Which is more classic for a simple engagement ring?

I think it really depends your skin and whether you are cool or warm toned.

Go for the colour that matches most of the rest of your jewelry. I wear silver stuff, so have platinum rings.
A friend wears gold by preference, and chose gold rings.
It will look more classic if it matches.

Both are beautiful. I think it depends on your skin tone as to what looks best.
I do really like platinum with coloured stones - just my preference though.

Are you talking about a diamond? A jeweller once told me that a stone with a lower quality colour looks better in yellow gold - whereas you’d set a tip top one in platinum. But generally I think it’s a matter of personal preference.

Thanks everyone! It is a diamond and I think a good quality one! I don't wear any other jewellery though, not even earrings or a watch!

Whichever you prefer!

Work out your skin tone. If it’s warm then yellow gold will look best. If it’s cool then you want white gold or platinum.

Also consider what you want your wedding ring to be made of if you plan on wearing both together. They should match to avoid excessive wear on the softer metal.

I think the platinum looks really nice against your skin. But the gold is nice too! Just choose the one you like best because it's you that needs to wear it and for a long time.

Platinum is slightly more hard wearing so claws (the bits that hold the diamond) will possibly last a bit longer, and is better if you have allergies because its a purer metal (assuming the gold one is 9ct or 18ct)

I like white gold platinum if I could afford it
My earrings , watch and necklace are all white gold so a ring would be the same for me
If you like yellow gold then go for that .. looks like both suit you .. lucky girl !

Platinum is actually more affordable than white gold at the moment! It's around £20/g cheaper!
