Tired of tiered!

Why is every single dress and skirt for sale at the moment tiered? I don’t like it, too reminiscent of Little House on the Prairie for me, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to find a midi dress or skirt without tiers. Does anyone share my pain?

@missfliss oooh I like that. Maybe slinky is the way forward. It’s impossible to do a slinky tier.

I love a tiered 😳. Thanks for all the pointers as to where to get them 😁

Not big on puffy sleeves and ruffles, mind.

Hate tiers, late 70s then re-emerged in the 00s

stringbean · 10/09/2021 15:46

Thanks Minta85 - sadly too short for me though!

I'm with you OP. What is the point of bloody tiers?

Also hate fancy, puffy sleeves of any description, and those hideous flappy ruffles.

Makes me cross to think of the waste of energy, cloth and thread used to make them.

Also, elasticated cuffs at the bottom of trousers. Ugh.

@JuneFromBethesda I’ve just got the Boden catalogue - you’re so right, collars and ruffles everywhere. It all looks like the kind of stuff which is destined for a crowded sale-rail.

Agreed. I can't imagine seeing anyone in real life wearing any of it.

AuntMasha · 12/09/2021 20:08

Those ruffled collars are such an odd fashion revival. The Puritan collar looks great on people from the 17th century. Just hope they don’t try and revive the Elizabethan ruff.

Rach247 · 12/09/2021 20:26

And Boden had a lot of another pet hate of mine: adult dungarees.

When I see those collars I hear “berries and cream”

I hate tiers too. I like a midi skirt/dress to flutter and flow but tiers mean it just looks plonked and poofy. Sometime you spot a lovely print on the rack, get excited, only to find those dastardly tiers laughing back at you.
