I’m trying to sort out my clothes for autumn. I put together this look for the office (it’s a smart casual place). Opinions please?

I don't like the belt over the cardi, I think the belt would look better under it.

hiptobeasquare · 18/09/2021 14:12

Yeah, I wondered that.

I like the model picture because the dress is more interesting with the pattern. The black dress and brown cardi are a bit bland and boring

crumblebug · 18/09/2021 14:15

Show us with belt underneath? I think it would look better

sleepyhoglet · 18/09/2021 14:15

Or no cardi!

hiptobeasquare · 18/09/2021 14:17

Belt underneath.

I think the belt flaps around too much when there’s no cardie!

It’s much better with the belt underneath.

FinallySomeNormality · 18/09/2021 14:35

The belt is too wide. You need a thinner belt I think. And perhaps a dress with more pattern or pop in it?

hiptobeasquare · 18/09/2021 14:39

Yeah, maybe it is the dress. I haven’t worn it for ages and I wanted to try and style it before resigning it to the charity shop pile! I try and follow project 33 for each season so I don’t have loads of pieces in my wardrobe. What I do have tend to be work horse type clothing.

You've a lovely slim figure but I don't think any of the outfit does you any favours sorry.

hiptobeasquare · 18/09/2021 15:13

@TheVolturi thanks for the honest feedback, I appreciate it.

OP posts:
crumblebug · 18/09/2021 15:14

I don't think you need the belt tbh

Hoppinggreen · 18/09/2021 15:15

You do have a lovely figure but that outfit isn’t great to be honest
I like the dress though

AnnieSnap · 18/09/2021 15:16

I think it looks better with a thinner belt and more colour under the cardigan.

BronwenFrideswide · 18/09/2021 15:20

For me the cardi is the problem, it's too big and baggy on you. The one on the model in the picture you are trying to recreate is more fitted, no bagginess or draping.

Agree with TheVolturi the over large cardi does nothing for your lovely slim figure.

hiptobeasquare · 18/09/2021 15:24

Yeah, I love the cardie so much, but maybe not this particular outfit. I think I knew it wasn’t right, hence me asking for advice.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 18/09/2021 15:25

I wouldn’t be consigning that dress to the charity pile. It’s a nice work outfit - belt under or no belt.

fallfallfall · 18/09/2021 15:29

Lovely figure, lovely dress, lovely cardi and cool belt but the cardi and belt don’t work together. I don’t even think it looks great on the model.

SocksAndTheCity · 18/09/2021 15:30

I like the outfit (and the cardi) but I agree a more colourful dress and thinner belt might be better, although the wide one looks fine to me under the cardi rather than over it.

A similarly coloured elastic hair bobble is the solution to Flappy Belt in this house Smile

Russell19 · 18/09/2021 15:31

I think you need a thinner belt and a patterned maybe floral coloured dress under the cardi.

hiptobeasquare · 18/09/2021 15:31

@SocksAndTheCity excellent suggests regarding the flappy belt!

TeachesOfPeaches · 18/09/2021 15:33

That style of belt was popular a decade ago so makes your outfit look a bit dated.

hiptobeasquare · 18/09/2021 15:36

@TeachesOfPeaches I haven’t had the belt very long. I just got it about a month ago from Sézane.

OP posts:
fallfallfall · 18/09/2021 15:41

@TeachesOfPeaches, yes! That’s it very retro1980’s-90’s?
