Thanks royal style fans for the thread title!
We need banquets, some diplomatic visits and more weddings. Oh and more of gorgeous Charles (you know the one I mean!)

@CliffsofMohair what Irish names thread is this? And I just learned the term morganatic marriage 😁

Thank you for new thread, Maireas!

Maireas · 19/09/2021 07:52

Morning, banivani!
Leti definitely can carry off leather, although I prefer her in the ruby Hugo Boss skirt.

My post looked to be ludicrously early but in fairness I’m an hour later than the UK ;)

Someone in baby names looking for an old Irish baby name. It got controversial.

banivani · 19/09/2021 10:19

Ah ok gotcha 😉🙄

@KillingMeDeftly I have to take a deep breath to remember how the Scandinavian monarchies are interlinked, but, here goes…

The Danish and Swedish ones are closest - the current King of Sweden and Queen of Denmark are first cousins, as her mother and his father were both children of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden.

The direct link to the Norwegian monarchy goes back a bit further - the current King Harald’s grandfather Haakon VI was originally the Danish prince Carl, a younger son of the Danish King (and his Swedish wife Louisa). He was invited to take the Norwegian throne in 1905, and took the name Haakon when he did so. He married Princess Maud, a daughter of Queen Alexandra (herself Danish) and Edward VII of the UK. So the Norwegian Royal family is closely related to the Brits too.

King Haakon and Queen Maud’s only son married his first cousin Princess Martha of Sweden - her mother was Prince Carl of Denmark/King Haakon of Norway’s younger sister Ingeborg. After that I am happy to note they hit the post WWII period and all stopped marrying within their families. Grin

I cheerfully admit I have no idea how many degrees of cousins that makes CP Haakon and CP Victoria now - just they are definitely related!

Sophie in another dotty dress last week, from Me&Em apparently, receiving an award for her service to St John Ambulance. I quite like it and like that she's snazzed up her hair for the occasion too.

I like that too, she looks good.

Probably good that they started marrying "out"! In fact I think the only aristocratic spouses of the current crop of heirs to the throne are Mathilde and Stephanie. Mathilde is also the first Belgian Queen of the Belgians! Funny to think that some countries have never had a native-born consort.

latedecember1963 · 19/09/2021 14:23

The Scandinavian royal history was interesting. It would be good if the royal tv programme makers could start looking beyond the British royal family because there must be a wealth of information out there and it would make a change from the old rehashing of similar themes.
Is it me, or is there a spare stray hand in the picture of Sophie? Her hair always looks well groomed, but the curls are a nice variation.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/09/2021 14:42

Sophie does look good with long hair & like the waves/curls too

Didn't notice that spare hand until you mentioned it @latedecember1963

Maireas · 19/09/2021 15:21

Sophie's looking good. She's been speaking out about the menopause and the impact it's had on her. I'm glad she's breaking the taboo.

Chas and Cams were at the Battle of Britain anniversary service at Westminster Abbey today. Camilla in a nice striped number. I have to say Charles is looking well, I'd heard he'd suffered a bit health wise.

Gonegrey31 · 19/09/2021 16:32

I think Camilla is re-wearing a Bruce Oldfield dress .

Maireas · 19/09/2021 16:35

Charles and Camilla join Priti Patel forBattle of Britain service www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10006103/Prince-Charles-Duchess-Cornwall-join-Boris-Johnson-Priti-Patel-Battle-Britain.html?ito=native_share_article-top
Yes, I think she looks nice, although the shirtwaisters are a better shape on her. Nice blue.

OP posts:
RomainingCalm · 19/09/2021 17:17

Lovely pictures of Charles and Camilla. I agree that the shirtwaister style dresses are nicer on Camilla but the stripes on this one and the colours suit her.

Can't help thinking that Priti Patel had a 'what would Kate wear' moment when she planned her outfit. It just doesn't quite look pulled together (and is probably an indication of the amount of tailoring that Kate's clothes have to ensure a perfect fit.)

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/09/2021 17:20

According to the DM amongst other tabloids, apparently Beatrice has been admitted to hospital as baby is on its way.

frugalkitty · 19/09/2021 17:29

Found you, thanks for the new thread ladies!
I like the look of that Russian wedding, nice tiara. To be fair, I'd probably cling onto my non existent title too if I had one, although I agree it's ridiculous. That will become obvious with the Greeks in time, surely what's his name and MC don't try to style themselves as king and queen?

Sorry, I'm dipping in and out of here at the moment but I do try to catch up when I can.

KillingMeDeftly · 19/09/2021 18:11

I wouldn't put anything past MC @frugalkitty! Didn't she throw shade at Letizia a few years ago?

Apparently Beatrice was admitted to hospital on Friday. Poor thing, it must be a long old labour if the baby still hasn't been born!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/09/2021 19:05

Beatrice's trip to hospital may have been a false alarm as you know how the DM etc like to spin a story.
However if Beatrice is in full blown labour then I hope baby gets a move on as poor Bea must be shattered if she's been in since Friday.

Going back to MC throwing shade at Leticia.
It was during the so called 'argument' between Leti & Queen Sofia on the church steps. The one where Leti pushed Sofia's arm away from the girls.
MC commentated on a Twitter thread about it that 'it was a disgusting way to treat any Grandmother'
I would have hoped that as a 'royal' MC would have had the class to stay out of a online/media argument.

Going back to the Leti/Sofia thing From what I understand it was a misunderstanding/disagreement about photos being taken outside. The 2 young princesses didn't really want to be photographed but it was a case of Granny ignoring them.
Hence Leti trying to move the girls away.

Maireas · 19/09/2021 19:18

Yes, and Leti and Sofia clearly made up afterwards. It really doesn't need anyone stirring the pot.

OP posts:
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/09/2021 19:32

Definitely agree Maireas

StartupRepair · 19/09/2021 21:44

Yes that was not a classy or helpful intervention from MC.

MrsMaiselsRedCoat · 20/09/2021 13:15

Baby girl for Bea, lovely news. I hope her happiness isn't spoiled by her father's behaviour.

Lovely for the two sisters to have babies so close in age.

Serenster · 20/09/2021 13:54

Congratulations to Bea and Eduardo, that’s lovely news. I hope we get a photo!

Speaking of which, Hello! is publishing photos of James Middleton and Alizée Thevenet’s wedding this week. They have made it clear that rather than paying the couple, the magazine donated the money to the Pets as Therapy charity. Also, apparently Alizée wore Carole Middleton’s wedding dress!
