Customise a dress to show less cleavage?

I have a works do coming up soon. The dress code is evening wear. I’ve ordered this dress and I love it but it has a little too much on show for my liking? How can I customise it? Not too handy with sewing or anything!
Thank you

I was going to say the same can you wear a bralette or even no bra basically the reverse of a wonder bra.

The dress looks amazing anyway and doesn't look wrong for a work event.

Pippapet · 06/09/2021 22:46

Tiny bit of black guipure trim (from haberdashery or Ebay), fixed on with wonder web or tacked on from the inside - anyone you know who can sew on a button could do it.

Girlintheframe · 07/09/2021 07:11

You look fantastic in that dress!

CommanderBurnham · 07/09/2021 09:15

I think a modesty panel will ruin the dress.

It looks absolutely stunning on you. Wear it as is. Or wear it somewhere that does you justice.

I feel really exposed with cleavage showing. Wearing your hair down will help.

GrannyPantsAreGreat · 07/09/2021 09:20

Don't be modest, OP. You look fab.

Totally agree with this. You look amazing in that dress. I know it's probably a confidence thing and obviously it's important that you feel comfortable but just swinging by to add another vote for wearing the dress as it is. It's lovely and you look amazing in it!
JustHavinABreak · 07/09/2021 09:48

Oh WOW!! You look stunning. Don't change a thing. If I looked like you in that dress I'd never take it off. I'd look fabulous sashaying down the aisles of Tesco!

gunnersgold · 07/09/2021 09:48

Just sew it up together near the bottom of the v , I do this all the time .

gunnersgold · 07/09/2021 09:52

So stitch these two bits of material together . Does that make sense ?

This dress is STUNNING @Cleavage - do you have a link?

thefamous5 · 07/09/2021 09:59

Phwoar!

You look gorgeous. Obviously, I can understand you wanting to cover up a little more because of being around work colleagues but I honestly don't think it's too booby. It's classy! Otherwise, what about a sheer piece of material sewn in?

FinallyHere · 07/09/2021 10:21

You do look great.

If I wanted to feel less on show I would buy a strip of black or nude coloured lace.

Wearing the dress, insert it to decide whether black or nude looks better. Then pin it in place with two safety pins on the front.

Take off snd turn dress inside out. Stitch or pin from the reverse side. Try on again.

It may take a few goes if you don't have anyone to help you. It will totally be worth it.

trunumber · 07/09/2021 10:24

I agree with a different bra (or maybe no bra?) a modesty panel will ruin it (I wear them sometimes, they look awful)

You look stunning!!! Smile

OldTinHat · 07/09/2021 11:00

What I wouldn't give to look like you!! Beautiful dress, lovely silhouette. I would suggest the same as PPs if you're uncomfortable by getting a modesty panel.

Cleavage · 07/09/2021 12:34

Thank you everyone. You’re all kind and helpful Smile

What about a chunky or multi layer necklace to "blur" what's on show?

Don't tinker with the dress, it will ruin it and it's stunning on you.

QuestionableMouse · 07/09/2021 13:26

How about a fan? You could hold it up when you felt you needed a bit more coverage, they're pretty and if you get any unwanted advances, you can defend your honour 😂😂😁

Ah, you look beautiful. How lovely to put a long frock on again.

CommanderBurnham · 07/09/2021 15:14

It looks better on you.

cicatrix1 · 07/09/2021 18:23

sorry no help... you look stunning how you are .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2021 18:25

It looks lovely, try a different bra?

Serenster · 07/09/2021 18:48

I agree that a modesty panel or an insert might end up looking less than ideal given what a stunning dress it is.

I would try buying some black lace and tacking it along the entire inside edge of the neckline, or it sits flat against your skin. I’d start at the bottom of the V neck and sew it around the whole neckline, ending up with an overlap at the base of the V when you get back to it. A bit like the picture. (You could mitre a corner at the bottom but I wouldn’t do that without a sewing machine…).

If you bought a lace like these you’d easily give yourself a bit more coverage without compromising the dress as much as some of the other options.
