. I have long arms, and would need to wear a cardigan to keep warm over anything with sleeves shorter than full length.

marmaladehound · 30/09/2021 10:23

@RampantIvy what my statement should have ended with is "on me"

We're all made differently and suit different things. Full sleeves look silly on me. To me they look too formal and Victorian on me! I am a very casual dresser though so prefer shorter sleeves.

Pliudev · 03/10/2021 22:44

I've seen loads of knitted dresses this autumn: Poetry, Wrap, &OtherStories, COS and costing far less, Monki. I bought a black cord dress from Monki which I'll wear with boots and opaque tights and a tee shirt underneath if it's really cold. Quite looking forward to it.

goose1964 · 03/10/2021 22:52

I have this, it's definitely warm but I'm still wondering about shoes/boots to wear with it. www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/dresses/product.relaxed-fit-maxi-sweatshirt-dress-purple.1002877003.html

LaChatte · 03/10/2021 23:03

I have this, it is my favourite dress, however I can only wear it round the house now as it git munched on by moths 🤬

GlomOfNit · 04/10/2021 12:13

turkeyboots I've also been looking (a lot) at the Wool& dresses. But they're £££ (or rather $$$) and you can't exactly try on first! And the selection available for the UK and EU is a fraction of what they sell in the US (and mostly out of stock). I'm thinking of getting my brother to get one for me in the US and post it to me... but if it doesn't fit, or looks shite on me, that's a very expensive mistake to make.

Has anyone here actually GOT a Wool& dress?

Here's the US site. wooland.com/collections/all-merino-wool-dresses
