Which high street shops do you think offer the best cashmere jumpers?

The premium brands are way beyond the abilities of my purse so I was wondering if there were any standout reccs for some high street brands? M&S, Uniqlo, John Lewis etc.

When you look at the reviews there are a lot of comments along the lines of ‘quality isn’t what it used to be’. So if you bought a cashmere jumper in the last year and it hasn’t bobbled to bits can you please tell me where you bought it?

I've got loads of camera jumpers from Marks and they're nice. Don't bobble too much. I bought some on eBay so worth a look. I've also got one from Boden which is a nicer fit than the marks one-more fitted with slimmer arms. Grey a cashmere comb and the bobbling won't be an issue.

imstilljenny2 · 03/09/2021 12:24

Aaahh! Cashmere not camera jumpers!

I got one secondhand from White Company and it's lovely. Can't remember if it was NWT or lightly used, but either way was a good find.

I’ve just ordered and sent back a few as they are thin. The John Lewis ones this year are not as nice as normal and the Boden ones weren’t great. I’m going to try Pure, bought from them years ago and they were great. The current reviews are good. If you google Pure discount there is a 20% code around

A magazine did an article about knitwear and said M&S cashmere was beloved of fashionistas who buy it preloved. I have a few and picked up a men’s Autograph sweater in a charity shop. Other than that I have a Jaeger sweater that’s over 10 years old and looks great.

MissyB1 · 03/09/2021 16:58

Following. I’m after a cashmere roll neck but don’t want to make an expensive mistake.

idontlikealdi · 03/09/2021 16:59

I've had a couple from joules. I find the style very firmly now though.

Bunny2021 · 03/09/2021 17:02

Woolovers. It’s the softest one I own and hasn’t bobbled and I’ve had it for years. I’ve got ones from John Lewis, Uniqlo, H&M and they’ve all bobbled at some point.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/09/2021 17:02

My Uniqlo one from a couple of years ago is fine.
Unless they’re really awful a year isn’t long enough to judge the quality imo, these are garments you expect to last many years unless you wear them all the time.

What does firmly mean in this context ?
Lightisnotwhite · 03/09/2021 17:16

Frumpy?

I have several boden jumpers that have lasted for years. It gets bad press on MN but I actually find it good for basic stuff - I just ignore all the patterns and buy plain neutral colours.

Uniglo I find cuts SNL, so I recommend you size up.

And I find the white company are expensive but good in the sales.

NameChangeNameShange · 03/09/2021 17:26

SNL??
Small ...

AnnaDyne · 03/09/2021 18:11

I have bought cashmere from Cos, & Other Stories and Arket. All have been good as far as I can tell (unfortunately the moths get them in my house before they have a chance to bobble)

WellTidy · 03/09/2021 18:14

I haven’t bought M&S cashmere since a brand new jumper developed holes on the tummy area after a single day of me wearing it. They refunded without any quibble. This was about three years ago. I was gutted as I loved the jumper! Still a mystery how they appeared - I hadn’t leaned against any worksurface, worn a seat belt, worn a belt, stored it so that it might be in contact with moths …

DGFB · 03/09/2021 18:34

If you’re struggling with moths I find the rentokil moth papers taped inside wardrobe doors invaluable. I’ve not had anything eaten since I started using them

londonmummy1966 · 03/09/2021 18:35

I'd recommend looking at ebay etc to see if there is any preloved cashmere from the better brands like Brora, Austin Reed etc. Otherwise I think Pure is better quality than the others.

DelphiniumBlue · 03/09/2021 18:36

I had a lovely one from Tesco about 6/7 years ago, but it's past it's best now. I wore it probably 4x pw for 3 or 4 winters.

shouldistop · 03/09/2021 18:49

I had one from M&S that was good last winter and dh has had a JL one.

mewkins · 03/09/2021 20:24

I've got quite a few from uniqlo and they are great. They wash really well.

Ticksallboxes · 03/09/2021 21:20

@Bunny2021 Woolovers are such great quality although so far I've only ordered their linen Summer dresses!

Travielkapelka · 03/09/2021 21:22

Easily M&S they’re really great and you can often get in the sale

Lucia574 · 04/09/2021 08:25

M and S are good. I also rate Pure Collection, which you can get online and in some branches of John Lewis. They do have some stores too, eg in York.

Just looking at a Woolovers catalogue now that came through my door today. Looks really good value!

DGFB · 07/09/2021 14:28

I’m just coming back to say having ordered JL, Boden and M&S that the M&S is the thickest and loveliest cashmere so far this year
