I’ll usually get bits from

John Lewis
Marks and Spencer
Mint Velvet
Sometimes, Phase Eight and Next

I’m looking for suggestions for online shopping that I don’t know or are unknown.

Thanks.

Did Samantha Cameron call the referendum?

That wasn’t my argument.

If money earned by one party in a marriage does not directly or indirectly benefit the other party - I’ve been getting MN wrong for a decade.

But what does it matter? I’m allowed not to buy from a brand if I choose not to.

GreenLeafs · 02/09/2021 16:37

Jigsaw (sales)
Whistles (sales)
Reiss (sales mind!)
Cos (sales)
Hobbs (sales)
White stuff
Rapanui

AnnieSnap · 02/09/2021 16:39

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow

Massimo Dutti Jigsaw Cos John Lewis Brora in sale (though quality inconsistent) Cefinn for workwear - not cheap ( to put it mildly) but mainly washable, so no dry-cleaning costs. Toast

Hush very occasionally because a lot of their stuff falls apart after 5 minutes.

God knows, I'm not fashionable, but I draw the line at Joules and Seasalt - both very ageing IMO.

On average Seasalt is frumpy, but there are some little gems in there. I have never come across a casual, waterproof, windproof coat that comes close to the quality if theirs (and I’m a fashionable 62-year-old) and their socks are also the best!

Of course you are.

Not buying from a woman because you don't like her husband is a dick move, but one you are fully entitled to make.

Next or Tesco

Gonnagetgoing · 02/09/2021 16:55

@Gingerwarthog

Agree with poster who said that M and S has upped their game recently. Three generations of my family got stuff from there last week - a coat for my Mum, skirt for me and rather fabulous leather/ sheepskin jacket for DD.
definitely and not before time too!

However, last year I got a gorgeous checked shirt dress with pleated skirt (sold out everywhere) in Primark which saleswoman told me there she'd seen very similar for much more in M&S - I checked and it was true!

I do have a few bits from the past (Zebra print fabric trainers) from M&S which I love.

Recently I got a pointelle black short sleeved knit jumper from there and lovely green cami knicker/vest set (Autograph) both from there which are both gorgeous.

Jigsaw (sales) Whistles (sales) Reiss (sales mind!) Cos (sales) Hobbs (sales) White stuff Rapanui
I've found Jigsaw, Reiss and Hobbs not great in the past few years. My local Jigsaw closed both its shops too.

Whistles I do like but not the synthetic fabrics but agree you can get bargains in sales. Older family relative got the most amazing checked pale winter wool coat in Whistles 2-3 years ago not in sale but lovely.

If you're in London I think St Christopher's Place but passage going towards Wigmore Street they have a great little Whistles which downstairs has great sales rails, have picked up a few gems there over the years including their old style black bags with metalwork on.

Cos I like and don't like but it doesn't always suit me. Suits SIL far more.

Never heard of Rapanui and just don't like White Stuff.

GreenLeafs · 02/09/2021 17:47

@Gonnagetgoing Thanks for the tip about Whistles!
I buy specific things from all those stores. I've found Jigsaw good for trousers and the odd top, Reiss has excellent smart coats and trousers, COS - Sweatshirts of fabulous quality, Hobbs -Dresses fit me amazingly! so between all of them I've found good quality at great prices. Surprised you don't like White stuff, its a bit frumpy but they have fantastic cotton cardigans that retain their shape in and out of the washng machine. Rapanui for the environmentally conscious whilst also getting good quality organic cotton stuff.

TheBullfinch · 02/09/2021 21:24

I cant believe all the love for HUSH. The last two tops I ordered (last week) were massive, ripped, faded and so badly cut I thought I'd opened an E-bay parcel by accident.

Shimy · 03/09/2021 00:13

Funny you should say that bullfinch as I bought a sweatshirt from Hush last month and it arrived exactly as you described. It looks tired and hangs shapelessly like something that’s not meant to have been washed on a high temperature but has gone in by mistake.

LizziesTwin · 03/09/2021 05:32

I sent back all the t-shirts I ordered from Hush bar one in the spring & haven’t ordered anything this autumn. I rate their denim shorts but that’s all. I started buying their pajamas when they first launched so I’ve been a customer for years & years.

cestunestilo · 03/09/2021 05:36

Wow you lot are amazing. I just wander around the shops till I see something I like and I buy it , no clue of the shop names .

Edmontine · 03/09/2021 07:14

Do you enjoy shopping, cestunestilo?

How do you manage to avoid knowing which shop you’re in? And how do you build up any knowledge of which places are reliable, or fun or exciting to buy from?

Do you shop locally, on a High St, or drive to a huge shopping centre?

Apologies for questions - 95% of my clothes purchasing is online, so there’s very little scope for random wandering in and out.

You don't know the name of the shops you buy from?
Gonnagetgoing · 03/09/2021 09:12

I kind of get what cestunestilo means - she buys from independent shops I think!

Or else she buys from Next, Primark, Chanel etc and doesn't realise she's shopped there...

Bryonyshcmyony · 03/09/2021 09:16

I buy from independent shops and I know what they are called
Also they are on my bank statement tbh unless checking that is terribly boring

Sadik · 03/09/2021 10:36

Going to go back & browse this when I have more time.

51, & most recent purchases have been from:

Going-out clothes Psylo (grown-uppy punk-ish), Forgotten Tribes (first thing bought from there, but will definitely be returning, was very pleased with quality & fit), both of these came from recommendations on here
Then for more day-to-day clothes Rapanui (organic cotton nice quality tops) and Finisterre (again sustainable / organic, good for outdoors clothing with a wee bit more style than some). Have been very pleased with the quality of these over the years.
I also like Urban Outfitters & for nice undies Free People

Sadik · 03/09/2021 10:38

To be clear, I will be a return visitor to Forgotten Tribes, I didn't return the purchase. Just can't quite justify more than one summer party outfit given Welsh weather!

I think the other poster meant she either doesn't know what the independent shop is called or what brands they stock.

I know e.g. one particular boutique shop stocks certain brands like Selected Femme, Vila and a few French brands and another one stocks Italian brands and Melly jeans etc.

I quite like sometimes Numph, Part Two and Oska, B Young and St Tropez. All depends exactly what it is I'm buying.

MabelSable · 03/09/2021 11:34

Not buying from a woman because you don't like her husband is a dick move, but one you are fully entitled to make.

Why is it a dick move? Confused The pp presumably thinks the Camerons have acquired more than enough £££££ and she doesn't want to contribute to their nest shepherd's hut.

Didn't they also build a stupid duck house too?
ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 03/09/2021 11:50

Most recently, and generally only in the sales:
Baujken
M & S
Boden
Weird Fish - not my usual haunt but picked up some wonderful shorts for the beach in the sales
Next - mostly for other brands
John Lewis
Uniqlo - definitely a favourite

Gonnagetgoing · 03/09/2021 11:50

another brand I like for the odd top and their jumpsuit is Free People, but mostly sales.

Presumably you don't buy from Biden either - a multi millionaire friend of Daves plus hunts every weekend in the season
