A fascinating thread about knickers and bras

I need some new everyday knickers and bras, and I’m stuck for where to look.

I’ve been underwhelmed with the last few times I’ve bought bras from M&S - I don’t find them comfortable, really.

I tried Stripe and Stare for knickers, and they were really comfy and funky designs, but the lace went grey very quickly.

Where do you go for nice everyday stuff? Neutral bras and pretty pants, rather than sexy lingerie?

All recommendations welcome!

I was surprised about the comments on the matching knickers from Bravissimo in this thread , being too brief.

I prefer a Brazilian cut but the matching Panache knix with the Tango are too substantial for me, l need to size down.

Divebar2021 · 24/07/2021 10:13

@StarlightLady

With Bravissimo I was talking about their own range. Other brands like Freya or Fantasie have a bit more choice on the knicker shape but are more expensive.

woodhill · 24/07/2021 10:21

My go to knickers are the high waisted cotton shirts from M&S sometimes their Brazilian cotton ones but I find the crotch sometimes moves and is uncomfortable

The quality is not as good as before and some holes have developed

StarlightLady · 24/07/2021 19:36

@Divebar2021 - Big apologies from me, l misread you original post. 💐

Divebar2021 · 24/07/2021 21:58

@StarlightLady

No apology necessary…. We’re just talking about knickers…. It’s not AIBU Wink

StarlightLady · 25/07/2021 09:49

@Divebar2021 - that’s kind. I think you might be pleasantly surprised with the Panache Tango and Envy matching knix, particularly if the bras suit. Although not cheap. There are lots of lovely colours.

Given the warm weather though, knickers have been an optional extra, confined to my top drawer for the past week or so 🤫. No requirement with long sun dresses!

peaceanddove · 25/07/2021 10:32

The quality of M&S multi-pack knickers has dropped off a cliff recently. Bought my DDs a new pack each at Easter and the elastic is already shredding.

AnnieJ1985 · 25/07/2021 10:47

@StarlightLady jumping in to ask, do you know if the panache tango come in a smooth cup any more? I got one in a purpley colour years ago in a smooth cup, loved the fit so bought 2 more which haf the embroidery(?) pattern. I haven't seen a smooth one since. Would love a similar fit in a t-shirt bra. I have since gained and lost a lot of weight, and just rediscovered the old purple bra in the back of a drawer, and it fits lovely again.

I need to refresh my bra and pants drawer!

BeaLola · 25/07/2021 10:57

Fantasie for bras , some Freya .

Pants - Whole different ball game, used to wear a lot of the M&S hi leg or full brief – but recently quality has been absolutely awful and I'm still looking for a really good alternative

StarlightLady · 25/07/2021 22:37

@AnnieJ1985 - I’m afraid l don’t recall the smooth version. I do have a couple of Tango plunge bras though which had minimal fabric in the centre and they stoped those.

These days, l opt for something which holds me well, and if the Tango embroidery shows through, so be it.

Fatface for knickers

Bralettes from Sainsbury’s - but I’m flat chested so wouldn’t be for everyone.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/07/2021 00:26

I love the Hollister-Gilly Hicks bralettes, but I'm also small of boob.

NotMyCat · 26/07/2021 01:19

Elomi for bras
M&S sumptuously soft or whatever daft name knickers. The full brief ones. Comfy, stretchy, lace on the bum and high waist

seasiderdream · 26/07/2021 07:11

@AnnieSnap I love the look of those amazon ones, thanks for sharing!

sylbunny · 26/07/2021 07:17

Another fan of sluggish here. I wear the Tai briefs and then in the summer I have the jockeys as chub rub shorts. I've worn the zero feel bras too in the past but my boobs are too big for them now.

LunaNorth · 26/07/2021 08:33

Right, my Amazon ones arrived. They’re very sturdy and comfy (win!) with a nice wide gusset (fgs) and lovely colours.

They don’t particularly flatter me, as the waistband cuts right across my hips and creates a muffin top, but they’re fine for under jeans.

Thanks for the update. I wish the photos on website showed a woman with actual hips so you can tell how the are going to fit. I was looking at the high waisted ones and she looks like she's stood in a bucket!

GoingGently · 26/07/2021 10:49

Following because I'm looking for brilliant quality cotton knickers!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 26/07/2021 11:08

I buy the M&S packs of black or the mixed black and nude. Nothing fancy and dh hates them but comfy and wash well. I always get the cotton or the no show modal ones.

For a slightly fancier knicker I like the Brazilian high waisted. As they are a little bit cheeky but still nice full coverage so no muffin top or bulging over the waist band.

Dd loves underwear and her favourite every day pants are from
Victoria secret or pink and gilly hicks at hollister. Her bras are from victoria secret and she likes bralettea from pink or gilly hicks.

I hated Sainsburys pants. They got holes in within a couple of wears and the gusset (vom) was unnecessarily thin.

Changechangychange · 26/07/2021 11:10

Uniqlo for pants. I am a 32G so need Bravissimo for bras.

grownup2 · 26/07/2021 12:18

@AnnieSnap

The best everyday knickers I have found are Wirapa (Amazon). I’ve been wearing them for several years now. They never seem to age. They was and wear amazingly. I can’t remember how I came across them, because who looks at Amazon for knickers? I have recommended them to a couple of friends and they find them great too. Here’s a link. Bear in mind, there are several styles. ]]
And here are the high waisted version. www.amazon.co.uk/wirarpa-Womens-Knickers-Underwear-Panties/dp/B07C3KXCVN/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&crid=24L7M869X07IH&keywords=wirarpa+ladies+knickers+cotton+full+briefs+high+waisted+underwear&sprefix=wirarpa+ladies+k%2Caps%2C196&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1627298050&sr=8-5 I've recommended them before but as #AnnieSnap says, they just keep washing and wearing brilliantly. I kept my M&S ones at the back of the drawer but never wear them as they seem flimsy.
Thisismynewname123 · 26/07/2021 12:42

I get my basic knickers from Gap. Far and away the most comfortable. Definitely better than Next/M&S for bum coverage.
I get Fantasies bras from Figleaves (now on Simply Be) or Bravissimo.

They sell them in hipsters, midrise and highrise. I go for highrise because I find them more flattering.

Some successes!

High-leg knickers from Ella & Me are properly lovely. Really comfy and look good. Have yet to put through the wash, but early signs are promising.

Got some pretty bras and knickers from Bravissimo sale - a Freya set and a Gossard set. I was unsure of my size after some recent weight loss, but I followed the link upthread, had a measure and they do seem to fit.

Thank you for all contributions!

@LunaNorth I have been debating whether to give Ella and Me a try for ages - your review has given me the nudge to go for it! I'm right between 2 sizes so I've ordered one of each, hoping they're the holy grail of pants!
