It struck me this morning that after all these years I might be putting my mascara on incorrectly

I don't think it's the mascara- although i am trying out a new one- I normally stick with tubing ones.
It's just, mascara always clumps on me, always.
I just assumed it was the mascara( It could be) but it could also me.

How do you manage to layer mascara without it looking crappy?

Mine was PA/secretarial college, but the school I went to had been all girls. And although first year of accepting boys, was still geared up towards teaching girls only. They brought in Oriflame consultants to teach us how to apply our makeup for job interviews.

BigButtons · 11/09/2021 17:26

@LaVieEstBelle159 the scary thing is that it wasn’t that long ago. I would hope that things are better now or are they just different.
The head and deputy at my school really were from a different generation: big hair, twinset and pearls , the lot. It was only a London comp.
So despite being taught to apply my mascara to both sides I didn’t listen and h e come here for advice 🤣

The best eyelashes I ever saw were my aunt's I watched her applying block mascara her eyelashes looked like false ones when she had finished

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/09/2021 19:32

I had block mascara as a child playing with make up. It's the saliva that makes the differenceWink

BigButtons · 11/09/2021 19:57

Can you still buy block mascara?😮

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor
😂😂😂,
I'd forgotten about that secret ingredient!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2021 13:42

I so want some now I've seen it in that link,bit looks fab!

BigButtons · 12/09/2021 14:09

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor bet it would last forever basically.

Yes saliva has great preservative propertiesGrin

YouSetTheTone · 12/09/2021 17:01

What? What’s this about ‘both sides’ of the lashes?? I do the ‘underneath’ (ie the side that someone looking at you sees when your eyes are open). Surely doing the other side results in mascara allll over your upper eyelid?

I’ve never applied mascara vertically either. Feeling vaguely mind-blown. And why does it help to put it on while looking down into a mirror?

Must try all these things obv.

And I love tubing mascara. Love how you can just take it off with warm water. I do occasionally worry that I’m pulling lashes out with it but that’s just paranoia though right?

Sweetpea1532 · 12/09/2021 19:36

@BigButtons
@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

With your posts, I'm predicting a run on cake mascara....maybe even a worldwide shortage😂

BigButtons · 12/09/2021 19:40

@Sweetpea1532 I am going to get some- might not be that brand as it's quite expensive. I do love the tin though( sucker for advertising). I used to have some cake eyeliner somewhere. I wonder if it's basically the same thing?
I have some stuff from mac that you can use to turn your eyeshadows into eyeliner. I always forget to use it though.

@BigButtons

BigButtons · 12/09/2021 19:49

@Sweetpea1532 yes and most of it hourglass and becca 😮🧐

I do my bottom lashes first then my top lashes don't smudge
And I use a different mascara for each Grin
Bottom lashes are innisfree microcara which has the tiniest brush ever

NotMyCat · 12/09/2021 19:59

Next to a standard mascara brush

I think this has to be my favourite ever post [always on the search for the perfect mascara and have ordered the serum from Amazon, the MF primer and Collection 2000].

BigButtons · 12/09/2021 20:12

@NotMyCat I have heard about that for bottom lashes. Mine are very long and when I use a Normal wand it’s all over my face.

OP posts:
BigButtons · 12/09/2021 20:14

@LaVieEstBelle159 my serum arrived today. Just put some on. We could compare progress?😃
I need to get some more primer.

LaVieEstBelle159 · 12/09/2021 20:21

Oooh @BigButtons let me know how you get on Smile I'm going to take before and after photos.

BigButtons · 12/09/2021 20:23

@LaVieEstBelle159 ooh good idea-I’ll do that too 😃

Yeah I always do bottom lashes first every time! Mac extended play is good for lower lashes but the innisfree is cheaper Grin
