Dress for 40th

MumOfOneAndAHalf · 06/09/2021 19:39

Hello wise mumsnetters,

I am looking to buy a dress for my 40th. I am usually size 8-10 in dresses but with a stubborn mum tum after 2 Caesarians and pear shaped with a flat chest.
I would like something with some sort of sleeve (long/mid/short sleeve is fine). Also preferably a pattern rather than plain coloured.

I want to splash out and happy to pay around £300 on it. I like the brand Cefinn but nothing is quite right. Any other similar brands you can think of?

Thanks for reading - I know there have been similar threads in the past that have helped others out!

Mini / maxi?
Favourite colours?
Is this to go out in - fancy restaurant / nightclub etc

MumOfOneAndAHalf · 07/09/2021 08:30

Good questions @waltzingparrot
MIDI preferably
Favourite fabric is silk but would accept a nice tencel or similar.
I would like it to be multipurpose - wear to a restaurant or smart lunch, or house party. Won’t be for a nightclub.
Thanks

Nancy Mac has some lovely silk dresses.

I'm loving this one although it doesn't fit your silk/midi criteria. But it's beautiful and big birthday worthy.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions.
I have found EXACTLY what I am looking for but it is a tad out of my price range….

Also have a look at www.joebrowns.co.uk

Lots of different styles, colours & patterns.

Oh wow, the Stella is so pretty. Are you tempted to splurge for your birthday?

I know this isn’t patterned and probably not what you want at all, but it’s a bargain for Vampire’s Wife… had to share. Plus some others…

There’s also lots of nice Ganni on the Outnet at great prices, though not silk.

It may be worth looking at brandalley, they have some designer dresses around your pricepoint.

Would you consider renting a dress? Hurr Collective has an amazing selection and you can pay yourself on the back for sustainability credentials

Lovely colours and looks beautiful - wish I had the figure to wear it - budget would be needed too !

BeaLola · 15/09/2021 18:43

Pressed post too soon (!). Renting could give you options and if you found something beautiful could spend your budget on accessories etc ( or having make up and hair done etc )

This is has some similarities to the Stella dress

LoisLane66 · 15/09/2021 22:33

Try the Bombshell website.

CommanderBurnham · 15/09/2021 22:43

For your body type, I d say reiss will fit well.

londonmummy1966 · 15/09/2021 22:49

I'd second Nancy Mac - here is a whole page of dresses some of which are not dissimilar to the Stella McCarthy but in your price range

www.nancymac.co.uk/collections/print-dresses

and this page with the more wintry colours

Have a look at Silkfred online, they have independent traders, got some lovely dresses and you probably won't need to spend anywhere near £300
