Purple Shampoo Recommendations

I use purple shampoo on my hair and whilst I love the fact that it stops my blonde highlights turning brassy I find that it dries my scalp.

I've tried several and am currently using Aussie which unfortunately is still giving me a dry scalp.

Any recommendations for a purple shampoo that's non drying?

How often are you using it?

Lavendersquare · 17/09/2021 12:00

@Pinkspecs about twice a week.

I use Provoke Touch of Silver but only once a week (as instructed on the bottle!) and I love it!

No idea how good but i've just been told Olaplex have brought out a purple shampoo.
I use Wella blonde recharge which i'm happy with

Pinkspecs · 17/09/2021 12:09

I used to do it twice a week and I think they would all dry your scalp out if you are doing it that often where they are quite drying.
I wouldn't do it as often.
I haven't tried the Aussie one but I use the OSMO one every couple of weeks.
Also I use olaplex and some moisturising ones.
The Redken range is also good in between.
You will dry your hair and your scalp out if you do it too often, you will also probably get a bit of a purple build up and it won't be as effective.

Lavendersquare · 17/09/2021 12:11

@Pinkspecs I've been looking at the Opalex one, is it good?

I don't realise you were only meant to use it once a week.

I really love Lee Stafford Bleach Blondes purple shampoo - doesn't stain my hands, leaves a nice tone and nearly always on three for two at Boots!
I use the Bleach Blondes Ice White conditioner with it as I love the smell.
My hair is grey naturally, so I've tried loads of shampoos to keep the yellow tones out and always go back to the Lee Stafford stuff. Touch of silver is too staining and drying for me.

Phil Smith be gorgeous is nice, smells good and I don’t find it too drying

GreenEyedDevil · 17/09/2021 12:28

I use the John Frieda Violet Crush Intensive, it smells nice and works well for me

Hopeislost · 17/09/2021 12:30

I use Fanola no yellow. It's so strong that I only need to use it once a fortnight so it's less drying.

HCHQ · 17/09/2021 12:36

Provoke Touch of Silver Hydrating Purple Toning Hair Mask is fantastic! Really combats the drying out that most purple shampoos cause. (Amazon £3.99 for 300ml)

AnyFucker · 17/09/2021 12:41

Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel Wash is great and not drying at all

I find Provoke awful. Doesn’t clean your hair at all and leaves it roughened and ratty.

TheDuchessOfMN · 17/09/2021 12:43

I use redken once a fortnight or so. I find that it really lifts my highlights and leaves hair in fab condition.
My hairdresser said to use it no more than once a week

RacheyCat · 17/09/2021 13:55

I like the Bleach London Smoky shampoo, but I put it on dry hair and then wash it out with Bleach purple shampoo. I am basically treading the line between pastel and blonde hair though, rather than just trying to stay a cool blonde.

Lush Daddyo shampoo. has the added advantage of leaving tour hair smelling like parma violets

MilduraS · 17/09/2021 15:54

I used the schwarzkopf blondme hair mask for cool blondes. It worked really well without an additional shampoo. I've started using the Redken purple shampoo occasionally because it's a bit quicker than the mask but it does make my hair dry if I don't use a good conditioner.

hilbil21 · 17/09/2021 15:55

I've used quite a few and Fanola is definitely the best Smile

Anordinarymum · 17/09/2021 15:58
@Pinkspecs about twice a week.
Only use it when necessary.

I use purple shampoo when I feel my hair would benefit from it and this might only be once a month even.. not even that

Thatsplentyjack · 17/09/2021 16:00

Fanola is great. I've oy just went back to blonde and I've probably been using it twice a week. My scalp seems fine.

Nat6999 · 17/09/2021 16:06

I use Osis or Milkshake purple shampoos, the Milkshake purple conditioning mousse is lovely as well, all can be purchased from Amazon.

Themarvellousmrsm · 17/09/2021 16:12

I use Maria Nila recommended by my hairdresser, it's sulphate & paraben free, use the silver one a couple of times a week. I like it

QuantumDog2 · 17/09/2021 16:25

I also use Fanola No Yellow conditioner. It's extremely strong, and if I just put it on for a few minutes in the shower it can turn my hair quite silvery/lilac in colour. It's too much, so now I use it once a fortnight, mixed half and half with a normal conditioner. It'll keep my hair nice and ashy until the next application. It's good stuff.

lindyloo57 · 17/09/2021 16:26

I use the l'oreal one every time I wash my hair, which is every other day, no wonder my scalp has become dry, what else can I do, I had highlights done at the salon in mid August and they were to brassy, I know I should of gone back and complained but I hate complaining, so using a purple shampoo seems to have helped.

Eminen · 17/09/2021 16:29

Another vote for Fanola No Yellow. Best purple shampoo I've used by a clear mile!
