Winter dresses?

Grandadwasthatyou · 03/09/2021 21:10

On the back of a thread asking people about their planned Autumn activities I have decided I am not going to live permanently in jeans and leggings this winter.

With this in mind I would love it if I could have suggestions for autumn/ winter dresses which I could wear with opaques and boots.
I'm 60 , size 16 and don't work anymore but would still like to look smart ( ish).
I don't like high necklines, flowery patterns or fussy frills. I'm not adverse to a dress on the shorter side as my legs are my best feature ( so I've been told!)
Hit me with your suggestions please. I would love to surprise my family with a new look.

Oh and not sleeveless or cap sleeves as the top of my arms are fat! Love 3/4 sleeves best.

There's loads on here, I have a couple and they're really good quality m.patra.com/Category/women-dresses

Oooh I'm following! I love a good dress and prefer them to jeans/leggings. I've just clocked up 50 and also a 16!

Some nice ones from Poetry, bit pricey - what's your budget?

Not sure if this counts as a high neck?

RampantIvy · 04/09/2021 13:24

Seasalt?

Me too 61 size 10/12 everything else the same, last winter or every winter I wear jeans and jumpers, I would love to wear dresses all winter if they're warm, I only own two winter dresses, one is animal print long sleeved from warehouse knitted style but as it must be 4 years old its starting to wear, the other one is a denim dungaree style to wear with jumpers underneath but its a bit tight at the moment, I brought it from debenhams at red herring around two years ago in a size eight as I like the skirt part to be fitted thats possible why its too tight. I sometimes wear a shorter skirt with thick tights, I have a denim one, a animal print one, and a faux leather one.

I bought two of these last winter and lived in them. >Sits back and waits for the frumpy comments.<

Search Phase Eight - Bella Swing Dress. Unfussy, easy to wear and my favourite dress every winter. I have two blue and two black. I wear them with black opaques and Fly London boots. My "go to" winter outfit.

You may like Toast for dresses? Although probably not any short ones now I think about it. If you’re up for mid calf type length then I’d recommend. Fabulous quality, lovely colours and in particular their winter corduroy dresses are warm!

Seasalt

A bit of a curve ball: I got a denim pinafore dress and wear with various long sleeved tops and love it!

Quickchangeartiste · 04/09/2021 19:43

@Blossomtoes think that looks comfy. Do you mind saying how tall you are? I am 5’5” and quite small, so sometimes I get a bit swamped in Kin clothing, but I feel that it’s my natural style iyswim.

I’m shorter than you - 5ft 2in. They hit about 3 or 4in above my ankle. I might possibly be a bit swamped but they’re sooooo comfortable I don’t care! They come up very big. They look nice with tights and Chelsea boots.

I've just bought this and it's glorious

Nowhere near as short as it looks in the pic. Im 5'7 and it's about 2 in above the knee

Wizotto · 04/09/2021 20:17

I mostly wear dresses. I have a fab jumper dress from AllSaints with long sleeves, jumper dresses from La Redoute and Ralph Lauren which come out every winter…

TheChosenTwo · 04/09/2021 23:49

I love the Bella swing dresses from phase eight! I have it in 3 colours, wear them to work often, easy to wear, very comfortable too.
I also really like the look of the frumpy John Lewis one! I think it would look nice with some clumpy shoes and tights, might get it. Thanks for sharing that link!

Grandadwasthatyou · 05/09/2021 15:56

Wow. Thank you all so much for all your suggestions.

@ComingtoKent lovely dresses but out of my price range for everyday wear. Sea salt prices would be the most I would pay.

@WrinklesShminkles have ordered this thank you

@Blossomtoes think I would be swamped in this style but others have said they like them so your suggestion hasn't been in vain

@LegendaryReady think the neck may be a bit high but have ordered it nonetheless.

Nothing with a belt I'm afraid. I have a fat tummy!

Keep them coming and thank you again.

Oh sorry! Try searching “balloon sleeve dress” on Uniqlo…
