Faux fur blue coat- a mistake?!

sunsetandcocktails · 14/09/2021 20:34

I've just bought this faux fur blue coat from M&S and think I really like it! Just not sure when and where I'd wear it? And what I'd wear it with?
I'm early 40s size 16 with young kids

What do you think of it?
Any styling ideas if I do keep it?

Thanks!

Are you worried you will look like the Cookie Monster in it? 🍪

goose1964 · 14/09/2021 20:38

I'd wear it and I'm older than you. I wear a fake horse fur bomber jacket. I think it's a versatile piece and could be worn with everything from jeans to posh frock and heels

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 14/09/2021 20:38

Wear it with anything, on a cold day even indoors Smile

crankyhousewife · 14/09/2021 20:41

I'm older and bigger than you and I have a pink faux fur jacket which I love. Couldn't give a stuff what anyone thinks.

Gregdaviessss · 14/09/2021 20:44

A couple of years ago I bought the turquoise/teal one they did. I wore it a few times with black jeans/top/flat boots. All my friends loved it but now I just can't pull the trigger so I gave it to a younger friend. I'm late 40's. My friends 23 yo nephew tried it on and he looked like a 70's pimp.

I bought a long faux fur just before lockdown one and only got a chance to wear it once, on a walk and even though it had been snowing it was very warm. However, I love the look and am another who is 'older and bigger' and for me it is a keeper, although I need some good chilly weather to get it out again!

Oh no! Cookie Monster?! Shock

Sorry that came across a bit mean. I’m not sure why I’m hanging out in Style & Beauty as I have neither!
I just read blue fur and thought Cookie Monster, but it does look nice in the photo, and other posters have made some good suggestions of what to wear it with.
I will bugger off back to AIBU.

dontgobaconmyheart · 15/09/2021 00:35

I really like the colour but not the cut or fabric, it'll add bulk and boxiness to the top half of the body as will the fabric thickness and I can't picture what it would be worn with that would avoid that, with skinny jeans say, it would look very unbalanced, I can't see it working with a skirt or dress. It strikes me as difficult to style and I wouldn't keep anything that were true of, personally.

Happy to accept I'm wrong, it may well look fantastic on, in which case keep it if you love it and will wear it OP!

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/09/2021 00:39

I love a faux fur jacket, and the colour is fab, but I don't like the shape/cut of that one personally.

SarahBellam · 15/09/2021 06:09

I absolutely love it, though you will get called Cookie Monster every single time you wear it.

midsomermurderess · 15/09/2021 06:28

Buy some big plastic earrings and go the full Pat Butcher.

I have a similar coat bought at M & S last year. I am older than you. I tend to wear my usual winter clothes of black boots/ankle boots and black trousers.
I have had loads of compliments about the coat and the shape looks good on.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 15/09/2021 07:09

I love it. But I think it's the kind of thing you need to try on and then decide, rather than just liking it in principle, since I don't think it would suit everyone.

Girlintheframe · 15/09/2021 07:14

I love it.

Yespresh · 15/09/2021 07:17

Go for it. Just remember it is the statement piece of your outfit so dont accessorise too much and keep the rest of the outfit one/two colours and simple. Chunky boots, leggings/jeans and tshirt.

Divebar2021 · 15/09/2021 07:19

Hard to say without seeing it on a body… I’m not sure where it sits. I’d wear it with grey / black jeans or trousers and DM shoes or something chunky on my feet. Crossbody bag. I just pinned this image ( for me) which happens to have a fake fur jacket in as I have my mums fake fur from the 1970’s ( St Michael). Pinterest might throw up some blue coat inspiration if you have a look.

CuckooCuckooClock · 15/09/2021 07:19

Love it.
I have several faux fur coats in various colours. I wear to work over smart trousers (straight cut) and blouses and at the weekend with jeans (different cuts). Personally I think it pretty much goes with anything. But I don’t mind looking slightly mad! Also early 40s if that matters.

Divebar2021 · 15/09/2021 07:21

I’m also a size 16 and I’m not stressy about clothing that makes my body look bigger ( if it even does)

DeadButDelicious · 15/09/2021 08:14

I think it's fabulous OP! I once had a black and white striped faux fur coat and I loved it! Even if I did look like a massive fluffy humbug. I really miss that coat.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 15/09/2021 08:42

I've been looking at the brown version of that in the hope that I'd look like this in it. I won't. Am late 30s, size 14 and few months post c section with massive breastfeeding boobs still. It will be covered in dribble and snot within minutes but I don't care and am probably going to go for it anyway with black wide leg trousers or straight leg slightly cropped jeans.

Deathraystare · 15/09/2021 09:17

I like it, I would wear it. Mind you I would not say I am a woman of taste! But I did talk myself out of the M&S lightweight puffa jacket in green cos I did not want to look like Mutant Ninja Turtle!

1moreglassplease · 15/09/2021 09:36

I bought that jacket the other year in the dark green and love it. It's very warm and soft, and looks great with either dark denim or my khaki trousers. I am very tempted to also buy the raisin colour this year which I'd prefer to the blue version. I wish it was a more navy shade. I'm 52 and don't care what anyone thinks Smile

Shakeyourface · 15/09/2021 09:42

It’s a beautiful colour. Wear it wherever, school run, Sainsbury’s, pub!
