I can't have manicures or pedicures as people fiddling with my nails makes me feel sick!

I am also about ready to give up on sandals forever as I find they all dig into me! Anything with a toe post being the worst offenders

Do you have any quirks which mean you miss out on some S&B treats or trends?

I can’t wear toe posts either! So uncomfortable.

Not so much a quirk, but physical limitations, I have very bulbous calf muscles and can’t fit any trousers that are “skinny” or “slim”, and size 9 feet, so shoe options are fairly limited and often functional rather than fashionable.

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 13/09/2021 14:48

Yes, I'm an eight (or EU 41, which some people say is a seven). I've noticed that a lot of places only go up to an eight / EU 41 in women's shoes. Bit crap. Maybe there's a link between bigger feet and not being able to tolerate toe posts 🤔.

Even birkies can get me. I do walk a lot though tbf. I'll probably hang on to my birkies but just remind myself next summer that I can only wear them when I'm not walking far!

Another size 8 who can’t wear toe posts here!

I think it’s because I have a fairly big gap between toes. Also my feet are too shallow/narrow for the strap of the sandals or flip flop to hold my foot in place, so they slide around causing the post to run

When I look at the feet of flip flop wearers, they all seem to have them fairly well wedged on.

I’m clearly over thinking thisSmile

givinglessfucksdaily · 13/09/2021 15:02

I can wear fabric toe posts but nothing plastic ! Uuurrrgh hate them

I have slim lower legs but muscly calf muscles. I can only wear skinny jeans if they have a decent amount of stretch. Can never find long boots that fit. Get very jealous at this time of year when people are starting to buy long boots for winter.
Mariell · 13/09/2021 15:15

Those footbed Birkenstock sandals with the ridges! Awfully uncomfortable and made my toes scrunch up with every step!

TomorrowSomething · 13/09/2021 15:29

I'm short but have never really taken advantage of heels to make me taller Grin

I did have a couple of pairs in my teens / early 20s but even then I thought they were crap. Never worn high ones (pretty sure I'd have broken something if I'd tried - graceful I am not!).

But they've just never appealed. I just don't like the way they look. I think they make feet look sort of squashed and ugly.

Well aware I'm in a minority with this view Grin. And I can't reach things on high shelves!

Gwenhwyfar · 13/09/2021 19:35

I feel the cold and don't drive so can never look nice really. I've always got loads more layers than everyone else and "sensible" shoes.

I'm also short and don't want to wear heels.

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 13/09/2021 19:57

I'm tall and also cannot wear heels without looking like some sort of ogre, with a bad limp 🤦‍♀️.

I have merino thermals which are amazing if you do a lot of walking in winter. Pretty unobtrusive too, so you can wear a bit less on top!

Coniferhedge · 13/09/2021 20:18

I love wearing heels but find I walk like Dick Emery in them.

ofwarren · 13/09/2021 20:23

I hate the feel of waistbands so basically live in dresses.
I can't stand the rigidity of jeans especially.
I also hate the feel of most shoes and wear sandals as long as possible, even in the cold. Wet days I wear wellies.

znaika · 13/09/2021 20:27

Even the most delicate necklace makes me feel like im being strangled or about to be strangled. Seriously hate them and never wear. (Think they look good on others though)

Magpiecomplex · 13/09/2021 20:28

Another with size 41 feet here, but I'm absolutely fine with toe posts. I have a bony lump at the base of one big toe (not a bunion) which makes certain shoe styles very uncomfortable, but toe posts go nowhere near it so are great!

FramboiseRoyale · 13/09/2021 20:37

I find these delicate necklaces that you can hardly see a bit ridiculous if truth be told. I mean, what's the point?

Spooky, I was just going to write a post about the disappearing 8/42. I always thought an 8 was a 42? But it's contentious apparently, it depends on which brand you look at. It seems like some brands have stopped making 8/42, either stopping at 7/41 or calling a 41 an 8.

I have a few pairs of Shoe the Bear boots (size 42) that fit perfectly and are very comfy on my increasingly picky feet, just had a look at the website and suddenly they only seem to make shoes up to size 41.

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 13/09/2021 23:06

I have rheumatoid arthritis which had completely messed up my feet. For the past 10 years I've only been able to wear trainers or FitFlops - giving up lovely shoes in my 30s was very difficult. Happily FitFlops have improved loads since I was diagnosed and I can wear things like ballet pumps and boots again. I'll never be able to wear heels again though Sad

And tights make me feel all squirmy and hot and itchy. I have to wear leggings in the winter instead!

AnnieSnap · 13/09/2021 23:10

I can’t deal with wearing skirts. I have a few, but they just feel wrong- in a ‘quirky’ way. It’s not a waistband thing, I’m fine with pants (including elasticated). It’s not a floaty fabric thing - I enjoy wearing dresses!

goose1964 · 13/09/2021 23:45

I have enormous muscle calves so can't wear off the rack boots. I have the feel of jeans so live in joggers. I'm not to wear heels because I've a knackered hip but find that I don't fit in most dressier flat shoes as I also have side feet. I can wear toe posts, birkenstock have oval ones so there's a smooth rounded post at the gap between the toes.

Zebracat · 13/09/2021 23:59

Size 42 feet, no toe posts. No heels. can’t stand nylon tights, can sometime stand cotton tights. Even crew neck jumpers make me gag. I think I would expire in a turtle neck or polo neck. Hate all collars. I can only cope with fingerless gloves. I hate belts, too many buttons and ruffles. Never found a plunge bra I haven’t fallen out of, although they look fine in the changing room. And Lacy underwear. What is that about?

3beesinmybonnet · 14/09/2021 00:08

Just thinking about toe post sandals makes me squirm though I had some flip flops on holiday when I was 14 or so.
Anything tight round my neck also makes me cringe. I've just had to tuck my chin inside the neck of my jumper while reading this thread Grin

Justilou1 · 14/09/2021 00:17

I feel like I’ve found my people! Hate anything between my toes! In theory, I don’t hate sandals… but I hate what they let in with your feet! Even though I’m only 5ft, I couldn’t walk in heels to save my life. I’m so happy you can get away with trainers or boots with pretty much everything these days! I dislike the feeling of anything tight around my neck or wrists - no necklaces, bracelets or watches. I quite like an earring or three though. I have started cutting the ribbed neckline out of most round-necked t-shirts because I feel like they’re choking me. I am completely disproportionate. Narrow shoulders, big ribcage (carried twins to term) short torso (less than an inch between rib age and hipbone) and shorter arms, long legs (for a shortarse). Finding clothes is a nightmare. I’m very petite and still have the ability to look like a figurehead atop a spinnaker at full sail in most dresses. Skirts look like a garbage bag tied at the top, and my boobs are practically in my armpits these days.

AnnieSnap · 14/09/2021 03:13

I hated any toe posts until, having developed plantar fasciitis, I tried Fitflop flipflops (I can’t remember why I decided to try them). From the beginning though, I found them extremely comfortable. I nearly live in them during the summer except for long walks and can now wear Birkenstock toe posts too.

Wiredforsound · 14/09/2021 04:32

When I wear high heels I look like a goat. I feel ridiculous in them. Jeans feel really heavy and claustrophobic to me. High necklines make me feel like a trussed up Turkey. Definitely no toe posts.

dreamygirl25 · 14/09/2021 06:31

Pump type heels without straps. I don't understand how people wear them without them falling off or being too tight (Kate Middleton / Victoria becham)

BikeRunSki · 14/09/2021 06:59

Oh yes, high necks on anything. I can’t bear even the thought of a turtle neck.
