Is it overpriced? Is it gimmicky? It seems expensive for what it is, although I am tempted by some of the face creams/body creams.

My teenage daughter has just been through their interview process for a temporary Christmas Saturday job. She had a group interview and then a trial shift. Was really intense! The whole process has taken a month and she didn't get the job. It turned out around 10 people had trial shifts. Seems bizarre to me that they didn't narrow it down more after the first stage. They ended up telling her others had more experience. I feel like they wasted her time.

megletthesecond · 28/09/2021 15:37

I worked there for years (second job thankfully).
Products are good, skincare especially good.
However when I was there the management was a weird clique, very poor HR, no real control over shop managers. And I speak as someone with no grudge to grind. Just an adult who knew how organisations are meant to work. I hope it's better now.

I also disapprove of their campaigns leaving shop store staff vulnerable to abuse from customers. The daft management team should be taking the flak.

I bet they didn’t pay her for the trial shift either?

DD works in hospitality and now never does a trial shift for a new job unless she’s paid for it.

I used to buy a lot from Lush about 10 years ago but I now find it too expensive. The only thing I still regularly buy is Silky Underwear dusting powder because I love the scent. Years ago, they made a limited edition solid perfume of Silky Underwear. I would love them to do it again. I’ve never found another perfume that is a good dupe.

MrsKeats · 28/09/2021 16:40

Wouldn't touch it given their awful politics.

GrimDamnFanjo · 28/09/2021 16:46

Used to shop but now boycott

mitheringsfrommorningside.wordpress.com/tag/lush/

This gives a background to some of 5he reasons why I shop elsewhere .

crispsarny · 28/09/2021 17:11

Another one here boycotting due to their politics & treatment of staff

fantasmasgoria1 · 28/09/2021 17:21

I bought some moisturiser and my skin just felt odd and not moisturised. I have used the soap, shower gel and scrub bars but I haven't bought anything for years as I don't feel the products are worth the high price.

TheChosenTwo · 28/09/2021 17:35

I like their bubble bars and sleepy range but I don’t buy the bath bombs as find them terrible value for money.
Interesting to hear about the staff being treated badly, my sister worked at Lush for 3 years and said she loved it and my niece still has a part time job at a different branch in London and has never mentioned anything bad about it!
Also, regarding the politics, I shop where I want. Amazon are always being slated and we are told it’s terrible but I still shop there because it’s convenient. I like some Lush products so will shop there too.
(Not being snippy, just saying how I feel.)

DinaofCloud9 · 28/09/2021 17:38

I'm not impressed. Over priced and they treat their staff badly.

FurzeMinister · 28/09/2021 17:43

I'm boycotting them. I used to love lots of their products, but over time I learned that they are all overpriced, and I can find much cheaper equivalents. I'd probably boycott LUSH now anyway as protest against their virulent misgoyny - and yes, you too, BodyShop! - but being able to get equivalent or better products cheaper or at similar price makes it pretty painless.

Me too.
naynayisay · 28/09/2021 20:03

It's overpriced & the stores are nightmare fuel for those people who like to browse without being hounded.

However, their products are good. I love their bath bombs and bubble bars, their Dream Cream and Sleepy creams are amazing & their perfumes are divine.

HermioneWeasley · 28/09/2021 20:09

I boycott them and body shop too

Lulu1919 · 28/09/2021 20:10

@changingsheets

Avoid lush. They treat the staff terribly
Gosh do they ...I thought they'd won some award for how well they treat staff ...
megletthesecond · 28/09/2021 20:16

In my experience they employ lots of young staff who will put up with any crap for a fun job and a good discount. Us older staff were never impressed. IIRC I gave them a crap review when I filled in a Sunday Times top employer form.

Zenithbear · 28/09/2021 20:49

I used to like some of the shower gels. The soap however seems to stain and make a mess. We have two lovely local independent shops nearby that do lovely vegan, cruelty free stuff so I don't bother with Lush anymore.
The staff are too in your face, I hate the following you and fakeness of the spiel it's almost robotic. I won't support shops that don't pay for trial shifts or treat staff properly.

Laiste · 28/09/2021 21:40

They have discontinued Rock Star.

They discontinued Flying Fox.

I refuse to speak the name of Lush anymore.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 28/09/2021 21:55

@Laiste i FEEL that on the discontinuing flying fox! it was the only thing that EVER cleared up the stubborn ezcema patches i get and theyve been hangign ever sinc eit was discontinued. gutted

NotMyCat · 28/09/2021 22:33

I used to work for Lush
What I do miss is the scents - all the other bath bombs I see tend to be the standard meh dupes of popular perfumes etc
I want herbal, citrus, gorgeous interesting scented bath bombs if anyone has ideas...
like big blue and blackberry and blue skies

Craftycorvid · 28/09/2021 22:55

I buy one or two products - bath bombs etc. They have discontinued the 9-5 cleanser which was basically the original Body Shop’s Orchid Oil cleanser. When I expressed dismay to the shop assistant at this calumny she looked genuinely perplexed and offered me a totally different product not even for my skin type. Flying Fox, too, such a gorgeous scent. They seem to discontinue anything halfway decent in favour of sickly candy floss scented products full of glitter. I can only assume they feel their core customer base is aged about 12.

As to the wildly over-enthusiastic staff, it used to amuse me when they went full North Korean news anchor on me the moment I set food over the threshold; I’m now starting to find it slightly sinister. Post lockdown, I’m afraid visiting physical shops is less of a thing for me generally.

Laiste · 29/09/2021 09:37

I must say - the look of pure upset and disappointment on my face when the Lush assistant told me Rock Star had been discontinued moved him to scout around the back of the shop for ages and find me a massive lump of it. They had lots of lumps of soap out there being kept for washing hands in store and this piece was still all wrapped and sealed.

He said ''this is from me to you - for free! Put it in your bag quick!''
and i did.
Bless his cotton socks :)

TheVanguardSix · 29/09/2021 09:46

I used to swear by their shampoo bars but actually, in restrospect, my hair was at its worst when I used them... and all of those crumbly flowery bits in my hair. No thanks!

I did love R&B hair cream, which is called something else now- Revive, I think (smells gorgeous) and I loved the facial and massage bars BUT they would fall apart too quickly and they're just too expensive for what they are. I'd return to Revive though.

Three0fivepointfour · 29/09/2021 09:57

If you are going to buy their soap trying putting it away for a year to dry out. That way it doesn’t fall apart. My mum always did this with soap, apparently it was a war thing? They do lose a lot of water though so I. Fact you are buying water..

I was going to share this! I was on the lush forum when it all started to go downhill. Sad times.

They treat staff shamefully and the products are overpriced and no where near the quality they used to be.

It's a real shame the lush forum is gone because the behaviour of some 'high ups' was ...questionable at best but sadly all evidence of that went poof when the IF did.
