@ScottishMouse I looked at your pic before reading the question and thought what a nice shirt. Suits you. Shame to save for bed!

iguanadonna · 30/09/2021 20:34

@Laska2Meryls yeah, it's a huge jumper. I wish I'd got an M instead of L and I'm a generous, busty 18/20.

iguanadonna · 30/09/2021 20:35

Love the coat, @faustina

and the seed dress @neveradullmoment99 ! Gorgeous

Right, I am spending the evening sorting through my wardrobe as autumn (if not winter!) is definitely upon us here in Scotland. So my next question for those partial to a Toast aesthetic is this…
Recommend me a bag! I need something for daytime, that is big enough to carry a bunch of things (book, water/coffee flask, purse, glasses case, keys, phone, snacks, etc) with room to spare in case of shopping etc. It needs to be very minimalist in style.
I like the convenience and comfort of a backpack this time of year, but it can’t be one that rubs against the fabric of a coat or sweater, plus I am not keen on backpacks in summer, so maybe not a backpack.
I like simple tote bags, and ordered the Ally Capellino Natalie one recently but am thinking of sending it back as I’m not sure about the comfort of carrying a bag on one shoulder for any length of time.
Cross body works well this time of year when I have a jacket or coat on, but not in summer when I have only a thin layer on top, as I am busty.

What other options are there? I feel like I have this dilemma at least a couple of times a year, spend hours looking online, but always resort to the bag lady look of free cloth totes along with my small Kate Sheridan cross body for essentials, but I would like to invest in something to last. Any ideas?

Sorry, that was really long!!

I think that Hush leather has been beautiful in the past. This bag looks beautiful.

love the last one. Gorgeous colours.

Almost all of my bags are from Madewell which does ship to the UK, though expensive but worth it to me. I like the totes best and use this one most:

acorn tote

but if you look on the Madewell site itself and search for their Transport series, they have lots of different styles with the same style - very simple - they last forever. They do canvas and leather

ScottishMouse · 30/09/2021 21:21

I knew I could count on you folks for good bag suggestions I hadn’t heard of. Thank you! Off for a browse before bed!

Saurus72 · 30/09/2021 21:23

Do you know about M.Hulot bags @ScottishMouse ? Someone on this thread made the recommendation last summer and I bought a really plain tan crossbody which was perfect for life in lockdown and all those walks. I’ve since been lucky enough to win a little red crossbody bag from them in an Instagram photo competition back at the start of the year, and have used it loads. There are some lovely looking totes and satchel type bags, all very understated. Based in Cambridgeshire, run by a lovely woman. mhulot.co.uk/collections/bags

My other suggestion from experience would be Ally Capellino - I have and love the Natalie tote in khaki, bought for less than half price at at sample sale!

I also (but haven’t bought any myself so not sure of quality) really like the look of Mimi Berry bags, very plain but low key luxe.

I have previously had a few things from Kate Sheridan - functional and fine but there was nothing really lovely about them for me.

I love handbags Blush

ScottishMouse · 30/09/2021 21:31

Oh thanks for the reminder @Saurus72, I had forgotten about M Hulot. More browsing!
I really love the AC Natalie - I bought this season’s green - but I am just not sure it wouldn’t give me problems with my shoulder and neck. I tend to throw more into my bag than I need, and then I can feel my shoulder up around my ear as I try to stop my bag falling off my narrow shoulder.

ScottishMouse · 30/09/2021 21:32

I saw that Ally Capellino has a sample sale coming up, with Jo Gordon (fabulous knitwear!), but of course it is in London. I do wish companies would not send me details of their sample sales that are hundreds of miles from me, gives me terrible FOMO!

Its a bummer being in Scotland. No chance for me to get to sample sales either. Annoying!
neveradullmoment99 · 30/09/2021 21:42

I tend to carry nothing. I have three kate sheridan bags. All tiny. Fits a purse and phone, mask and thats it. I have had all sorts of bags but fine I just clutter them with junk!

neveradullmoment99 · 30/09/2021 21:43

I do love the toast ikat bag...
However I do worry about bags with no clasps to close them.

neveradullmoment99 · 30/09/2021 21:43

find not fine!

Saurus72 · 30/09/2021 21:47

The sample sales are really good, the Jo Gordon knitwear is beautiful. I couldn’t make this one though, there’s usually another in May so maybe then.

Oh, I love AC bags too! I mostly use one of the bowling bags from many years ago. It’s massive though and I do tend to put far too much in it.

I didn’t like the workwear dress on me. It was snug over boobs and very loose elsewhere. I might have gone down one size too many … I don’t know. But wallet is happy. I have tended to only buy in the sales, and enjoyed the pot luck of seeing what was left when it reached 70% off, but this thread is just constant temptation!

I do love the a-line pinafore though. I do live on a farm though … at the moment I’m wearing it over thermals so not toast aesthetique ;) The pockets are the most amazing things, pretty sure you fit a small lap top in each!

Loved the TKMax coat!

ScottishMouse · 30/09/2021 22:07

I also have a very small Kate Sheridan bag @neveradullmoment99, and mostly I use that and bring as little as possible with me. But sometimes I have days where I want to have a book with me on the off chance I get time for a quick read and maybe some water if I am going to be out all day. But maybe I should just stick to my free tote bag lady look because I would probably just bring a bigger bag and fill it with crap everyday if I had one.
