Orange highlights - blue shampoo enough? Pic attached

Hi,

Had a full head of highlights yesterday, mainly to cover some grey, but I've got naturally dark brown hair, so always pull a little warm. Was told toner would sort it out and so put my reservations to one side.

The bottom looks fine - actually I quite like it, but the colour from ears to the roots is ORANGE. It just does nothing for my skin tone and I'm already missing the dark.

I did say to the hairdresser that I thought it was too warm and she said she could tone it again to more ashy, but that ashy can be too harsh a contrast with the dark.

Could I de orange just using a blue shampoo? (I think I already have the Fanola and the Fudge) Or should I get another toner put on professionally?

TIA

It does not look orange to me at all. Do you have a better picture

CurlsLDN · 27/09/2021 16:06

Doesn't look orange to me either, just like brunette highlights

Blondiney · 27/09/2021 16:14

It's not orange.

VeryBerry22 · 27/09/2021 16:18

Have you cropped out the orange on this photo?

CorrBlimeyGG · 27/09/2021 16:21

It is a little warm. It's not orange.

GarfieldGirl · 27/09/2021 16:59

Ah, perhaps not the best photo to show the orange then. Perhaps not quite orange, but very warm. Too warm for my skin tone.

Would blue shampoo work or do I need a proper ashy toner on it?

I'd try blue shampoo first, but make sure it's blue and not purple. I made this mistake and it made it warmer!

If that doesn't work then I'd go back and ask for another toner. Personally think the ash tone would work nicely with what you've got.

GarfieldGirl · 27/09/2021 17:15

Maybe this shows it more

@cherrytreecottage, thanks. Yes, I've made that mistake before, so this is definitely blue! Could the blue create an ashy tone itself or is that only something a hairdresser can achieve?

I can't see orange; whatever it is I think it looks nice.

gluenotsoup · 27/09/2021 17:22

I think it’s nice as it is! Not orange at all, just looks sun lightened

GarfieldGirl · 27/09/2021 17:34

Confused Do I need to go back to nursery and learn my colours? Grin

I think it was just a lot warmer than I wanted, but thanks @Hogwarts4Christmas and @gluenotsoup.

That looks like nice caramel highlights to me.

thesearelaughterlines · 27/09/2021 18:22

I see warmth but I don't see orange
I really like it
Try Fanola on for a couple of minutes see if it makes you happier .. but I honestly like it
Hard to see while you have that terrible black rash all over your face but still 🤣

thesearelaughterlines · 27/09/2021 18:23

Ohhhhh my joke fell flat . You didn't scrub out your face it's just the edge of the pic
Darn , hate it when I finally say something funny then it's actually not 🤨

Anordinarymum · 27/09/2021 20:24

I would bear with it because it will fade, and if you interfere with it you may be even more dissatisfied than you are now

cherrytreecottage · 27/09/2021 20:43

Yeah it should cancel out the brassy orange tone in a similar fashion to how purple makes yellow blonde, whiter. I've always thought of it as a type of toner, just not as strong as what salons use?!

growinglavender21 · 27/09/2021 22:57

I used this toner shampoo and conditioner when I had similar with mine. It says it's grey, but don't be put off by that. It's like an ashier version of blue toners. You can also try it and see - it'll fade quickly if you don't like it, or you can keep building on it each time you wash your hair.

I laughed when I saw your photo because that’s what I asked for at the hairdressers and what I got was ashy blonde highlights instead Grin I really like the colour you have

GarfieldGirl · 28/09/2021 11:20

This is next to the window. No filters. This is orange Confused

Use Fudge, its very good should even out your warmer tone. Just don't leave on to long.

Jellybean100 · 28/09/2021 12:21

Ok it’s very brassy in the photo in natural light, I admit.

Shirleyphallus · 28/09/2021 12:26

In the first photo it looks lush but the second one it does look a little tangoed

I’d go back to the hair dresser, needs some more toner

imonlyhooman · 28/09/2021 12:34

I'd go back and ask them to sort it before spending money in shampoo etc.

Strawbsaturno · 28/09/2021 14:25

Actually I would go back, they need to break that line up too.
