Do you have a “wash & go” hair cut?

I’m really fed up with my hair. I hate having to style it or do anything to it most days. I just wash it, run a comb through it and go. It air dries 9/10 days unless I am meeting a friend for lunch and doing make up etc. Until a couple of months ago it was shoulder blade length and I was just scraping it back into a ponytail or bun. It didn’t suit me and just liked awful. So I got it chopped to how it is now and I think it’s even worse. (Photos attached- washed it last night and just went to bed. Didn’t even brush it. Ran a brush through this morning) When blow dried and straightened it looks lovely. There is a full fringe and the cut is quite blunt across the bottom. But I have no idea what I need to do to make it look nice when dried naturally. I think the layers age me. Do I need to grow them out and have it cut all one length at chin length? Or do I need more layers? Confused Or do I need to get it cut very short? I really would love to look good with a wash and go cut. Alternatively does anyone have any recommendations for low maintenance styles and products?

Mine is low maintenance, more by luck than design though.

It’s curly. In the morning, I bend forward and shake my head and fluff(?) it up with my fingers. That’s it.

A wash and go hairstyle will depend on multiple factors, the most important of which is the hairdresser and you need to work at building a relationship with them. You have lovely wavy hair in good condition so all you need to find a good hairdresser who will cut your hair in a style that will suit your hair so it becomes a wash and go cut. For every person that will be a different cut. Ask your friends with good hair where they get their hair cut, ask women in the street with good hair where they get theirs cut. Get an appointment with a recommended hairdresser and tell them you basically want to keep the overall length but it needs shaping into a style. See how well it holds its shape over the next 6 weeks (best hairdresser I ever had cut my hair so well it could cope with one cut by a worse hairdresser before it lost its shape, he always said you get the best haircut by working with the hair). Get it cut again after 6 weeks by the same stylist, say what you liked and didn't like over the last 6 weeks, see how well they change the cut to respond to that. Is it better after the next 6 weeks? If so, on their third or fourth cut then if you are happy with what they have done then say 'I'm thinking about a change of style, I'm lazy and don't want to have to style it every day so want something that works with its natural texture, what would you suggest?' Then get your new haircut.

We can all tell you which haircut we found the easiest but we don't have your hair. But come back once it's cut to show us!

@borntobequiet

why is that?

It will inevitably look weird in the morning if you sleep on it, especially if you don’t comb it first. My hair is so wash and go that it doesn’t matter if I forget a comb or brush when I go to the gym, I just rinse it, semi-dry with dryer and then finger dry. But if I go to bed with wet hair it sticks out all over the place in the morning.

thanks @borntobequiet

I often go to bed with my hair wet or damp and don't have any issues.
Maybe it's to do with cut & length or how thick hair is?
mine's so thick I break a lot hairbands...and there are no bits to stick out as it's sort of layered, length past shoulder blades.

Mine is long with a slight wave in it and I don’t need to blow dry or style it. I can’t wear it above my shoulders as it just sticks out. Has a long pixie cut years ago but it’s gotten wavier after having kids so don’t think that would work now. Plus my face is much fatter now!

Not sure about cut but a few low lights to break up the look would be really good.
