Customise a dress to show less cleavage?

I have a works do coming up soon. The dress code is evening wear. I’ve ordered this dress and I love it but it has a little too much on show for my liking? How can I customise it? Not too handy with sewing or anything!
Thank you

Stunning! Better than the model in the link. As everyone has said, if you can go as is, if not then a lacy insert to cover your modesty should work well. Enjoy your evening. Again stunning!! 😀

Another saying it looks amazing, what about wearing zillions of pearl necklaces the right length to cover your cleavage? I think that would look cool x

Maybe something like this would do the trick?

Agree that you look better then the model. I like the sound of a load of necklaces to distract from the cleavage if you’re worried about it, but it looks great.

grannyjacob · 08/09/2021 18:18

I agree with others, you look fabulous in that dress as it is. I think you’d spoil it/ make it look tacky if you sewed anything on to it or wore any kind of cover over your cleavage. But if you’re still unhappy then -

  1. different bra, no bra (use boob tape if necessary).
  2. big necklace to fill the gap and/or wear your hair up plus wear eye-catching ear rings to draw eyes away from your cleavage.
  3. could you adjust the straps to make a halter neck, that might pull the two sides of the dress in more over your cleavage (then again, that might just accentuate your cleavage even more). Whatever you decide, have a lovely time and enjoy yourself.

I have a couple of tops that are way too low, but have discovered that a multistrand necklace (three chains of different lengths but all fairly short) with little coins on (Accessorise) fills in the gap nicely. However, you look amazing in that dress. Shoulders back and pretend to be confident if you have to - but enjoy the fact that you are young enough and have a good enough figure to ace this!

It looks great on you but for a work do for your DH, you may feel uncomfortably exposed. I might look for a completely sheer cropped boxy overshirt in chiffon-type fabric, so your cleavage is glimpsed rather than exposed.

XingMing · 08/09/2021 21:13

In black, obviously.

XingMing · 08/09/2021 21:14

Or lace. In which case, match to accessories.

Kintsugi16 · 09/09/2021 08:27

Unless you’ve had a boob job then a different bra would make all the difference.

Jacopo · 09/09/2021 08:40

You look sensational but I agree with you that for a work do you might want to alter it a bit. The pp above who said “phwoar” got it right. Looks amazing, but do you want colleagues to be thinking “phwoar”?
I’d get some chiffon with flock dots on it which is fashionable at the moment, and sew it from the inside in a slightly crumpled way, to cover the lower part of the cleavage. You don’t need a machine, just some black thread and make sure the stitches aren’t visible on the outside.

Jacopo · 09/09/2021 08:45

Just to add, I don’t believe the suggestion above that you could sew the two sides of the v together would work in this instance. The style is too tailored for it to be successful, although it would be possible with a more drapey style of neckline. You need to fill the gap, not try to pull it together.

JaneJeffer · 09/09/2021 08:45

I have nothing to add except Wowza you make that dress look amazing!

Etinox · 09/09/2021 09:00

You look absolutely stunning! 😍

I think the big necklace solution is best, pinning it together or using a modesty panel would look too fussy.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 09/09/2021 10:27

I think it looks great and is not at all inappropriate for a black tie event even with work.

I would wear it as is, don't use a modesty panel or try to sew it up you will spoil the style of the dress.

If you feel a bit booby I would try a less push up type of bra. One with no padding. Try a few different options and one will work.

You could also look at options for a shrug/Cape/beaded overlay and see if anything like that makes you feel better or bold jewellery to draw the eye but I would just wear the dress as is.

Cleavage · 10/09/2021 23:16

Thank you all so much for your helpful comments. And you’re all so kind. I think I’m going to go with the different bra suggestion.

I have been feeling quite low about myself and unattractive lately and this thread has given me a lovely little boost Smile

Oh, please don't. You have a fabulous figure. If I had your curves I would just wear the dress as it is.

oh dear lord you look fantastic .dont agree but as request =customise, gpo fabric shop by small bit sew in-able sheer material...also bigger bit and wear as matchy cover up if want.
