I am wearing this dress for an event at the end of August and I’m totally stuck for ideas for shoes and bag especially. Please help!

My biggest problem is shoes - I have very wide feet, the top part of my foot is very steep and I have big ankles so ankle straps are out, as is anything with very high heels or dainty looking. Most nice shoes from places like Dune will not fit me.

Some bag ideas would be great too, the dress has a lot going on so I was thinking something relatively plain but I’m open to ideas.

Thank you 😀

My first thought is a pair of nude sandals, as dainty as possible, and a matching nude bag.

itcouldhave · 16/08/2021 20:06

It’s not that I hate the idea of dainty nude sandals, but I’m overweight and I worry that a) I won’t be able to get dainty nude sandals to fit my huge feet, and b) if I do, I’ll look like a hippo in ballet shoes.

I agree with nude sandals but I don't think they need to be dainty at all given the dress is nice and bright. Controversially I would opt for a black bag to pick out the detail in the dress. Black sandals would go well though too but I'd probably opt for gladiator style to give this a more casual look and that's not what I think you're after?

You will not look like a hippo at all! The joy of nude is that it will lengthen your legs and not draw attention to your feet. It's a beautiful dress and I'm sure you will look fab. I am not a sandal fan as they tend to rub so my advice would be get a good quality wide fitting pair.
BeaLola · 16/08/2021 20:12

I was thinking black clutch bag

For shoes would any of the M&S wide fit work ?

What is the event & budget ?

"Women's Plus Size Shoes | Evans" www.evans.co.uk/shoes?p=2

There's amazing black courts on here if you could handle the heel and the wedges are also lovely. You willpower wonderful.

What about something like this? They come in black and nude. www.newlook.com/uk/womens/footwear/shoes/wide-fit-cream-patent-bow-ballet-pumps/p/693780414

Those are great! I’m not sure about flats with the dress though.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 16/08/2021 20:57

I wouldn't normally recommend flats either, but thought you didn't want a heel. What about these? The chunkier geek will balance you out if you've got larger calves and legs. No straps either.

*chunkier heel

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 16/08/2021 21:10

Block healed mules are big at the moment (small heel too) and I’m buying into it. I can’t wear an ankle strap either and assumed I needed a high heel to create the illusion of slimmer ankles but this style of shoe also works even with a low heal.
This style if not this colour www.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-wide-fit-hosta-weave-mid-heeled-mules-in-blue/prd/22912939?colourwayid=60435968&cid=19886 although I could see this colour working weirdly.

Lots of options out there with more foot coverage or different heal etc

Lovely dress Op. I’d probably go for a wedge possibly in a bright contrasting colour like orange . Not sure if the link will work as i’ve not done one before but I like these Gabor ones . They also look amazing in the black .I also have a high instep so understand how difficult it can be to get a comfortable fit but I think if the buckle is adjustable these may work . I’d probably choose a bag to match the shoes

lovely dress.
Where is it from?

Anoisagusaris · 16/08/2021 21:28

I don’t think nude would go with that dress. I’d go with black.

TDMN · 16/08/2021 21:51

Highly recommend New Look for wide feet and chunky ankles - they've also re-done their insoles over the last couple of years so are really comfy. Plus they've always got a good chunky heel (if you filter for wide fit and then style: block heel the less high ones are excellent) and you can often find New Look shoes on Depop etc.
I'd go with nude or metallic or black or theres even a leopard print pair which might look cool if you went for a plain bag? Depends on your style! If you look closely at the ankle straps they offer you can see that a few of them hit slightly lower on the ankle than others (if you look at the leopard print pair you will see what i mean)

Quitelikeacatslife · 16/08/2021 22:08

I'm totally chunky ankled and no to flats no to ankle straps and no to kitten/dainty heels.

Yes to wedge/platform sandals with lower fronts.
My go to for smart is a metallic version on these

Or block heel sandals /shoes would be fine too ,

These are nice www.pavers.co.uk/products/zeus-slingback-heeled-sandals-gab29588-314-676

Kjr33 · 16/08/2021 22:15

I think black shoes rather than nude would look better and the new look suggestions are nice, I think a structured handbag in dark green or black would be good as the dress is more floaty.

Kjr33 · 16/08/2021 22:15

@Quitelikeacatslife those Clark’s ones are nice

Have you looked at Sargasso and Grey ? www.instagram.com/sargassoandgrey/shop

Quitelikeacatslife · 16/08/2021 22:23

I'm just ordering them Grinonly went on to look for you, absolute bargain

headintheproverbial · 16/08/2021 22:41

Espadrilles / nude wedges?

ShiningGonnaShine · 16/08/2021 22:56

I'd wear pink shoes and a red bag with that dress.

itcouldhave · 17/08/2021 09:07
