Tired of tiered!

Why is every single dress and skirt for sale at the moment tiered? I don’t like it, too reminiscent of Little House on the Prairie for me, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to find a midi dress or skirt without tiers. Does anyone share my pain?

I don't love them either. The last few midi or maxi skirts and dresses I've bought (NRBY, Kemi Telford, Baum Und Pferdgarten) aren't tiered.

Coffeeonmytoffee · 06/09/2021 21:42

It's awful - we aren't 7 year olds!! I don't want to twirl!!

missfliss · 06/09/2021 21:45

Same.

And much to my chagrin I thought I'd found a nice button through non-tiered autumn skirt, and I've realised that it does in fact have a tier!

A subtle one, but a tier nonetheless...

Grrr

missfliss · 06/09/2021 21:46

This is the offending tiered skirt ( can't believe I didn't notice!!)

Monki had none tiered skirts, I've bought a couple of shirt dresses without tiers.

As long as we don't go back to body con I'm happy.

Rach247 · 07/09/2021 08:00

@missfliss the dark colours hid it well! I can see how you were deceived.

Can short and slightly chubby people wear midi skirts? I mean is it flattering or a no-no? I have never considered or worn a longer skirt. Should I??

Rach247 · 07/09/2021 08:28

@R0tational I think everyone suits midi skirts.

Yes, they ruin an otherwise nice line. Hate the trend

Jojoanna · 07/09/2021 08:37

Can’t stand the trend , I find it very difficult to find non tiered !

missfliss · 07/09/2021 18:03

My accidentally tiered Oliver bonas skirt went back today - it looked stupid on. Like i was playing Romany gypsy dress up.

I've ordered two from hush - so we'll see ...

MsDastardley · 07/09/2021 18:26

I don’t mind them occasionally. Just been browsing the new Baukjen collection, and every sodding dress is tiered. Some are ridiculously long too. I’ve recently bought a shirt waist dress from Hush, that is ok. Also got a couple from Somerset by Temperley, and they are lovely, really good quality. I’m also thinking about the Hobbs Alex dress, which is lovely in real life, but a bit more conservative than others I’ve seen

JuneFromBethesda · 07/09/2021 18:28

I HATE them. Hate this neverending trend for voluminous dresses, puff sleeves and tiers. Can we have some clothes for grown-up women please?

Minta85 · 07/09/2021 18:42

@JuneFromBethesda My thoughts exactly! Fed up of fashion trends that make grown women look like little girls. I live in hope that clothes that actually look good will come back into the shops soon...

MsDastardley · 07/09/2021 18:44

I really dislike the massive droopy collars which are on everything at the moment. Definitely a no for me

ShrikeAttack · 07/09/2021 18:51

COS has got loads of non-tiered skirts if you're after one.

Oh god the collars @MsDastardley!!! They’re even worse than the tiers, and I didn’t think that was possible. Boden has lots of stupid collars, big ones, little ones, it’s Princess Di circa 1980. Hideous.

goose1964 · 08/09/2021 12:45

I love tiers, they're fabulous at hiding my bloat.

goose1964 · 08/09/2021 12:47

Marks has loads of non tiered skirts

TornadoTrinity · 08/09/2021 14:06

I don't suit them at all and agree they are a bit childish! I look like an overgrown toddler in them.

Honestly, you could try eBay? They do seem to be eeeverywhere.

XingMing · 08/09/2021 20:21

It's not the best look on anyone over 20, unless you have the dimensions of an ironing board IMO.

But sleek A line midi skirts/dresses and knee length boots is grown up, chic and ageless on everyone. Also warm, with tights in winter. A bit (2-5cm) of heel helps too, as long as you can walk.

stringbean · 10/09/2021 08:03

I’m with you all on this - I find tiered dresses/skirts, along with ruffles, flounces, pouffy sleeves etc just too fussy. My go-to dress style is a simple shirt dress to mid-calf which ties at the waist (or I can add a belt) but it’s hard to find them without tiers or one of the above this season, and I don’t like twee/ditsy prints which rules out a lot. Am beginning to think what I’m looking for doesn’t exist. Will be glad when this look is over!!

Minta85 · 10/09/2021 13:53

@stringbean Dorothy Perkins have non-tiered plain shirt dresses www.dorothyperkins.com/twill-tie-waist-shirt-dress/AQQ45599-2.html?dwvar_AQQ45599-2_color=135&quantity=1
