Ugg, Sorel or somewhere else for comfortable, waterproof winter boots?

I need something really comfortable and waterproof this winter for lots of walking (I’ll have a small baby so anticipating lots of sling naps) and taking my toddler to the park.

I don’t mind spending a bit because I think I’ll get a lot of wear from them and I want something that is comfy and keeps the weather out. I’m struggling to make a decision though, please help!

Following 👍🏻 I have proper walking boots but looking for something lighterweight but waterproof. Ecco did some great Goretex one last year that I wish I had picked up!

NashvilleQueen · 26/09/2021 09:52

I like Celtic & Co. I have the Aqualamb which are water proof and some of the Woodsman boots

MargosKaftan · 26/09/2021 10:20

Ooh, following too, got a dog now. Need dog walking boots for winter! Was looking at sorrel as well. How are they sizing wise?

PegasusReturns · 26/09/2021 10:24

I have sorrel and Ugg boots - the former I’d definitely recommend for wet weather walking they’re very good and very waterproof.

Uggs are lovely when it’s dry but are not waterproof. I also have some ugg style sheepskin boots which are waterproof and are brilliant for gardening. I have walked long distances in them but you don’t get any support on uneven terrains.

I also have some dubarrys with fur liners which are another excellent choice.

Celtic sheepskin Aqualamb boots were the worst I've ever had. Not remotely waterproof and wore so badly. It was a long time ago, so maybe they have improved, but they were a huge outlay for me and were nowhere near as good as the Emu boots that I bought in TKMaxx for a fifth of the price.

My best buys were the aforementioned Emu boots, they were mens ones and leather on the outside, waterproof and sheepskin lined. I've also had some good Merrell ones in the past.

I ordered some sorel 2 winters ago to try but they were very uncomfortable so I returned them both if that helps at all.

I have a 20 year old pair of timberland waterproof boots. They do similar now. A chunky Chelsea boot style. The soles are rubbery thus comfortable and have a lot of tread/grip. I have used them for multiple festivals/muddy walks and was so impressed I bought another pair so I have black and a dark tan colour

I wear them with skinny jeans and have some ankle boot toppers - like mini leg warmers - as they keep splashes off my jeans and look nice

FrogsHiccups · 26/09/2021 11:03

Second vote for Timberland boots. They have a really wide range of styles (outside of the classic 6 inch boots) are super comfortable and last forever!

liveforsummer · 26/09/2021 11:18

I have both, the Ugg's are warmer and most certainly are very waterproof.

Carbis · 26/09/2021 11:34

I hadn’t thought of Timberland but had a look and these have caught my eye www.timberland.co.uk/shop/en/tbl-uk/kids/malynn-ek-mid-lace-up-boot-for-women-in-black-a2d6a015

There is just so much choice, I love boots so it’s really hard to choose just one pair!

Those are lovely. I feel the cold so much that I need sheepskin or thermal lining but if you are a bit hardier then I'm sure they'd be fine

J0nah · 26/09/2021 11:55

My feet have started to get cold and painful in the winter so all my heeled ankle boots have been relegated to going out wear only.
Last year I bought both Uggs (mini) and Sorrel (Joan Explorer). I buy Uggs at normal size and find them lovely and warm and cosy so use for normal everyday boots. I sized up in the Sorrel, as recommended, and find them warm and perfect for dog walking as they offer more protection round the ankle on uneven ground. The sole is like memory foam so comfortable but in a different way to the Uggs.
Uggs for pavement, Sorrel for fields for me. Not related to your post but my new sheepskin slippers were a gamechanger also.

PegasusReturns · 26/09/2021 13:00

@SusannaM you reminded me Emu’s are what I have! They’ve worn really well and are waterproof.

@liveforsummer which Uggs do you have that are waterproof?

liveforsummer · 26/09/2021 13:03

@PegasusReturns they are leather biker boot style. Had them a long time so no longer able to find a link but there are loads of leather waterproof styles. I think there are even waterproof suede ones now

ichundich · 26/09/2021 13:04

Have you looked at Josef Seibel boots at all? Alternatively walking boots are generally waterproof, comfortable and warm.

Darceyhemingway · 26/09/2021 13:04

Timberlands?

Darceyhemingway · 26/09/2021 13:11

Sorry didn't read the thread. They're lovely op

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 26/09/2021 14:24

I have waterproof Sorrel snow boots from when I lived in north east USA. They are completely waterproof but so warm they are of limited use in the UK as it’s never cold or snowy enough to really get loads of use out of them!

I also have a pair of L L Bean duck boots which are fab and waterproof- the shearling lined version would be the perfect halfway house.

thatsnotmyzoo · 26/09/2021 14:27

I have some Ugg leather biker boot style boots and they are amazing. They must be 7 years old at least but i can’t part with them as they’re just the ideal winter boot. I walked miles in them, so comfy, warm and waterproof within reason. Would recommend if you can find a leather style boot.

peoniesandpastels · 26/09/2021 14:28

My Sorrel boots are really warm and waterproof. They're also far more supportive than my Uggs, which are a bit more slouchy.

MargosKaftan · 26/09/2021 15:21

What's sorel sizing like? True to size, run big /small etc.

Magpiecomplex · 26/09/2021 15:27

@MargosKaftan

What's sorel sizing like? True to size, run big /small etc.
And can anyone advise on the width?

GemmaRuby · 26/09/2021 15:30

I’ve been eyeing up the waterproof DMs… has anyone got them? Any good?

QueenofLouisiana · 26/09/2021 15:33

I bought muck books, the liberty style which are Chelsea boot style. Waterproof and warm. It's been too warm to wear them more than once, but I'm certain that won't last long now.
