Is olaplex worth the hype?

What products have you tried and what difference did it actually make

fine oily hair here a d did nothing for me, felt heavy

Chimboo · 22/07/2021 18:17

I used the number 3 pre-treatment thing and the shampoo and conditioner for about five months. Ended up with a really inflamed itchy, flakey scalp and broken hair 😫 The stuff hairdressers put on you in the salon has never caused problems but the home bits and bobs…oh dear. Took six months for my scalp to recover and my hair still feels thin.

ArabeI · 22/07/2021 18:19

The oil - no. 7. I like this a lot and I've repurchased. I use on wet or dry hair. Though I think I'm going to buy a very good argan oil to compare.

The mask, No. 8 - is fine but I like elasticizer more (I know they're not quite the same sort of thing). I don't know if I'll purchase again.

Thatswhatmamasaid · 22/07/2021 19:30

I love it! I find that using 0 and 3 together give the best results.

brushlaptop · 22/07/2021 19:59

It 100% was worth the hype for me!

Pingued · 22/07/2021 20:23

3 is for me. I got a little set of mini ones to try. The shampoo and conditioner is nice but too pricy.

Jackgrealishscurtains · 22/07/2021 22:28

I use 3 and really rate it. I bleach my own hair at home and use it a couple of days before I bleach as a 'preventative' thing, and then I use it every so often as a treatment. It definitely makes my hair feel stronger and nicer.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 22/07/2021 22:35

I rate it but I bleach my hair. I think people use it who don't bleach and then it doesn't do anything for them.

MayEye · 22/07/2021 22:42

I use no 8 mask - I leave in on for ages rather than the 10 mins suggested wrapping my hair in a towel and it leaves my hair so soft. I started in the last lockdown after using a few home dyes and wrecked my hair and my hairdresser commented on the condition of hair so it must have done something.

Blessex · 22/07/2021 22:44

Does absolutely nothing for me. There are so many other products that are better. All marketing ‘bond’ hype!

mog27 · 22/07/2021 22:44

I rate it, I use 0&3 and have bleached hair. I think you have to be careful where you buy from because there's so many fakes going around. If you do buy look on the olaplex website for official stockists, I usually buy from look fantastic. Avoid Amazon and eBay like the plague!!

DrNo007 · 22/07/2021 22:59

I used two olaplex formulations. Not only did they not do anything good to my hair but they made my scalp dry and itchy. This lasted for weeks even though I only used the products once. I ended up returning the products with a letter of complaint and got a full refund, which I was glad about as they cost a fortune. I was inspired to complain after reading other women’s similar experiences on online forums.

DoylyCarte · 22/07/2021 23:11

I haven’t noticed any difference (not any that can’t be achieved more effectively by other products) using the at home treatments 3,4,5 & 6 but I have seen a big improvement in condition from when they started using it in salon added to both the colour/bleach application and with an additional 10min treatment during the wash.

I wouldn’t repurchase any of the home ones, but have it in salon every time. If just having a cut or blow dry then I’ll have an olaplex treatment at the same time.

lobster12 · 22/07/2021 23:17

My hairdresser uses it when she highlights my hair and omg it's brilliant, my hair doesn't feel like it's been bleached at all. I wish I could afford to buy the shampoo and conditioner.

MoltonSilver · 22/07/2021 23:51

3 did nothing for me. I'm curious about trying it with 0 but I'm reluctant in case it's just throwing good money after bad.

That’s likely because the shampoo is sulphate free. Doesn’t clean your hair and scalp as efficiently as a sulphate shampoo.

Hepzibar · 23/07/2021 08:25

I rate it, best I have ever used. Transformed my heat and bleach damaged hair.
Initially used 3 and 6 after having 1and 2 at hairdressers. I added 0, saturate the worst bits leave and then add 3.
I mix 7(oil) with 6 (the leave in conditioner).
Because of the brilliant results with the above I started to use 4&5 the shampoo and conditioner.
I wouldn't use anything else - and I've tried loads. Well worth the money and you only need a small amount of all of them, so goes a long way.

CommanderBurnham · 23/07/2021 08:36

I love it. But you'll only notice the difference if you have damaged hair. It's not for smoothing/styling. It's for repairing split bleached hair or hair that has heat damage. The 3 x Bleached ends of my long hair ( bra strap length) is as healthy as the regrowth at the top of my head. I use no 3.

livingoffcoffee · 23/07/2021 09:08

@ZaraW

It works for me. My hairdresser noticed less damage with Olaplex 3 and Olaplex 6 definitely keeps frizzy hair under control. I love it.
Me too. My hairdresser was really impressed with the difference in my hair when I started using it
Jackgrealishscurtains · 23/07/2021 09:09

Yes, Look Fantastic is the best place to get Olaplex from and it's always on some kind of offer as well.

I love Amazon and Ebay for certain hair products but cheap Olaplex from there is going to be fake!

bossybloss · 23/07/2021 19:38

The owner of the salon said my hair was in better condition...my usual stylist said she didn’t think it made any difference!

penguinwithasuitcase · 23/07/2021 20:02

Made a huge difference to my fine, curly hair.

It feels stronger and the curl hangs far better. Breakage is minimal and it's got more volume.

People who say it did nothing for them don't have hair that needs what Olaplex does.

Reallyreallyborednow · 23/07/2021 20:23

Dd has all of them except the hairdresser one (number 3?)

Uses them once a week. She says they make a big difference. However she has fine slightly curly hair- and swims nearly every day so it breaks very easily.

Do you mind telling me which olaplex you use? Your hair sounds similar to mine. Thank you.
