Do you wear bikini on beach

We are going on holiday in a couple of weeks. Staycation like nearly everyone else this year. Just wondering if it's a hot day and we go to the beach would you wear a bikini or a one piece or a bikini top and shorts? Don't want to look like the creepy old guy wearing his Speedos on the beach and have lots of British people laughing at me 🤣

I'd wear a bikini. You only live once. Just pick one you're comfortable in.

DramaAlpaca · 23/07/2021 00:49

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

Awrite · 23/07/2021 00:52

Yes, bikini. Sometimes with shorts over (short shorts) for swimming. I'm slim so I don't know why this makes me less self conscious but it does.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 23/07/2021 00:59

whatever you feel comfortable in.
to hell with what others think!

I only have a very old maternity swim suit so I wear shorts & vest on top of it out of the water.
I haven't swam in yonks and it's unlikely I'll go back to regular swimming any time soon (what with having to book stuff in advance) so don't see the point of investing in a new swimming cosy.
for 1 week in every few years it's fine. I couldn't care less what anyone thought

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 23/07/2021 01:24

If I was on holiday and just sunbathing I would. I find them too cold and impractical for actual sea swimming.

I live near the sea and teach at the local secondary so tend to wear surf leggings/shorts and a rash vest for actually messing about in the water it means I can stay in the water longer and is easier to get on and off than a wetsuit. Also the idea of any of my students seeing me in a bikini would be awful.

StarlightLady · 23/07/2021 02:31

Bikini in the sea. When on the beach, usually half a bikini!

Justa47 · 23/07/2021 05:37

@StarlightLady

Exactly or nothing when abroad.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 23/07/2021 06:08

I never understood laughing at the old guy in Speedos thing. For one thing, they are invariably locals to which the beach is their second home.

I also think blokes in shorts look no better. If fact I think the shape of shirts emphasises both wobbly belly and skinny legs and gives them stupid tan lines.

I think the same about bikini’s and swimsuits though. I always think people look less in the flesh rather than more material that just draws your eye to the bulk.

CurlsLDN · 23/07/2021 06:11

I live near the beach in the UK and go at least weekly, plenty of women wear bikinis on UK beaches, also lots of one pieces and combinations with shorts over etc.

So don't worry, you won't be the only one whatever you pick

LizziesTwin · 23/07/2021 06:13

Definitely a bikini woman. If I’m kayaking or jetskiing I usually wear a wet suit on top. Last week we swam for 25 mins without a wetsuit, it was lovely. People of all shapes and sizes at UK beaches, there’s bound to be someone bigger & someone smaller than you enjoying being outside.

lifehappened · 23/07/2021 06:14

One piece for me but only coz my post baby stomach ain't going anywhere. I wouldn't think anyone in a bikini was weird

coogee · 23/07/2021 07:14

Yes, if there are people about. No, if there aren’t.

LemonRoses · 23/07/2021 07:19

I wear a costume because I go to the beach to swim.

We went yesterday and the beach was not st all crowded but there were people in
Sports costumes
Glitzy costumes
Bikinis that covered most bits
Bikinis that covered very little
Wetsuits
Swim shorts
Trunks
Rash vest and shorts
Fully clothed
Partly clothed

It really is up to you entirely.

Azilliondegrees · 23/07/2021 07:22

Hell no! But only because I don’t like my post-baby body very much. Generally slim but the tum-wobble is real. And I’m very fair skinned, so not only is it better for me to be covered, but I have hang ups about acres of wobbly white skin.

I have recently been on a beach holiday (U.K.) though and there are a lot of very body confident people in bikinis of all shapes and sizes, so if you are happy wearing your bikini I would say you don’t have anything to worry about.

Azilliondegrees · 23/07/2021 07:22

*that’s people of all shapes and sizes in a vast array of different bikinis. You are genuinely unlikely to particularly stand out

Ughmaybenot · 23/07/2021 07:26

Always a bikini unless I’m surfing and then I whack a rash vest on. Not surfing this year as pregnant and my centre of balance is out of whack so I’ve just treated myself to a new bikini Grin
I never really notice what anyone else on the beach is wearing. I think we can all be inclined to labour under the misapprehension that people care about what we’re doing far more than the reality… which is that they really don’t give a shit.

MistyFrequencies · 23/07/2021 07:32

Yeah I do. I usually have high waisted bottoms and a top kind of 50s/60s style. I'm pretty fat (like size 20ish) but I find that style the most comfortable and flattering.

ShadowInVain · 23/07/2021 07:40

A tankini, with a skirt over it - take skirt off on the beach - sorted Smile .

PeacheyPeach · 23/07/2021 08:00

Thanks everyone 😊 I will bite the bullet and take my bekini. Think I will pop a oversized linen shirt on if I'm walking around though ( taking kids the toilet etc) just dont think I'm confident enough to expose this amount of flesh yet!!

Glad I saw this as packing to go away this morning. I always wear bikinis abroad - but for some reason felt weird about wearing one in Wales so brought a one piece. Will throw in the bikini just in case.

Jackgrealishscurtains · 23/07/2021 09:12

I stopped wearing a bikini a few years ago. Partly because I don't want my tummy on show, but largely because we go to Devon and Cornwall a lot doing bodyboarding etc and my bikini bottoms kept falling down! I don't know how those gorgeous young girls who surf in bikinis in Hawaii keep them on, top and bottom!

StarlightLady · 23/07/2021 10:14

@Justa47 - We have a long way to go to get equality with men on the beaches. I always go topless where l can, that is quiet beaches or even on busy beaches, but in the latter case, it has to be where I’m not the only one.

coogee · 23/07/2021 10:32

We have a long way to go to get equality with men on the beaches.

In what way?

coogee · 23/07/2021 10:42

Actually, ignore that.

Hoppinggreen · 23/07/2021 10:45

Not in The UK I don’t but we have a property in Spain and I do there
Most women wear bikinis there with no age or size restrictions and it’s the people in full cossies that are the odd ones out
