Winter equivalent to sandals?

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 15/09/2021 10:07

I live in my Birkenstock's and flip flops pretty much between March & now.

But I can tell my days are numbered, the mornings are dewy and damp.

Is there such a thing as a winter shoe/book which is as easy (lazy) to quickly slip on and be comfy whilst warm and dry? I think I know the answer but worth a try Grin

Chelsea boots. - elasticated at the side so really easy to pop on and off.
I love from flip flops to boots and back every year!
Last year I bought DM kids ones (less bulky and cheaper, with a great sole)

Lovemusic33 · 15/09/2021 10:25

I have a pair of Chelsea boots that I love, I think they came from Next. I’m still wearing my teva sandal at the moment, would love another pair of comfy boots but fund them so clumpy compared to my light weight Teva.

I’ve been researching this a literally all I’ve worn is my birks for the last 6 months!

Basically from what I can tell is you need a high quality pair of leather Chelsea / pull on boots. They might take a bit of working in, but then they’ll be comfy and easy breezy to wear.

Some suggestions: Dr Martens (people say quality has gone down recently though), Fly London, Blundstones and Solovair. Birkenstock also do boots.

I THINK I’m going to order these: uk.nps-solovair.com/collections/all/products/s0-900-bg-g?variant=32064901120080

Alternatively you could look for waterproof trainers or if you’re not bothered about how they look, something like Muck Boots or Ugg’s.

I live in Birkenstock’s when it’s warm as they are best for my feet after various issues I had. I was very relieved to find they do winter shoes too with a Birkenstock sole built in. But if you want the slip on and off aspect rather than the comfort they offer then I’m not sure.

Birkenstock do boots and trainers now... I don't have any yet but assume they'll have the same kind of footbed support?

I love the Chelsea boots ❤️, shame I would have to sell a kidney to buy some but they look much better than DM’s.

I wear these all terrain/all weather shoes, all through winter. They give everyday comfort and are great for hikes, dog walks, bottom of the garden trips, round to the shop, etc. I can eventually pop them on without undoing the zip. I have several pairs and have bought these for years. Never pay full price, they always get reduced down to £25 several times a year. They're not quite all weather, your feet will get damp if you go puddle jumping.

jagoda · 15/09/2021 13:18

Yeah I just wear ankle boots all winter. With everything.

Sooverthemill · 15/09/2021 13:22

Well they do the Boston for winter don't they? here look for a discount code these are sold everywhere . Or Arizona comes with a shearling lining

I have these for winter here which I got from net a Porter or matches or somewhere in a flash sale for about the same price as Birkenstock's

NotMeNoNo · 15/09/2021 13:40

Chelsea boots.
Slip on trainers or moccasins - the Cotton Traders suede slip ons for example ? There must be a more cool/expensive brand of them.
Desert boots - they lace up but only 2 eyelets so it's not a chore.

Daisy03 · 15/09/2021 14:21

Sorel boots, I love the Joan explorer especially but most have a lovely jersey soft lining

CandleWick4 · 15/09/2021 14:43

Sorry to jump on here but I’ve been looking at the DM Chelsea boots and wondering if I can get away with getting a 5. I’m 5.5/6 and heard you should size down? Is that right for DMs?

I’m a 5.5 in trainers and wear a 5 in DM’s.

I’ve got vivo barefoot Chelsea boots arriving soon www.vivobarefoot.com/uk/fulham-womens-a21 hopefully super comfortable.

kerkyra · 15/09/2021 15:34

I wear Hotter black pixie boots which apparently are a bit granny looking but I love them. Can slip them on and off without much effort, they're lined, cosy and go with Jean's,leggings and skirts.

I like those Birkenstocks in brown..

Last winter I got classic Timberlands (like Cat boots) and they are really uncomfy :l

@robertthebrucesthistle I have those too. Bought them at the end of last winter so I've not worn them much yet but they seem ok. I'm used to lace up boots so we'll see how they go this winter.
Table9 · 16/09/2021 00:14

I think this is why Uggs were so popular a while back!

CheddarandChutney · 16/09/2021 13:02

I wish I hadn't seen the link to the Birkenstock boots. Has anyone tried them? Will the sole be grippy? I'm imagining the comfort of a sandal in a chunky boot!

KeyboardWorriers · 16/09/2021 13:37

I have black ankle height wellies in black that I love for this reason. Quick to pull on, perfect for a muddy school run that involves walking across fields

TerribleCustomerCervix · 16/09/2021 13:39

I have Birkenstock Boston’s, which give me the comfort of my summery Gizehs and Arizona.

Fair warning though- they are absolutely fucking hideous.
