Which dress? (Photos)

Further to an earlier thread with great advice, I've settled on the Hobbs Twitchell dress style to go to Henley regatta at the weekend. Only thing is, there are two fabric patterns available and I like both!

(Brief background is I've recently lost weight, and whilst two sizes smaller than I was, still not entirely body confidant and don't know what's most flattering to buy now. I left it a bit late to sort something out, so whilst I probably could have done better with more time, this is where I'm at.)

Which fabric would you go for? I'm leaning towards the bolder one as I feel it's more flattering but DH literally went 'gosh it's bold' which makes me think it's a bit too much. I'm more of a shrinking violet so it might be a bit too 'in your face'.

Also shoes. I want to wear the ones in the pic as it's standing up on grass nearly all day and I don't have any other colour shoes with block heels. If I went for the bolder colour dress, could I wear those shoes? Again I know not ideal but I don't have any others apart from flats.

Please be gentle, I'm exposing myself to the world here with photos!

(And sorry for the crappy camera angle, I was having to body block the baby from crawling round the stair gate).

Leafy and the shoes are fine, you look great well done on the weight loss

ThePoetsWife · 09/08/2021 18:00

The 2nd one - it suits your skin tone way better and it flatters your figure too

ThePoetsWife · 09/08/2021 18:02

And the leafy one is a bit boring and frumpy compared with wavy.

Tina221 · 09/08/2021 18:05

They both look lovely. I prefer the leafy one

diddlediddle · 09/08/2021 18:06

The black and white one is more classic and timeless. The wavy one just screams middle aged frump to me.

(Well done on the weight loss, when you have time I think you could get a personal shopper to help you discover your new style as I think you can definitely do better than these)

IsThePopeCatholic · 09/08/2021 18:07

Leafy. I don’t like the other one.

Suzysunflower · 09/08/2021 18:07

Just a thought - Could you go as Leafy and then half time have a costume change and wear Wavy?

If that's not possible, Leafy.

JaninaDuszejko · 09/08/2021 18:07

Wavy is far better. Bold is good, the leafy one is a safe and boring choice.

Shoes are good, nice and neutral and will make your legs look longer which is always nice.

They are £90 each!

You have nice boobs, and a high neckline doesn't look nice on many people. I'd say black and white style with a nice v neck

LamaRama · 09/08/2021 18:11

Well done on your weight loss! Both dresses look great on you. I think the wavy one is a little more fresh in its pattern. I see you have shoes but it would look so nice with a pair of black espadrille type wedges. Have fun

KittenKong · 09/08/2021 18:13

Which did you go for in the end? I like the leafy one.

Fingermoose · 09/08/2021 18:13

Leafy is my favourite.

It's about 50/50 in this thread, so see which comments you agree with here and go with your gut.

Starbonnet123 · 09/08/2021 18:15

I prefer the first one , the bolder one doesn't seem to fit you as well as the black and white one 😁

Catlover77 · 09/08/2021 18:19

The wavy one doesn’t appear to fit well across your chest. The shoes are neutral so look fine (but probably better with leafy).

RuthW · 09/08/2021 18:24

I like wavy

Passmethefrazzles · 09/08/2021 18:24

Leafy. 100%

feelingfree17 · 09/08/2021 18:25

Definitely Leafy

Suzysunflower · 09/08/2021 18:31

@actionsquirrel yes but how do you quantify the impact of a costume change just like aristos and s'lebs? Priceless, my friend, priceless.

(PS I wasn't entirely serious)

Unsure33 · 09/08/2021 18:38

Leafy .

I know you weren't!

It would be indeed cool to have a costume change Grin

ADress · 09/08/2021 18:50

I think I'd have to decline anything which required an outfit change. Finding one is hard enough! God the thought is bringing me out in cold sweats.

I will try and get better pics as wavy does fit the same as leafy.

And both are navy at the darkest points, not black.

Pp mentioned colouring. I am very fair, so poss the leafy with more white is less of a contrast to my skin (in a good way).

And I like the idea of a personal shopper in future. I'm going back to work from mat leave just before Christmas so that's a whole other clothing drama I'll have to deal with.

The leafy one also here

cheesecrackerz · 09/08/2021 18:57

I love the wavy one!

KaleJuicer · 09/08/2021 18:58

Leafy. Any scope or budget to get black espadrille wedges as suggested above?
