I’ll usually get bits from

John Lewis
Marks and Spencer
Mint Velvet
Sometimes, Phase Eight and Next

I’m looking for suggestions for online shopping that I don’t know or are unknown.

Thanks.

I hate the Boden aesthetic, so most definitely not! Grin

MabelSable · 03/09/2021 12:08

And I'm not saying I check who the owners of each brand are, I'm just saying I see no problem if that's something that matters to someone else.

AnnaDyne · 03/09/2021 12:20

Logical or not, I feel the same about Cefinn.

Arrowheart · 03/09/2021 12:32

Matalan

Quick word about Trouva - it's a portal which allows you to shop independents online.
You probably all know about it but ive only recently discovered it!

TheBullfinch · 03/09/2021 22:30

@Shimy

Funny you should say that bullfinch as I bought a sweatshirt from Hush last month and it arrived exactly as you described. It looks tired and hangs shapelessly like something that’s not meant to have been washed on a high temperature but has gone in by mistake.
Exactly.

It's like you've unearthed your husband's old Uni sweatshirt from 15 years ago!

It reminds me of all the faded, boxy, droopy stuff from Poetry.

Just had a look at the clothes on Trouva and ... dear God, it looks like the sale rack at Topshop on steroids.

@Sadik

Going to go back & browse this when I have more time.

51, & most recent purchases have been from:

Going-out clothes Psylo (grown-uppy punk-ish), Forgotten Tribes (first thing bought from there, but will definitely be returning, was very pleased with quality & fit), both of these came from recommendations on here
Then for more day-to-day clothes Rapanui (organic cotton nice quality tops) and Finisterre (again sustainable / organic, good for outdoors clothing with a wee bit more style than some). Have been very pleased with the quality of these over the years.
I also like Urban Outfitters & for nice undies Free People

Just googled Psylo and love the look. Probably not structured enough for me but may get some trousers from them and dress them up for Winter wear. Thanks for the tip.
Sadik · 04/09/2021 12:56

Hope you find some things you like @Gingerwarthog The one thing I would say is that they do come up quite small, & if you're not sure I'd tend to size up a bit.

(I've not had an issue with returns / exchanges when I've needed to do that.)

mamabear715 · 05/09/2021 11:14

I've sat here for ages checking out everyone's fave shops.. I must be seeing something totally different.. either boring plain stuff or fat trousers with the crotch on the floor.. ???
Even T K Maxx (a place I've never shopped) has the 'names', if that's what you're into, but the actual clothes are horrible
Imma gonna stick to jeans & tops and my old dresses & skirts.. anyone else think the same way I do? Anyone?

shallIswim · 06/09/2021 07:57

Well @mamabear715 I'm not sure I recognise your descriptions! Crotches on the floor!? Boden def doesn't have those. They stick to their preppy crops religiously. Not my cuppa but I can see the usefulness in them. And outdoorsy brands like Finisterre are just, well, sensible, as are many of the other brands. And sensible seems to be what you're into.
But each to their own.
I've enjoyed picking up a few new ideas from this thread.

MimosaFields · 06/09/2021 08:47

Everywhere really. I'm 51

Zara
The Outnet
TK maxx
Mango
Anthropology
H&M
Reiss
Ted Baker
Jigsaw

And much more. Every shop has something good.

mamabear715 · 06/09/2021 08:48

@shallIswim yes, some of the more 'out there' sites recommended, sort of harem pants with a dangling crotch! Then there are the plain, time immemorial M&S type crew neck sweaters EVERYWHERE, too boring for words. Leggings, jogging pants etc.. NO, thanks..
Why is there nothing in between? Of course, there are gorgeous clothes on Facebook ads, if I wanted to get ripped off.. surely there are reputable companies who could make similar things? If any of them are reading, please WAKE UP and get on with it! :-)

shallIswim · 06/09/2021 08:52

@mamabear715 I thought perhaps a sagging crotch was a new minopause symptom I shoudl look out for Smile
I'm wondering tho where you get your clothes from. Or do you find it so impossible that you (and this chimes perfectly with the times) stick to what's already in your wardrobe?

mamabear715 · 06/09/2021 09:11

@shallIswim Oh, don't get me started on ageing bods, being apple shaped, & trying to disguise c section 'pouch', lol..
I do actually stick to a lot of clothes I already have.. I bought lots a few years ago when everything seemed well cut & pretty, for want of a better word. I was so pleased, when all that was in the shops were the HUGE prairie dresses.. my american friends bought them, plaited their hair, grabbed a pitchfork and a solemn expression and got their husbands to take photos and posted them on social media.. ;-) hysterical!
Other than my oldie stuff, it depends where I am.. busy girl.. might grab a shirt from George at Asda or F&F in Tesco, if anything catches my eye in Next as I zoom by.. I used to buy much more expensive clothes & still will if anything catches my eye, but I go out much less than I did, so unless something is going to stand the test of time langishing in the wardrobe waiting for an 'occasion', it's usually the cheaper ranges, grabbed on the hoof.
My day to day clothes.. practical (stretch!) jeans, straight or bootcut, don't mind..long shirt to cover lumps & bumps. Hot days, tops & short skirts (denim, bought years ago, & now so soft I could sleep in them!)

I don't need red carpet clothes, just something in between & different, you know? Smarter but not boring.. Already got dresses that I barely wear, but just sent for a jacket to wear over them that might update them a bit..
