Rimmel

VFM 9/10
SWOOSH EFFECT 10/10
FINISH (if correclty applied) 10/10
STAYING POWER 10/10 unless I cry laughing or get smoke in my eyes, although very unlikely now due to smoking bans and the fact that I never go anywhere anymore
COLOURS 5/10

ahundredtimes · 27/11/2007 19:25

[leans against beauty counter bar in pathetic attempt to appear sophisticated]

So how do you put it on? On the rim, no, just below yes? Is it difficult to apply? Why is it better than a pencil?

southeastastra · 27/11/2007 19:30

pull your eye taut and just swosh it on as near to the lashes as you can. so much easier than a pencil. the no7 stuff is great as the brush doesn't get too loaded and you can just apply more if not enough.

Whooosh · 27/11/2007 19:30

Am with SEA on Boots-but Rumple makes a very good point re pwder on wet eyeliner brush for more subtle effect.....

Lancome one
value ofr money 2/10
swooshability(application)5/10
finish 6/10-if applied with sober skill
durability 9/10
range of colours-no idea...

OliviaMumsnet · 27/11/2007 19:31

Isn't swooshability in the hands of the applicant rather than the manufacturer??
I can never do this without looking like I applied my make up three sheets to the wind.

brimfull · 27/11/2007 19:33

olivia-did they not put it on you for your glam photoshoot with Woman&Home

ahundredtimes · 27/11/2007 19:34

Oh really gg. Here lean against the counter with me. So do we think you have to be really very good at make up to do this then? I'm worried. Though southeastra made it sound so easy, didn't she?

Is the movement quick and swoosh then, rather than painstakingly slow and perfect?

santascRUMPELedsuit · 27/11/2007 19:38

best way to apply it -

Use a very small hand held mirror.
Lean your elbow on something (to begin with until you get better at it)
Close your eye
Begin in the inner corner of the eyelid and slowly sweep it across to the outer eyelid
It is tricky and takes practice
You can apply more coats if necessary - to make a thicker line, or flip out the corners like Amy

I wouldn't recommend pulling your eyelid taught (unless it is quite wrinkly and you need to lift it up) as dragging the skin near the eys creates wrinkles longterm.

brimfull · 27/11/2007 19:39

I think we may have to factor in wrinkles in this survey.

Tis soooo much easier for young/smooth eyelidded ones

Could cod cope with age as a variable?

santascRUMPELedsuit · 27/11/2007 19:39

Practice practice practice - buy a cheap one first though!

brimfull · 27/11/2007 19:40

my movement will no doubt be jittery and flustered rather than swishy and smooth

OliviaMumsnet · 27/11/2007 19:40

Ggirl - they used pencil not liquid but still managed to do the swoosh.

brimfull · 27/11/2007 19:41

oooh interesting, did you get a gander at the brand?

southeastastra · 27/11/2007 19:42

i find the quicker the better. though have used it for years. you can put eyeshadow over the top to soften it a bit if it looks too harsh.

brimfull · 27/11/2007 19:43

you all looked fab darling

foxinsocks · 27/11/2007 19:43

it is impossible to apply

I meant to post on this earlier - I cannot understand how any of you make it work

I end up looking like a 2 year old has been let loose with a biro under my eyes.

The problem is that it's really unforgiving. So if you don't do the line straight, it's so easy to see that you've made a screw up and because it's harder to remove than pencil, by the time you've scrubbed it off, you're already starting to resemble a panda.

I tried once about 6 months ago - never again! Unless they've moved on since then and are a bit more forgiving.

ahundredtimes · 27/11/2007 19:44

Crikey they were good Olivia.

Right. Ok. I think I might have to wait for the outcome to this one though, and then go and get it and practice. {wonders if too old to be practising with make-up]

I shall watch and learn.

morningpaper · 27/11/2007 19:45

Can we have pictures on profiles please

I want to see photographic evidence of technique

ahundredtimes · 27/11/2007 19:45

Perhaps you had a bad one Foxy? [slaps on back] Come and stand by the counter with me.

brimfull · 27/11/2007 19:45

fox-I only put eyeliner on the top lid, that's what I'm planning with my liquid eyeliner fest.
May go and try it in a mo.

Shall look fab ...watching Property Ladder

morningpaper · 27/11/2007 19:47

And I want a link to Olivia's photoshoot

And more details pls

crunchie · 27/11/2007 19:47

fox it doesn't go UNDER The eyes at all. It is top lid only

southeastastra · 27/11/2007 19:47

this link is what i do more of less

ahundredtimes · 27/11/2007 19:48

Sorry to go on about this - but is it supposed to look quite theatrical and obvious, yes? Not subtle and smudgy like a pencil?
