Ha, I have never changed my name - I only really post here or on the cat forum. Sometimes I chip in on a trending thread but like one tend to be pretty vague and am always mindful it’s an open site.

Dry eyes here too. In work I would use my laptop for around an hour a day, now it is 9-5. I wear contact lenses and apparently you blink less staring at a screen?

SOTD Diptyque Eau Duelle. It is so chilly here today, and grey.

Yes that's what my optician said @Judystilldreamsofhorses I spend FAR too long on screens/reading so only myself to blame I guess
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/08/2021 10:08

SOTD MMM Whispers in the Library.

@Artdecolover I read on Kindle, use my iPad for pootling around the internet, then am on a laptop 9 - 5. It's not great. I went to the optician last year thinking I needed a new prescription but apparently my vision is fine, my eyes are just screen-sore. I did request a monitor from work but I really don't want to have it set up at the kitchen table permanently, plus I'd be scared the cat knocked it over. At least I can shut my laptop at the end of the day and put it away. (monitor is in the hall cupboard...)

madamceladon · 20/08/2021 10:54

SOTD roger er gallet Bois d'orange.
It's really good for a cheaper brand.
Nicely woody and a strong orange, not sickly sweet.
My interview went well, I have a second next week!

Artdecolover · 20/08/2021 11:40

@Judystilldreamsofhorses sounds familiar! I spend far too long on screens.

@madamceladon well done! Good luck for round 2!

Sotd 4160 Shazam! Waiting outside the vaccination centre for ds1. He has to wait 15 mins after his vaccination.

Artdecolover · 20/08/2021 14:26

Blimey I'm warm! 😫
Just done some cleaning that was long overdue...
Waiting for a phone call from the gp re my mri results
Sometime after 3pm so I'll just have to sit on the sofa watching TV AND wait . Shame 😀

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 20/08/2021 23:30

FragrantlyScent · 21/08/2021 12:39

SOTD yesterday was Dior Fahrenheit. Was very busy, but went to the library and borrowed Perfumes: The Guide, by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez, and another perfume book that I've forgotten the name of and am too tired to go and look up. Excited to get started, though.

No SOTD as yet, will choose later.

TF Lost Cherry looks amazing One.

In other news, I also had the doctor phoning me yesterday. The similarities continue...

FragrantlyScent · 21/08/2021 12:47

Not tried Bois d'Orange, but Roger et Gallet is a really good quality, affordable brand. I love their Jean Marie Farina cologne. Smells luxurious, but doesn't last very long (in keeping with other colognes, expensive or not) Good luck for your second interview, @madamceladon. Smile

madamceladon · 21/08/2021 13:57

@FragrantlyScent
I want to try the farina from R&G, it's their classic original one isn't it from 19thc, good to hear a recommendation. I found the Bois d'orange was a little stronger than some of their others.

That Perfume Turin / Sanchez book is so funny! Some incredibly sharp and clever one liners.

Sadly the Dr didn't phone...their error I was sent the appt text but wasn't on the list... So getting a call next Thursday Allegedly
Artdecolover · 21/08/2021 14:10

Sotd 4160 Shazam!

I'm very fed up atm. I'm going to ask the er for some referrals to rheumatology and ti the fracture clinic (old injury)

So let's see what they say!

FragrantlyScent · 21/08/2021 15:09

Seem to be lots of admin errors at my surgery atm too. The Dr was supposed to ring me on tuesday, but didn't. It took me going to the surgery to complain for the Dr to phone yesterday. Have to go in to seen them next week, but now they don't have their diary set up so apparently a secretary will phone me to arrange.Hmm The drs themselves are very good, though, which is what matters, I suppose.

Hope you get your referrals and some answers quickly, @Artdecolover. Waiting for results and Drs appointments can be so frustrating sometimes.
I was referred to the hospital about three or four months ago and still haven't heard anything, so will probably have to chase them up, which will be fun.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/08/2021 21:27

SOTD LADR for a murky autumnal day.

Lotsofpots · 22/08/2021 14:05

I still can't smell properly so haven't really been thinking much about perfume. Wore 4160 WIDOMH pretty much all last week as I was on holiday, so it felt appropriate. I can smell sweet things more than anything else, so could enjoy it, albeit a diluted version of it.

Artdecolover · 22/08/2021 15:03

Sorry your smell hasn't returned @Lotsofpots :(

Sotd 4160 tarts knicker drawer

I am being very lazy today and spending most of the day reading.

FragrantlyScent · 22/08/2021 23:46

No SOTD as I've been testing out pp order. Some are more realistic than others. Some are absolutely amazing! Will update tomorrow when I've tested them all. As an aside, whoever said the rollerball things hurt (sorry, I can't remember who) was right! Plus, two of my rollers have so far got stuck and refused to turn. Most of the smells are great though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/08/2021 00:25

SOTD NRFH.

NotMyCat · 23/08/2021 13:03

SOTD Byredo gypsy water

It was me :) The rollerballs scratch my skin so I get the smallest spray now which is 13ml (odd size really) Sotd 4160 SSOTPE
FragrantlyScent · 23/08/2021 22:03

The Perfume Parlour rollerballs are a nightmare! They hurt and constantly get stuck, so no oil comes out. How is the longevity on the sprays @Artdecolover. Will almost definitely get the spray next time. I only ordered the roller as they were the cheapest for a sample and I didn't want to spend on something I may not have liked. The oils have great longevity but project quite poorly.

Overall, I loved 6 pp samples, liked 1 and disliked 3. So, out of 10 samples, I think that is quite impressive. Most were realistic, but I think the main differences lie in the top notes, they don't quite get those right. Also, because mine were oil samples, they didn't quite have the same 'effervescence' of the original spray perfumes. They smelled compressed, if that makes sense.

What I ordered:

MM, By the Fireplace: Probably 95% similar to the original, imo. It's maybe a bit less sweet and slightly less smooth, but very close, and very wearable.

YSL, Opium: Weird opening, but once it settles almost spot on for the original pre-reformulation. Quite an achievement for such a complex perfume. Beautiful incense, spices and balsams shot through with warmth and orange.

FM, Musc Ravaguer: Gingerbread, milky notes, quite soft. Tiniest amount of musk. Horribly harsh note comes through a few minutes in, something quite sharp and off-putting. Dislike. Not smelled the original so cannot compare.

Guerlain, Mitsouko: Amazing. Peach and citrus opening, then soft syrupy middle. Powdery spice and incense base. A soft, warm, golden fragrance; wonderfully blended and definitely complex.

Guerlain, Samsara: Extremely remote relationship to the original imo, but still nice all the same. Laundry detergent opening (ylang-ylang?). HUGE jasmine middle, augmented by a medicinal anise note, and only slightly tempered by the peach. Sweet, sort of soapy base. Great, I think, for when you want to smell fresh all day, but not the Samsara I know.

Hermes, Ambre Narguile: Cinnamon, apples and plums. Sweet woods come through, but not especially ambery. Really cosy and autumnal though, smells like apple pie!

Estée Lauder, Knowing: Green rose opening. More rose in the mid notes, coupled with woods, and dark fruits (plum?) Deep and complex. Dry down is extremely similar to Clinique Aromatics Elixir. Am embarrassed to admit I haven't smelled the original, even though I was sure I had. Must rectify this immediately, especially if it's as good as the pp dupe.

Guerlain, Double Vanille: Smells like cheap air freshener mixed with lynx. Synthetic and flat vanilla, with a damp wood base (cardboard accord?). Not impressed.

Tom Ford, Amber Absolute: Smells like Ambre Sultan with extra frankincense. Maybe slightly more angular. Rich and deep, but dries down powdery and soft. Not smelled original, so cannot compare.

Cartier, Le Baiser du Dragon: Really horrible opening, like rotting leaves. Almond and cut grass middle, but very sheer. Soapy, synthetic vanilla dry down that made me nauseous.

P. S. Sorry for the long post (again!) Once I began, I just couldn't stop writing, but this has really helped to clarify my thoughts on the merits of each dupe. Blush

I find the 13ml sprays excellent tbh. And family cheap.

They do last longer I think being oil based?

Glad you liked mmm btf and opium dupes!
EL knowing is one of my favourites for winter and I have a vintage bottle so never tried the dupe.

I remember getting the KL sun moon stars dupe and being utterly baffled - NOTHING like it!! At all!!

Sotn 4160 Shazam!

FragrantlyScent · 23/08/2021 22:34

Thank you, Artdeco. Smile Will order the sprays when my sample oils finish. I was so pleased to find a dupe for the old Opium, which was one of my favourite fragrances. Btf very cosy and comforting, a new staple. Will have to test the real EL Knowing next time I'm in a dept store, it smells so wonderfully put together, and the dry down being similar to aromatics elixir surprised me. Aromatics is my special occasion perfume! 😍

SOTE Guerlain, Mitsouko.

Artdecolover · 23/08/2021 22:44

I would say the original is not like aromatics elixir tbh but it's beautiful 😍

NotMyCat · 23/08/2021 22:47

I have a few sprays from PP that I love
Dupes of olympea, acqua di parma colonia, nivea, rose of no mans land

Showered so SOTD is now clean reserve skin which is my skin but better. Salt and vanilla
