Do you have a “wash & go” hair cut?

I’m really fed up with my hair. I hate having to style it or do anything to it most days. I just wash it, run a comb through it and go. It air dries 9/10 days unless I am meeting a friend for lunch and doing make up etc. Until a couple of months ago it was shoulder blade length and I was just scraping it back into a ponytail or bun. It didn’t suit me and just liked awful. So I got it chopped to how it is now and I think it’s even worse. (Photos attached- washed it last night and just went to bed. Didn’t even brush it. Ran a brush through this morning) When blow dried and straightened it looks lovely. There is a full fringe and the cut is quite blunt across the bottom. But I have no idea what I need to do to make it look nice when dried naturally. I think the layers age me. Do I need to grow them out and have it cut all one length at chin length? Or do I need more layers? Confused Or do I need to get it cut very short? I really would love to look good with a wash and go cut. Alternatively does anyone have any recommendations for low maintenance styles and products?

I wish I was brave enough to have one of these crops, or the one with the undercut 🤩

@TigersandTeddybears

I would either go shorter, like a crop or pixie cut, or all one length.
Yep. I agree. How do I decide? Grin

Lazygirl with layers here too -
Don't air dry it - try turning your head upside down and rough dry it to 80-90% instead getting volume at the roots with your fingers and flipping the front/fringe back and forth

@MotionActivatedDog

Do you know what face shape you have and do you like your ears? Or your neckline? How much curl do you have in your hair and do you have any hair growth patterns or thinner areas? Like a cows lick, nape whorl, widows peak or double crown?

I have a longish pixie and it’s the best hair choice I have ever made. It was shoulder blade length before and I had it all chopped off into a pixie spontaneously. I just got in from work one night and thought “fuck it, it’s coming off.” It was annoying me, looked awful and I had been thinking about it for sometime so I just went into town and went round all the salons until one said they would do it there and then. Then off it came and it felt so good. I don’t have any regrets about it. I love my short hair now. A good 16-17 inches was chopped off in a plait which I donated to the Little Princess Trust

My hair is so easy to manage now. Just jump in the shower in the morning and I am ready in 10 minutes. I would say just go for it with a pixie.

I think your hair looks fine and I would just let it grow out.

I currently have long hair which I just wash and go. It dries really quickly. Other haircuts just needed styling which did my head in. I've had all sorts of hairstyles over the years but long hair is the easiest by far.

I do plait my hair a lot and can do french braids on myself.

Mandalay246 · 13/08/2021 05:40

I think your hair looks fine OP, but agree that a pixie is a fabulous wash and go style. I've had short hair for many years, but still had to fuss around and was never satisfied with it until I had it all cut off. So simple to deal with.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 13/08/2021 05:49

I've long and short hair and it's just below shoulder length now, which is the lowest maintenance length for me. It looks all one length but I do have some very long layers in it. I can wash and go if I want it wavy, otherwise I straighten it. When I have it short I can never wash and go though as it is too wavy.

You have lovely hair, OP, I'd just grow it a bit longer, with longer layers, so that it gives it more movement and body, and have it cut regularly.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 13/08/2021 05:55

Mine looks a bit like this according to whether I straighten it or just leave it to dry naturally.

@HarebrightCedarmoon that's gorgeous hair.

Imicola · 13/08/2021 06:33

Short pixie here, just wash, comb and go. I find it always looks smart and styled even though i do nothing to it, compared to when my hair is longer and needs actual work to look good.

The longer styles will depend on your hair type though... if you have waves or off your hair dries straight. Mine has odd waves which basically means it needs to be blow dried to look decent if anything longer.

Total hair envy! I would love your hair, both style and colour.
dudsville · 13/08/2021 06:43

Your hair looks great, healthy, and it looks styled.

FatAnkles · 13/08/2021 06:48

You have wavy hair like mine. I'm currently sporting a chin length bob (which I hate) but I change my hair constantly because I'm never happy and a bit lazy too. I don't think a long pixie would work (been there, done that) because you will need to do a bit of styling to keep it nice, and I couldn't be arsed to do that!

DeadButDelicious · 13/08/2021 06:57

I have a number 3 undercut with long shoulder blade length hair on top. It's getting right on my wick. Long hair is making me look drawn and old these days, and I am sick to death of bobbles. Today I am going to get this, (not blonde/grey my hair is dyed jet black).

I can't wait! I've had variations of this style before and I really like it.

The undercut is great, just hairdryer the top and go.

Literally 5 minutes of blowing the hair forward and that’s it

Best cut I’ve ever had

MiddleParking · 13/08/2021 07:05

Not to be negative but I think people either have wash and go hair or they don’t, rather than having a wash and go haircut. Obviously you can wash and go with any haircut but you might not like how it looks (I actually think yours looks lovely because it’s so healthy but seems you disagree!) I know for a fact there’s no haircut that would make my hair acceptably wash and go!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 13/08/2021 07:12

I cut my own hair & DD's, same method.
no set intervals, I cut it when it feels too long.
wash & go
here are photos of last time I did hers.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 13/08/2021 07:16

photos disappeared. I'll try again

Don’t go to bed with wet hair.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 13/08/2021 07:24

@borntobequiet

Don’t go to bed with wet hair.
why is that?
HarebrightCedarmoon · 13/08/2021 07:28

I do but only when it's a really warm night.

ivykaty44 · 13/08/2021 07:53

It takes me 10 minutes to shower wash my hair and literally just blow it forward with the dryer and get dressed.

borntobequiet · 13/08/2021 08:22

why is that?

It will inevitably look weird in the morning if you sleep on it, especially if you don’t comb it first. My hair is so wash and go that it doesn’t matter if I forget a comb or brush when I go to the gym, I just rinse it, semi-dry with dryer and then finger dry. But if I go to bed with wet hair it sticks out all over the place in the morning.

MotionActivatedDog · 13/08/2021 09:00

Thank you everyone. I’m still so undecided. When I had it cut like it is now from long (about 6 weeks ago) I asked the hair dresser to cut for the wave so I could just wash and go but I really wasn’t happy with the result so I think I’ll have to try a new hairdresser.

Loving these photos!
