Which dress? (Photos)

Further to an earlier thread with great advice, I've settled on the Hobbs Twitchell dress style to go to Henley regatta at the weekend. Only thing is, there are two fabric patterns available and I like both!

(Brief background is I've recently lost weight, and whilst two sizes smaller than I was, still not entirely body confidant and don't know what's most flattering to buy now. I left it a bit late to sort something out, so whilst I probably could have done better with more time, this is where I'm at.)

Which fabric would you go for? I'm leaning towards the bolder one as I feel it's more flattering but DH literally went 'gosh it's bold' which makes me think it's a bit too much. I'm more of a shrinking violet so it might be a bit too 'in your face'.

Also shoes. I want to wear the ones in the pic as it's standing up on grass nearly all day and I don't have any other colour shoes with block heels. If I went for the bolder colour dress, could I wear those shoes? Again I know not ideal but I don't have any others apart from flats.

Please be gentle, I'm exposing myself to the world here with photos!

(And sorry for the crappy camera angle, I was having to body block the baby from crawling round the stair gate).

First, don't like that shade of mustard as I don't think it flatters anyone.

RunnerDown · 09/08/2021 16:54

I think the leafy one is more flattering and definitely prefer it. But they both look good , and the second one doesn’t look bold to me

ActonSquirrel · 09/08/2021 16:55

OK I may have changed my mind ... I looked at the website as I absolutely love hobbs Blush

The first one isn't black it is blue. In which case I like it just as much as the other. They're both nice but I think the first one is now just as nice as it is blue.

The second one is called French navy got the colour and I like it a lot more now.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 09/08/2021 17:00

@jerrywesterby

The second one is far classier! First one looks like something you could buy in Sainsbury's
Agree.

I think wavy is much more flattering and you look a dress size smaller ( not that that should matter but hey-ho).

ActonSquirrel · 09/08/2021 17:01

I still say the second one. First one blue or black is a bit supermarket / bank/ air hostess uniform.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 17:01

First - it looks so flattering on you. I'm not find of the print of the second.

DGFB · 09/08/2021 17:03

First one suits you the best, you look great in it. I love Hobbs dresses

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/08/2021 17:06

I like the wavy one better, but it looks a little bit big on the top half on you. It could just be the camera angle, though!

Finzi · 09/08/2021 17:07

I vote Leafy!

stopringingme · 09/08/2021 17:13

Wavy gets my vote.

ADress · 09/08/2021 17:13

How did you know I normally buy clothes in Sainsbury's Grin

Yes, sorry about the angles and lighting. If I stand front on to the mirror I end up half behind the stair gate Confused.

The fit should be identical on both. The darkest colour on both is navy.

Thank for the input, very helpful.

Leafy certainly feels like the safe option. I guess I'm asking which I look 'best' in which to me is most flattering and a nice dress. Appreciate it's probably hard to tell with such crappy photos. I'll try them on again later.

I like leafy the best OP

Thatswhatmamasaid · 09/08/2021 17:19

Team leafy here Grin

Redcrayons · 09/08/2021 17:20

Leafy, only because I don’t like mustard colour. If it was pink or red I’d be all over it.

Wishingwell75 · 09/08/2021 17:20

Well for starters you could wear those shoes with almost anything so if they're also comfy that's perfect!
Next, both dresses look great on you - very helpful I know!😁
If you don't mind me saying you have very lovely shaped calves so this type of hemline is flattering. Which do you consider the bolder print? I imagine you mean the second one, do you? That's actually the one I like the most but at the end of the day I'd go for the one that feels right - because they both look good!
In terms of DH's comments, he probably needs a bit of time to get used to you wearing different things and his eyes need to adjust to different prints. I know it's a terribly sexist thing to say but a LOT of men don't really have a clue - I once read most men are approximately 2 years behind fashion and my DH said "well I must be 5 years behind then!"
Have a lovely day - wear a hat if it's going to be sunny and congrats on the fabulous weight loss!

Feedingthebirds1 · 09/08/2021 17:28

Leafy looks like it's a better fit on top, and although I've only got your arms to go on (obvs no face!) seems to suit your colouring better.

Feedingthebirds1 · 09/08/2021 17:31

PS Wavy looks very creased. That may be because it's only just come out of the packaging, but if it's material that creases easily it won't show nearly as much on leafy.

MaMelon · 09/08/2021 17:33

I love them both but leafy looks better on you I think

ShanghaiDiva · 09/08/2021 17:34

Another vote for leafy.
You look great!

pourmeanotherglass · 09/08/2021 17:39

Leafy

MrsPsmalls · 09/08/2021 17:39

I prefer wavy mustard. I think the first one looks very formal (dated) verging on prim. Sorry. I would feel much more relaxed in the mustard.

FinalNameChange · 09/08/2021 17:39

Yet another vote for "Leafy". Much more flattering.

GameSetMatch · 09/08/2021 17:48

Definitely the mustard one! The other look a bit too big, the mustard one gives you a lovely small waist.

BoxHedge · 09/08/2021 17:55

The first leafy one fits you like a glove and is more flattering. They both look nice though.
