October wedding guest outfit advice

We are going to a wedding in early October and l am struggling about what to wear. I am thinking navy would be nice and maybe one of these dresses? I am 5'7, size 10-12, with dodgy stomach but good legs, long dark hair, olive skin and green eyes. I was considering some of these dresses with maybe nude shoes, bag and wrap / stole? I would love a fur wrap but probably it will be too warm for that and l will look silly! Anyone got any other suggestions?

Or this one

First one is a bit sombre - I would wear that to work or a funeral tbh

Second is prettier. Do you definitely want a plain dress? Are you inside/outside?

EL8888 · 08/08/2021 19:25

@jackstini see that was my worry, they were a big somber / plain? It will be mainly inside l think, the wedding starts at 4.30pm and it’s October. So by the time they are married then it will be fairly dark l think?

I like 2 OP and think you will be able to accessorise!

EL8888 · 08/08/2021 19:27

I do like 3 and 4. Thanks for the suggestions

I actually love your first dress!
With some colour on the accessories it should look good.
Not sure the detail will show in darker environments. That is what I like. The details.

EL8888 · 09/08/2021 11:49

@NotSoLongGoodbye thanks. Do you think nude accessories would work? How about a shrug / cardigan / wrap?

OP posts:
EL8888 · 09/08/2021 11:52

@MushMonster l get what you mean. The detail is what drew me in with it. True would the detail shine through on an October evening.

What colour accessories would you go for?

I’m also quite tempted by pin.it/3t8eCzq
But is it too staid? I’m 40 -just realised l never mentioned that

OP posts:
Flyinggeese1 · 11/08/2021 18:07

Hi OP honestly yes a bit staid and more like office wear, not great for dancing etc.

Of all of these I’d say 2 is the nicest, and has most potential to be dressed up really nicely with heels and a great clutch bag etc.

Are you set on navy?

zucchinieggplant · 11/08/2021 18:14

Sunset in Oct and is usually around 6ish so it won't be all that dark yet. Something to bear in mind is weather can be very variable at this time of year. I was married in early Oct and it ended up being the hottest day of the year that year! The year before we had newsworthy rain storms and flooding on the same date.
If going with Navy I'd accessorise with a pop of colour - bright pink heels would be great!

AnyFucker · 11/08/2021 18:15

This is a nice navy one with a twist here

Cookiebox · 11/08/2021 20:39

Sorry your choices look a little sad and miserable, maybe it's the set up of how the photos are taken.

How about Hobbs, good quality and lovely dresses.

Being tall with olive skin this would suit you

If you must insist on black

I really like no.2. A friend of mine wore navy to an early spring wedding, and she added a big hot pink flower corsage, and hot pink heels, and she looked amazing. Loads of corsages on Etsy/Not on the High Street.

OhTheTastyNuts · 11/08/2021 22:19

I love the Ted Baker one linked by PP. I wish I had an occasion to wear it!

Defiantly41 · 11/08/2021 22:43

I think the second one is a slightly weird mix of a summery fabric and wintry colour.

The Ted Baker one is lovely.

I actually like the first dress, maybe with a complementary colour jacket like this www.nancymac.co.uk/products/lilliana-tea-jacket-in-celeste-blue-silk-velvet-1

EL8888 · 12/08/2021 10:38

@Flyinggeese1 l was thinking navy as l have my eye on a blush leather cross bag that could work for the wedding and afterwards. Plus trying to ease myself away from black

OP posts:
EL8888 · 12/08/2021 10:50

@zucchinieggplant yes, lm conscious the weather could really go either way really. I have done some Googling and sunset is 630pm for the wedding location

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/08/2021 10:54

I wore red and plum before in October with gold/copper shoes. Both outfits were very warm looking.

Sooverthemill · 12/08/2021 10:54

What is your budget? You could hire a dress from by rotation or hurr? Or look at Wyse London if you have a bigger budget. They have some beautiful dresses. Some of which will be on the hire sites. Baukjen also hire as do Selfridges

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/08/2021 10:55

Two separate weddings I mean Grin
