Autumn looks

Now the weather has gone grey it's got me thinking about my autumn winter wardrobe. Last year I spent pretty much most of it in PJ's so want to make more effort this year!!
What kind of looks do you think will be in x and what are you going to invest in x

My favourite fashion season Smile

Dresses & skirts with tights
Woolly jumpers
Boots

Boood · 31/07/2021 14:40

I’ve just started thinking about this as well. I fancy a pair of floppy wide-leg trousers in a soft, wool-type fabric. Not actual wool though, too scratchy.
I’m also going to need a couple of pairs of jeans as I’m finally admitting skinnies are done. Although I’m keeping them for when it’s cold enough for boots.
Also I’m going to a big party in October- first post-covid get-together with a big group of friends- and that seems like a good reason for a new outfit.

PeacheyPeach · 31/07/2021 17:24

@broood I also like the idea of the wide leg wool jogger style pants but wondered what I can wear on my feet without looking slightly mad!!

Ooo a nice evening outfit wonder what you will wear!?

Love the sound of those trousers @Boood

I imagine I’ll be in lots of sweats still. With a nice trench or woolen coat and track sole boots if they’re still acceptable. Leather/faux leather trousers have been a staple for me in recent years and I will be reprising them. Midi and maxi dresses with knee high boots too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2021 18:08

Autumn is my favourite.

No idea what will be 'in' but I'm looking forward to wearing:
Checked pencil skirt
Pink trench
Pink leather biker
Black silk shirt
Leather pencil skirt and mini skirt
Grey animal print shirt
All the ankle boots
fishnets and lace tights

I'm on the lookout for:
New animal print midi dress or skirt
G ood black tops
Grey flannel trousers
A cropped grey jacket
Some sort of black wrap top

I’m planning to wear the trousers with trainers, although thinking about it I’m not sure what tops that would work with- my original idea was to team them with blouses and I don’t know if trainers would work with that.

I am very fond of a jumpsuit for “out out” evenings, but I’ve already got several so not sure I can justify another. I might be virtuous and wear one of the existing ones instead of going new.

MargosKaftan · 31/07/2021 21:34

Signing in for AW21 ideas, last winter was a blur/all about survival. Interested in what fashionable types are wearing this winter.

I donr feel like I bought much last year so AW wardrobe feels dated /in need of replacement items.

PersonaNonGarter · 01/08/2021 02:35

I think the loose blazer is definitely going to be key. Maybe with matching trousers maybe not.

I am usually really excited about the autumn stock coming in but this year it seems like fashion hasn’t moved that much. Maybe the cottagecore prairie dress will get an autumn styling (but I think I probably won’t race to get one).

Floisme · 01/08/2021 11:46

My favourite season too. But I think my main task this autumn is to work out new ways of wearing some of my smarter office clothes. They went unworn last autumn / winter because it felt too weird, but this time around I want to figure out how to do it even if I never go back to my office (as is looking increasingly likely).

So my plan (and feel free to remind me when I stray) is to only buy something new if it'll dress down something smart that I've got already.

The main things on my list are:
A chunky men's (or mannish looking) cardigan. I bought one from Uniqlo one last year and I'm still apologising to everyone I recommended it to because it turned out to be shit. This time I'm going to spend more.
A hoody (or maybe two) ideally in a distinctive colour because that's my second aim - wear more colour.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/08/2021 11:52

Love autumn/winter clothes! I’m not sure if I will be in work or not, but last year I bought some really lovely knits and cardigans which I am looking forward to wearing again.

I just bought a big long duvet puffer coat from Monki, and also a boyfriend type grey alpaca cardigan from Arket.

My favourite A/W outfit is leather mini skirt, crew neck jumper, 100 denier opaque tights, and DM monkey boots. Last year my leather skirts went unworn as we were pretty much in lockdown here from mid August and they felt a bit extra for the kitchen table!

ShrikeAttack · 01/08/2021 12:11

@Floisme, have you seen the heirloom cardigan at navygrey? Might be just what you're looking for, I've got it in navy and ecru and it's brilliant. Fantastic quality too.

Floisme · 01/08/2021 12:51

Thank you Shrike, yes that's the kind of thing I'm after even though I'd have to save up!

Community Clothing also had one last year - it's out of stock at the moment but I'm watching to see if they do it again.

Hesperatum · 01/08/2021 13:27

Ideas for my 70th. I like classic with a twist. Definitely not a twin set and pearls type. 5’4 and 9.5 stone.Ideas on day to day wear much appreciated.

JMAngel1 · 01/08/2021 13:36

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
Love your list.
I'm a bit lost - usually love A/W planning but I don't even know what silhouette or colours are in.
Tbh, I know I won't deviate from my signature wool wrap midi coats. Would like to maybe get a warm midi wrap skirt in a knitted fabric and to definitely wear knee high boots that I always seem to chicken out of wearing. Maybe if I got a black pair it would ease me in gently (I have a tan leather pair and burgundy suede pair that always seem a bit too "look at me" Grin)
I would like to get some knitwear in my newly found favourite "suits me" colour - a dusky petrol blue. Would be great if that was "in" as it's quite an elusive shade to track down.

A quick look at Zara website suggests red and emerald green will be in?

JMAngel1 · 01/08/2021 13:44

Looks like everything is in - nothing groundbreaking.
I think that's my problem - getting a bit jaded as,at almost 50, I feel like I've seen every "trend" before (at least 3 times Grin)

I'm not going to buy much this year as I have plenty of nice things but a Navy Grey jumper or cardigan is on my list but a new pair of R&B backless loafers. I may buy another pair of corduroy trousers.

PeacheyPeach · 01/08/2021 15:35

I have a lovely black leather mini skirt which I never wore because of lockdown I must wear that with a nice knit this year

DuchessofSuffolk · 01/08/2021 17:31

My thigh highs, leather joggers, leather trousers, checked oversized shirt, cosy jumpers, roll necks, ankle boots, leather jacket

Much prefer autumn clothes over summer ones.

ShrikeAttack · 01/08/2021 17:58

I really rate navygrey @Sooverthemill, I've got six pieces of knitwear from them and every one is just what I was looking for. Not cheap but the quality is definitely there.

I'm after some new loafers too, might go for the R&B tan snaffle, although I'm weighing up a pair of Gucci ones instead.

Autumn-wise I'm really looking forward to wearing a pair of Chloè boots I bagged in Matches sale and a MaxMara coat I got last year that barely got an outing for obvious reasons. Denim and knitted midis, I've got some great new knits, flares, and I'm hankering after a nice tank-top too.

Oh and maybe the R&B clogs with chunky chain detail.

I was driving over the tops on my way home yesterday and the hills were resplendent with purple heather which always signals that Autumn's on the way!

Thanks.

I like the sound of a wrap midi skirt.

I bought some brilliant knee length boots that I've had hardly had chance to wear, so looking forward to finding things to go with them. These won't be to everyone's taste, but I really like them.

ShrikeAttack · 01/08/2021 19:01

I like those boits Remus , they have a pleasingly 70s vibe about them.

Sooverthemill · 01/08/2021 20:03

I'm after some new loafers too, might go for the R&B tan snaffle, although I'm weighing up a pair of Gucci ones instead.
As I can’t afford Gucci I’m having the R&B tan ones but backless as I get so much use out of them.
I really like navy grey and am looking forward to finally buying one!

ShrikeAttack · 01/08/2021 21:11

R&B do a style similar to the Gucci with the collapsible back @Sooverthemill, versatile!

I do love a backless loafer, I wear mine loads, they just have a lovely casualness about them.

WasThisSexist · 02/08/2021 05:23

I will have to lose the lockdown weight gain to fit back into my autumn wardrobe, but when I do I am looking forward to wearing a leather pencil skirt, faux leather trousers, tweed blazers and lots of autumnal knitwear in shades like brown and rust. Autumn is my favourite season too.

I am also a fan of knee high boots and have some lovely brown riding boots - but are these still wearable? A lot of my stuff feels like it has now been packed away long enough to have gone out of fashion!

WasThisSexist · 02/08/2021 05:24

Ooh, just rtft and see we are talking knee high boots!
