Pendant necklace

Hi everyone, it’s my 40th birthday soon and my in laws have kindly given me £200 to buy a necklace (they asked and I said I wanted one). I’d quite like silver with some kind of gold element on it. I’d like a pendant type necklace and It must be good quality because I want to wear it everyday. This also means it can’t be too big or fussy. I’d also prefer an 18 inch chain too. I’ve seen a few I like but I’m being very indecisive and can’t decide what to choose. I don’t really want anything like an animal etc. Are acorns etc are a bit over? Are hearts too young? (I’ll be 40) Maybe I should go for something like a square/disc/cylinder etc. I just don’t know. If you wear a pendant necklace what’s on the end? Thanks everyone.

I'd get a gold initial necklace, like Alexis in Schitts Creek!

flutterby123 · 31/08/2021 14:30

There are some really nice necklaces and pendants here. Great service as well and they do commissions if you don’t see exactly what you would like. I sound like I’m advertising them! I’m not, they’re just local to me and fab.

If you like acorns, I think this is lovely

They have lots of other lovely pendants on their website as well!

Dower & Hall, Amulette

Thanks everyone I’ll have a look. I’ve only really looked a Jeremy Heber so far so it’ll be good to look at other recommendations. I don’t feel strongly about acorns either way really just wasn’t sure it they’d ‘had their time’ iyswim. It doesn’t have to cost £200, that’s just my budget. If it’s less I could get something else too. I want something sort of modern but still classic that won’t date too much.

I would go for something really classic like a locket.

Defiantly41 · 31/08/2021 14:56

Georg Jensen has nice stuff if your taste runs to the modern end of classic , I love the offspring, infinity and hidden heart pendants www.georgjensen.com/en-gb/jewellery/necklaces-and-pendants

My husband bought me this, I wear it every day. It’s nice and weighty so lies nicely. You could add a gold charm, but I wear it plain.

I am older than you ☺️

peachaay · 31/08/2021 15:18

My absolute favourite is the Alex monroe collection, loads of v quirky, beautiful charm necklaces, well within your budget. They have such a wide collection, it’s worth just having a flick through as I’ve often come across things that I would never have thought of but were ‘the perfect thing’ for gifts.
In terms of quality, I haven’t taken mine off for over 6 months and swim every other day with it on, absolutely no tarnishing and it still looks good as new.

ChocolateRiver · 31/08/2021 15:29

Thanks very much all, I haven’t heard of most of these so it’s great to have more options. Just been having a look at Clogau and Shetland Jewellery, there are so many lovely things.

Have you already checked Monica Vinader? you can get the chain separately for example

ChocolateRiver · 31/08/2021 15:42

Yes, I have but I’m not sure what the quality is like. I’m always a bit worried about gold plated jewellery.

I forgot about Wright & Teague - they do lovely quality silver necklaces

Tryingtogetitright · 31/08/2021 16:45

www.oaklandjewellery.com is always worth a look - there are some lovely pieces and the jeweller makes bespoke pieces too.

waltzingparrot · 31/08/2021 16:46

Probably too cheap...

justasking111 · 31/08/2021 17:25

If you have any establishments that sell vintage jewelry go have a browse. Some jewellers do ditto antique shops

justasking111 · 31/08/2021 17:26

I buy chains separately too

SageRosemary · 31/08/2021 20:13

I have this one, has the chain length you want, Sun, Moon & Stars

And some more here by the same designer, they are quite whimsical

LookdeepintotheParka · 31/08/2021 20:28

I'm looking for something similar for my DM and came across Skagen pendant necklaces which I think are nice e.g www.skagen.com/en-gb/products/agnethe-rose-tone-and-mother-of-pearl-short-pendant-necklace/SKJ0997791.html

Loving some of the other suggestions above!

ElspethFlashman · 31/08/2021 20:32

I absolutely love Alan Ardiff. Some of his necklaces have moving parts - there's a gear inside and when your neck moves, the chain moves the gear and bits of the necklace moves!

I have a wee one with a star that moves, it's barely noticeable as it's so wee but I love the idea of it.

ChocolateRiver · 31/08/2021 20:43

So much beautiful jewellery. Thank you so much everyone.
