Those headbands are dreadful. When Sophie wore one to Philip’s funeral, I thought she had missed a chance to wear a stunning veiled hat!

I think the eldest looks so like his mother it’s uncanny, the absolute spit of her.

I also wonder if Silvia and Sofia are that alike really - one gets thrown off by the dark hair but look at these photos instead.

Prince Michael of Kent's don Freddie Windsor is so like his male relations from the late 19th / early 20th centuries.

I loved the Swedish Royals summer holiday photo and how they must have coordinated everyone's clothes in advance - women/girls in summer dresses and men/boys in jeans or chinos and open necked shirts.

It looked to me as though Sophia was attempting a modern take on a Folk costume. The dress with its painted or printed flowers looked like folk art (a modern take on traditional kurbits painting) and the headband a modern version of the traditional headscarf). Not really sold on the headband but I think it was part of her theme

Bang on cue for our thread, comes today’s Kindle Deal, The Henry “Chips” Channon Diaries 1918 - 1938.
Chips was at the centre of the set that grew around the Prince of Wales, and he knew the Yorks too, in fact Chips knew everyone who was anyone!
Gossipy and bitchy, the Diaries are a glimpse of a long gone era, for only 99 pence.

Ooh, a Chips Channon book! Should be interesting.

I gave the hard copy of this book, and it is a weighty tome so I highly recommend the Kindle version !
I also really recommend this fascinating book, especially for the descriptions of the lavish jewels worn by everyone ( including the author !) . Another era ….

I really liked Sofia’s dress - it looked like a Vilshenko dress (CPs Mary and Mette-Marit like her dresses) but it’s actually by Etro - they are normally more Luxe Boho than folksy. Max wears Etro quite a bit, though she goes for their louder looks (of course!).

Netflix have released photos of The Crown's new Charles and Diana. Not sure Dominic West is quite right for the role but I suppose he has experience of being unfaithful to his wife! Elizabeth Debicki looks the part though - I've always thought she resembled Diana.
