If you used to be ‘alternative’

What do you wear now?

As a teen / early 20s I liked lots of black, lots of ‘gothic’emo looks. As I got older I obviously moved away from it
But now my look is just blah and doesn’t feel like me at all. I never have an outfit to put on that I actually like or feel great in, just ‘ok’ at best
I’m sick of never feeling good or excited about my outfit, or just feeling like ‘me’

I’m obviously older and a mum, I don’t want to be dressing head to toe ‘goth’ but I don’t know how to find what my slightly more ‘sophisticated’ look may be

DMs are expensive so look out for the sales plus do a payment plan. Join the DM website that way you get an email when sale starts.

@ReluctantEarlyRiser I didn’t realise oxygen did boots I’ve been wearing their sandals forever!

There are loads of barely worn DM's on sites like Ebay and Vinted, they are so uncomfortable to start that a lot of people seem to buy them then hardly wear them before selling on.

Also used to be a bit of a metal head, but more glam rock (Crue, Poison, Cinderella etc) I’m now 50 and live most of the time in skinny jeans, but I spent ages finding the leaked of Ed Hardy jeans with tattoo style etching down one leg etc. My going out somewhere nice look is more classical, plain or subtle dresses but then I rock it up with shoes or long boots with just a little edgy look like a few studs or leather and lace look. You don’t have to go full out change, you could try to focus on 1 thing, handbag, shoes, accessories, leather (style) jacket etc. But as someone else mentioned further up, I do think it’s a case as you get older to buy less, better quality items. Whatever you do though, just be you. X

I went through this very same thing, but feel that I have started to find my own style again in my 40s. There's no 'one stop shop' for the clothes that make me feel great - I pick up basic pieces from the high street then shop online from places like REW, Disburbia, Laundry B for the bits that make it a bit different and a bit more me. Little things like an edgy boot, dark nail varnish or spiky earrings help too. Tartan and tie dye leggings have been a recent hit also!
