Aliceclara I browse through favourite websites and think about what would go together then purchase a few bits. I use Stitchfix too sometimes. I like (currently) Russell and Bromley, Baukjen, Sezane, White Company, Hobbs and Anthropologie.

@EllaPaella so far, so good! I haven't actually worn the boots out or for any length of time yet though. I bought a similar pair last year in black from M & S which are so comfortable, look great with jeans or dresses, so when I saw the khaki in store (colour is better IRL) I couldn't resist.

MintyGreenDream · 15/09/2021 20:48

A 3/4 length grey duvet coat from Superdry. Was supposed to be around £250 but got it for £170.

Aliceclara · 15/09/2021 21:17

@Durbeyfield

Thank you! I'll have a look at those 😊

AnnieSnap · 15/09/2021 21:34

And a Janelle Waterproof/windproof coat from Seasalt. I have lost over 7 stone in the past year, so starting with very little that fits,

Twostepsbackagain · 15/09/2021 22:56

@Bakingtraypan, any links to the knitwear please? Those jumpers both sound lovely!

FluffyWhiteBird · 16/09/2021 00:47

Congratulations on the weightloss @AnnieSnap. The blue wrap knit and the tank top are gorgeous.

@Pigtailsandall I have so many coats because I feel hidden away underneath so I need my brightness on the coat. It will be interesting to see what people wear this winter for bottoms and shoes. I wonder if people near me won't change much, everyone is usually quite basic. I've noticed a little more vibrancy over summer than usual.

@Aliceclara

Does anyone have a go to online shop for clothes? I feel I'm stuck in a rut clothes-wise. How do you decide what to buy? How do you put an outfit together?
Hard to describe. I know what suits my body shape. I look at the pics and pay attention to the model's body shape and how it looks on her. If she's a totally different shape to me and I looks fabulous on her, I have to think carefully about whether it'll also work with my proportions (or most likely not).

As for what to buy, I know what I like. I stick with fashion upto a point but don't slavishly follow trends, I stay true to my own style. For everyday clothes I like smart casual because it works everywhere. I never stopped wearing bootcut jeans and flared trousers, and I won't throw out all my skinnies now either. I often size up so clothes don't feel restrictive when I'm lounging around, unless something needs to be very fitted to look it's best.

What do you like? I feel like an outfit starts with the shape at the bottom and goes from there. So skirts and dresses? Trousers? Have a look at shapes and lengths, see what appeals. Look at what shapes/colours/types of items others wear alongside those things you like. The model will be wearing a complete outfit for a start. But look around and get some ideas, run a Google image search, keep your eyes open when you're out. I generally shop in outfits not items, the mix and match later. Shopping for individual items can occasionally result in purchasing something I love but which I have nothing to wear with it. If I don't want to buy a new coat/shoes I always think if the item will match with the coats/shoes I already have, so I'm not limited in when I can wear it eg only sunny days.

Sorry I just checked the websites (Cos and Arket) and both jumpers have disappeared - must have sold out very quickly.

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 16/09/2021 09:02

AnnieSnap-i have that wrap over jumper from stories... I love it!

Twostepsbackagain · 16/09/2021 14:51

@Bakingtraypan, thank you for checking … you clearly chose well!!

I'm loving the whole chunky jumper, baggy turned up jeans and chunky Chelsea boots thing - a bit of a nod to Dexy's Midnight Runners, I might even stretch to a silk neck tie but probably not go as far as dungarees.

Durbeyfield · 16/09/2021 20:47

I also love that look bakingtraypan - so cosy yet stylish. I like clothes that don’t look as if people are trying to be sexy, (though they are iyswim).

KimDeals · 16/09/2021 22:48

@FluffyWhiteBird that’s amazing you lost half a stone - if I lost a half stone I’d be back in the majority of my wardrobe. Every week I seem to commit to loosing a couple of lbs but it just doesn’t happen. I’m going to seriously figure it out because I will miss all my lovely clothes. It’s too unfair! grin Weirdly, it’s not just the sizes but because I was always slim/thin before, going a size up isn’t enough. They just don’t suit my new belly even if they fit! Ah to hell with it I’m definitely going to shift the weight!

This is the cashmere polo I got that is going to put all wrongs to right with my wardrobe grin

KimDeals · 16/09/2021 22:48

Attach fail, sorry

FluffyWhiteBird · 16/09/2021 23:32

@KimDeals Yes, the belly! I didn't enjoy sitting down and having this mini spare tyre that wasn't there before popping over my waistband. It's gone now thankfully. If you're going to do it I can recommend going for a winter walk every day without your coat on. You'll use up more calories keeping warm and you'll use up even more walking faster to get the walk over and done with! You'll have lost that stone by spring. Have a hot water bottle and a cup of tea ready to warm up with when you get home, so you're not tempted to turn to a big plate of hot food which would defeat the purpose. Or time your walk for when dinner is cooking if you want to warm up with food on your return. Good luck!

ladygindiva · 18/09/2021 10:10

I've tried to post photos twice but not worked but my impulsive online purchase from asda ( whilst buying dc pe trainers) has arrived and I'm delighted. Longline thick burgundy check shirt and plum leather look leggings. Next stop new look for their beige duvet coat. Bring on the cold weather!

Boilingicicle · 18/09/2021 10:24

I’ve just got this from Amazon. I got it in black last year and love it. It washes really well with no bobbling and looks just the same as the online pics. I’m really happy with the green. Not too bright not too dull.

lindyloo57 · 18/09/2021 18:44

@bendoverbackwards Sorry not sure how to link, but I know they sold out, you could check on ebay.

peaceanddove · 18/09/2021 18:55

So far, I've bought:
Black, Dr Marten's Chelsea boots
Black wool, Boden pea coat
Grey, pure cashmere gloves BNWT off Vinted (only £12!)
Black turtle neck sweater from French Connection

I need to stop buying everything in black/grey!
